Intercooler2
Seems my 10mm pistols (Match/Limited Pro) have both taken some hits from the hammer putting a small dent in there. My Hunter hasn't done this and I'm wondering if my new Limited will do the same when I start shooting it? Anything I can do to prevent it?
kneelingatlas
Bob your hammer like this
Intercooler2
Any other way? I guess these two allow more travel backwards than the Hunter.
Steve RA
Other option would be to grind on the beaver tail.
Nealio
Your hammer should bottom out on the inside of the frame before it hits. Can you show some pics?

Nealio
I think you have some slide speed issues. My 10mm match has a tiny line there (didn't notice it before). But it's not as extreme as yours. Questions: How many rounds of 10mm have you shot through the pictured gun? Are you running a Springco recoil reducer? Ate you getting slide to frame contact? Intercooler2
About 2k rounds and most all of them have been EXTREME. No recoil reducer but do have a Henning flat bottom firing pin block and 20lb spring. I don't think I am getting slide to frame contact but is their something I should have looked for? Nealio
You will see a ring on the block where the recoil rod sits that's the same size/shape as the dust cover.
Intercooler2
Sold that Match but my Pro has a little spot already. I will photo it tonight.
CHA-LEE
Over travel of the hammer causing it to hit the beaver tail is due to a weak or under powered hammer spring. When I run a 13lb hammer spring in my Limited it hits the beaver tail and creates those lines. I prefer how the 13lb hammer spring works in my limited gun so I just live with the hammer hitting the beaver tail. I have shot MANY thousands of rounds like this without any ill effects. Intercooler2
I think I did a survey on the Hunter and it's not possible to travel that far.
Nealio
I think I did a survey on the Hunter and it's not possible to travel that far. Yeah the slide can't hit on a Hunter/Bullseye/Gold Match
Intercooler2
Here is the Limited Pro 10mm Is this the area? Possible contact?
Nealio
Take a pic of the block in the frame that the guide rod and slide stop go through. The dust cover will hit the front of that and leave a mark.
Intercooler2
You are correct! I see in the channel where it has tapped that block. My Elite Limited which doesn't have the hammer hit also has no hit to the block. What can be done to limit travel in that direction or prevent it? Nealio
The Sprinco recoil reducer is a 2 stage guide rod that slows the slide down at the last part of the travel. This will keep the slide from hitting the frame hard and causing a cracked slide. The hammer mark on the beaver tail might require a stiffer hammer spring like Cha-Lee said if you are already running a 20lb recoil spring. Nealio
Also you said you have a flat bottom firing pin block, do you mean the firing pin retainer plate?
Intercooler2
That's correct. Henning's block.
Intercooler2
I saw that Sprinco. It won't anchor like Henning's cone style which I really like but if it helps or eliminates the contact that might be better too. Do you think the Sprinco will totally eliminate contact? Nealio
It did on my 10mm. I shoot 155's @1380. I run the Sprinco and a 20lb spring. Also that Henning firing pin plate will also increase your hammer velocity during recoil. I would try the stock one
Intercooler2
What would be the best route to totally eliminate the possibility of the hammer hitting back there? I thought the flat block would slow the slide down and sling the hammer less? So with the Sprinco you can use a 20lb Wolff spring as the main spring? How did you determine it stopped the contact?
