So far I like the 135s, but I wanted to hear from those who have been down this road before I make a final decision and order a large number. Is there any benefit to going on up to the 147? What are the pros and cons between the two? I have not ordered any 147 yet. I'm trying to determine if it is worth it. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
v1911 Posted January 29, 2014 Share Posted January 29, 2014 (edited) I definitely use less powder (clays) when pushing 147gr (bayou) than when I was shooting 124gr (xtreme). There was a bit more snap with the lighter weight bullet. The 147gr felt like a softer push. Again, not much difference though and you may actually prefer a bit more snap. YMMV. The 147's will be softer/slower = some like it some don't. They cost more - and the savings in powder is eaten up by the higher cost of the heavier bullets. Advantage is personal feel. dave33 Posted January 29, 2014 Share Posted January 29, 2014 I just shot some bayou 135's yesterday, I have been shooting 147 gr lead up to that point. I'm switching over to coated lead and trying to decide on the exact one. The 135's have a tad more snap to them vs more of a push with the 147's but I honestly don't think it's enough to make any difference. They were both equally accurate. I shoot some falling plate matches so the extra mass of the 147's may help with that but I'm sure only slightly. The lower cost of the 135's may help me decide. emjei Posted May 6, 2015 Share Posted May 6, 2015 Bringing this thread from the death I tried some 135 grain Bayou today ( 3.1 TG making 950fps ) with a Shadow. ....... .... Taroman Posted May 12, 2015 Share Posted May 12, 2015 I tried both and settled on the BBI 135s for Steel Challenge. Use them in both a S&W 986 and CZ 75B. Plenty soft and controllable. 2.8 Bullseye gives me 874 FPS with a SD of 9.1. Plenty accurate for the intended purpose. Runs the CZ with stock recoil spring just fine. Run them in a 4.2" Bull Barrel STI in IDPA and the gun doesn't move at all.
