ZackJones
I made it out to the range today and did some chronograph runs. For some reason the chronograph wasn't picking up every shot so I'll just post a summary. If anyone wants to see the specifics for any of the loads I'll gladly post it. All bullets were Blue Bullet 125g and all were loaded to 1.135 OAL. Accuracy test: They all hit the berm behind the chrono . I was just testing to see if they would make USPSA Production minor power factor. All rounds were shot using S&W M&P Pro 9mm with factory barrel. Red Dot (3.8g) Avg velocity: 1058 Std Dev: 8.2 Avg PF: 132 (I liked the feel of this load shooting a few rounds off hand after doing chronograph run) 800-X (4.5g) Avg velocity: 946 Std Dev: 25.2! Avg PF: 118 Not sure what was going on with this powder. Velocities ranged from 900 to 974. I guess my RCBS chargemaster did not dispense it very consistently. Bullseye (3.9g) Avg velocity: 1072 Std Dev: 11.8 Avg PF: 134 Titegroup (3.9g) Avg velocity: 1076 Std Dev: 18.2 Avg PF:

Maybe my chronograph is off. What kind of weather was this shot in? In my experience, coated bullets like those from Bayou, BBI, and Blue Bullet all require 0.2g-0,4g less powder to get the same PF as with plated bullets. The lube on those is definitely far lower friction than with plated, and even more so than jacketed. Edited June 23, 2014 by Laughingdog

What kind of weather was this shot in? Hot and muggy South Carolina weather. I was sweating just walking from the car to the bench. I'd say low 90's at least yesterday afternoon. ZackJones
Where's the e3 data? I didn't need to chrono that load. I know that one works But since you asked: 3.3g of e3 with a Bayou 124g bullet gave me an average velocity of 1080, Std Dev of 15.4, Avg PF of 133 I did several loads with Blue 125g and e3: 3.3g gave me average velocity of 1022, Std Dev of 13.7, Avg PF of 127 3.4g gave me average velocity of 1037, Std Dev of 19.1!, Avg PF of 129 3.5g gave me average velocity of 1052, Std Dev of 7.3, and Avg PF of 131 -- this is my new standard load for 9mm. OAL was 1.135, I think. It may have been 1.130. It's not listed in my logs .

My Lee auto disks don't have that ability. Edited June 24, 2014 by dave33
noylj
Re: 800X that is a very slow powder for use in light loads and the results probably have more to due with incomplete burning than any error from the ChargeMaster.
ZackJones
What powder measure are you using to fine tune your e3 loads per tenth. My Lee auto disks don't have that ability. I bought a used RCBS Chargemaster dispenser. You program in the charge weight and let it do it's thing. It's slow but given that I reload on a single stage press I do it in batches. I'll load up 50 cases and then go to the press and seat/crimp.
ZackJones
Re: 800X that is a very slow powder for use in light loads and the results probably have more to due with incomplete burning than any error from the ChargeMaster. That's a valid point but I used the load recommended on the IMR web site. I just double checked it and the only variance was the OAL. The web site calls for 1.125 and I used 1.135. I'll try to shorten up the next load and see how it goes. I have some 115g Boyou bullets so I'm thinking I'll try those with 800-X. That may give me a very light load for steel. noylj
A load in a manual is not a recommended load as much as it is a safe load.

Interestingly enough when chronoing both my XDM 5.25 and the wifes, last week, her's ran slower when using the Extreme 147 plated. Switched to Bayou 147's and her velocities came right in with mine. The Bayou's grouped closer also. Speer brass, Power Pistol 4.0 gr, 1.133 OAL, Win primers. Same for both bullets. Now I'm going to try Donnie's 160gr. IF I can find some load data! Any help there, please do. JD

Rokihsa
I have a ton of Bayous left and have my order in for 147 blues. I will be starting my .40 loads sometime next week for limited though. I plan on making the trip to Jacksonville (Gainsville) for the classifier match they are holding.
ZackJones
This 800x Powder just has me scratching my head. I think I'm going to take it to my brother and let him try it in .45 ACP. bellyrubber
here are my results from today with 800X. i loaded three different powder weights, each wt. had five different oals, each oal had five rds. for a total of 60 rds. i was shooting a xdm 9mm 4.5. with 124 fmjrn. 1st batch- 5.5gr.1.150oal, H1088,L1070,AV.VEL.1077,E.S.18.01,S.D.6.78,P.F.133. i liked this the best 1.140oal,H1139,L1040,AV.VEL.1087,E.S.98.41,S.D.35.25,P.F.134. this load all over the paper. 1.135/1.125oal.H's L's about the same. AV.VEL. within 50fps of each other. 1.135's P.F.136, 1.125's P.F.138. 2nd batch-5.2gr. 1.150 plain lousy. 1.140oal/1.1350oal,both ok loads. numbers were within 15 of each other all the way through. P.F. was 1 apart.128/127. 1.125oal,H.1091,L.1024,AV.VEL.1066,E.S.66.23,S.D.26.40,P.F.132. this load didn't have the best numbers but was the most accurate. 3rd.batch- 5.0gr. same oals. numbers wouldn't make power factor. all AV.VEL. were under 1000 fps.barely worked the slide. so there's my 1st outing with 800X. hope this info helps. ZackJones
So more powder and longer OAL seems to make the loads run better. I have 400 Bayou 115g's left and last night I loaded 200 of with 4.5g at 1.125. That's what has worked for me the best so far. it's subminor but it will work for Mrs. Jones and steel challenge. ZackJones
I have heard E3 is a clean, strong, super low recoil "wonder" in 9mm. I love e3. If I could find it I'd buy more of it. I have 5 pounds left and I'm saving that for special matches/events. I'm trying out other powders now to hold me over until I can get more e3.
