dforeid
Folks, When I bought my 550 I started with new 1000 rounds of new .45 ACP Starline Brass. I've reloaded these cases about 3 times now. What are you folks doing about cleaning your primer pockets? Once fired, I tumble my brass in the tumbler, but that's with the spent primer still in. Do you folks actually de-prime your cases and THEN tumble? Or do you just not clean the pockets at all? What's the best practice here? Still new to reloading..... Thanks, Don

Kraj
I tumble with stainless steel media, so i deprime before i tumble. Necessary? no. Shiny? Yes.
Matt in TN
I used to clean my primer pockets before every load when I was loading on a single stage. When I got my Dillon 550B I worried about this too, but haven't cleaned a primer pocket since. I haven't had an issue in a few thousand rounds. mickd1
shoot and just put them in the tumbler, I haven't had an issue in thousands of rounds. Edited December 8, 2013 by mickd1
GrumpyOne
Shoot, dump in tumbler, reload, shoot again....till the headstamp comes off with 45 brass..
HighCountryStalker
I don't bother depriming before tumbling except with my long range rifle brass. I admit I do put in the effort there but its on a much smaller scale.
ZackJones
Guess I'm in the minority here. I deprime all brass I get from the range before tumbling. I load with a single stage press so it's no big deal to me. I go shoot, come home, sort the brass into 3 groups: 45, 9/40, and .38 Special. Deprime by caliber and the toss the dirty brass into gallon sized milk jugs until I get around to tumbling it.
sdbreload
I don't clean the pockets. Just throw them in my SDB, deprime and size on 1st station and continue. Edited December 10, 2013 by sdbreload
dforeid
Thanks folks... I won't worry about it then.
yakstone
I've never worried about it and thousands of rounds later I still don't. If I was shooting for long range accuracy it might be a little different story.
