Any fix to prevent the hammer hitting the beaver-tail?

Because the slide is hitting into the frame also.

uuuhhhhhh..... The gun is designed to function properly when the slide is hitting the locking block of the frame. Trying to eliminate slide to frame impact during the cycle process is a pointless effort. Why do you feel like you have to reinvent the wheel?

Well, the bottom forward portion of a 1911 slide impacts the recoil spring guide (you can use a shok-buff there, if you wish) so what is the difference. 1911s seem to live through it pretty well.

It would seem as though the hammer marks could be alleviated by either trimming the hammer slightly or by cutting a notch in the top of the beavertail ala the aftermarket 1911 beaver tails ??

Pretty simple. If $100 part saves a $1200 replacement for cracked slide or frame it's worth it yes?

Becasue there is a huge track record of cracked slides from normally functioning EAA Limited guns???? How many rounds a year do you plan on shooting through this gun?

What you will end up doing is MAYBE eliiminating the chance of the slide cracking but in turn make the gun recoil funky and feel strange when you shoot it. Do you really want to circomvent the designed functionality of the gun to ward off an imaginary issue??

I think you are making a mountain out of a mole hill. Is it possible that the slide would crack with normal use? Sure, anything can break. But its not very probable. Save your $100 for repalcement LPA rear sights. If you put a decent amount of rounds through the gun (15,000+) the rear sight will probably fail because its a piece of crap.

Here's the thing Cha. The stock guide-rod is crap! It moves around in there and after time it chews your gun up (see Henning's site) and why he created his piece. I have seen this with my own eyes on my Match and have Henning's cone rod in two of mine. I wouldn't run my new one with the stocker!!! So it's getting something! Henning is still MIA so why not something to help more than one issue.I contacted the Sprinco owner Alan and requested the pictures. He said EG runs his Sprinco... This one is only $40 more and in 60 days I return it on the guarantee if it sucks. It's a $5.19 shipper for my troubles.

Pics I got to add something to this search:

  • 3 weeks later...

Henning sent me a 1911 spring as a try...

I took the 1911 spring in the Pro from 1" down to .600". It's about there but still won't lock back the slide. I'm taking it as-is and see what happens after the first few hot rounds since I think it's close. It looks like one coil equals .100" in length.
This was at 1" which is where I started this morning

I would have to say it creates the desired effect given how hard that last half inch of slide travel is. One more cut to .500" may do it.

BTW... I found an "installed only" DPM unit and put it in my Wife's XD.

Running Aguila 124gr FMJ I could tell a difference in felt recoil switching the rods. No malfunctions and my groups tended to be a little better with the DPM rod installed. I'm keeping it in!
