Here is another reference; http://www.ar15barrels.com/prod/operation.shtml Note the dwell time. This is the term for the time the projectile is still in the barrel past the gas port. Note the 0.0002 seconds (0.2ms) for 20" and 14.5" barrels. My assumptions gave 0.00015 seconds. Not too shabby for simplistic math! if there is one thing I've learned, is that even simple models can get you to the right answer quickly...
