.40AET
I bought a 170 mm SVI magazine used, and it has a 1/4" crack at the top of the weld. Has anyone had any luck welding up some extra material and grinding it back down to where it belongs. Anyone know if Grams Engineering or another company fix this type of problem? Thanks for any advise.
Chuck Anderson
Beven does weld them up but unless you have had work done on the magazine, i.e. had it tuned, it'd probably be cheaper to just buy a new tube.
rmills
I had this happen several times over the years with SVI mag tubes. I typically sent them back and they replaced them. That was 4-5 years ago. Good luck!
ANeat
Anyone competent with a Tig welder should be able to fix it. If you were close buy I would do it for free Adam
TeamGE
40AET, A tig welder is the call. I can and will fix the crack if it is a part of my full tuning job also. SV will replace it if the tube has not been modified.
mcoliver
[slightthreaddrift] Is tig welding for a crack the same method you use if you want to joint two mag tubes (to get a longer one)? Thanks.
JFD
That would be my choice.
blue edge
Someone gave me a single stack mag that they pried the base off!! Why ? I dont know but I tigged it back on 4 or 5 years ago. and now it is a favorite mag. It is allways the first mag I reach for.
davidwiz
The Capian hi-cap tubes (at least the older ones) used to develop splits on the seams all the time. Most people just left them alone, but the mag tube (as can the STI/STV tubes) can be welded backtogether.
.40AET
Thanks a lot guys. I was planning on sending the big stick to Beven for tuning and if the crack can be fixed at the same time, even better. I will call SV on Monday first to see what their current policy is. The guy who sold it to me did some grinding in the area of the split which is what probably caused it in the first place. Best regards, Happy Thanksgiving, Kirk
.40AET
Update the the magazine crack. I sent it back to SV and they said that they would look at it. I just got a brand new 170mm mag tube back in the mail. No hassels and they even picked up the return shipping. They may not be the cheapest, but their customer service has been excellent!
