ohsevenflhx
Why does the 9mm slide need a recoil bushing, and the 40 cal doesn't. I realize the recoil rod hole is larger in the 9mm, so you need the bushing, but why? Is it so the slides don't get mixed up at the factory? IronicTwitch
Good question. I've got the 9mm and wondered that. I've heard you can fit a 9mm barrel in the 40S&W but not the other way around, so I think there's more differences but I haven't heard a definitive answer. I know we've got some TS experts on here though!
SufferInSilence
I had a local guy in New Orleans make me a custom guide rod to accommodate a TS slide that got screwed up. I wonder if you could do some lathe work and make a guide rod from scratch that would do without the busing… I would really like to get that Harbor Freight mini lathe and chuck away at a few ideas…
ohsevenflhx
? no ideas?
jon49erfan
I thought you couldn't put a 40 barrel on a 9 slide because the breech face is smaller.
alma
That's what I heard. 40 to 9 works but there other way around is a no go.

True, but the original question was why does the 9mm need a recoil rod sleeve, and the 40 doesn't.
jon49erfan
That was a reply to the second poster, not the original post. I'll be sure to quote next time.
