djcantr
I shoot USPSA Limited with a G35 currently. I've been thinking about a 2011 but don't have the skills to justify the cost of a custom 2011. I have a couple CZ firearms and really like them. Yesterday I ordered a Tactical Sport in .40 S&W. Now, I have a ton of questions. The only one I could find in stock came with 10 round mags. I've ordered two mags from CZ Custom and two direct from CZ. Both have the same part number but CZ Custom lists them at 17 rounds and CZ at 16 rounds. Are they the same mag? I've ordered four extended base pads from CZ Custom. They're out of stock on the springs and followers they recommend. Are there substitute springs and followers I should look at or just wait until theirs come back in stock? I ordered a stainless guide rod and 15 lb recoil spring. I wasn't sure what spring weight I should try for the mainspring. Looked like the most popular was 13 lb and CZ Custom was out of stock. Is that the weight I should look for? I reload and have a bunch of .40 S&W I loaded up for my G35. I loaded to major PF and used CCI primers and an OAL of 1.135". I'm hoping these will function in the TS. What loads are you guys using in your TSs? I ordered a Blade Tech DOH holster as well. I have some CR Speed pouches I had already ordered and a comp belt. What about sights? I like a fiber optic front sight. What parts should I stock up on to keep in my range bag? Thanks for any info!
G34 CORDY
I just bought one myself recently, from what I have been told the factory recoil spring is a 14lb so I ordered a 13lb. A 13lb main spring should do the trick. As for ammo the ammo you have is perfect and only takes factory length ammo like you have. Don't load any longer because they won't fit in he mags or will get hug up in the mags. Contact CZ Custom and they will help you with all of your questions. kitestir
As for mag springs give grams a call. He make cz TS spring and follower combination that work awesome! I actually liked them better then cz customs. It is not on his site, or woesnt the last time I ordered them anyway. As for recoil I was using a 13lb. I never saw a need to change the main spring. Not sure why you would.... I did put in an extended firing pin and heavy spring not because I really needed to, just for piece of mind. For loads I was shooting at 1.130-1.135. I think if you hit 1.138 is when you start to have problems with mags getting hung up. I was running 4.6-4.8 gr of titegroup under berry 180's. Almost forgot- the original IPSC ST came with 16 round mags. The TS comes with 17 round mags. The only difference I can tell is the witness hole. They are at 16 and 17 respectively. With the extended base pad and grams springs/followers I can get 20 in most and 21 in a couple after the springs break in a bit. The 21 round mags are both 16 and 17 rounders originally so I never found a difference. Hope this helps. Edited March 17, 2013 by kitestir
djcantr
Thanks for the info, guys. I'll check out Grams springs. I'll also look for an extended firing pin. Even if it functions well now, I like to have spare parts on hand. As to the 16/17 capacity, maybe the mag bodies are the same but there's a slight difference in the base pad? I guess I'll find out when they get here. Glad to hear my current load should work fine. I also use Titegroup, 4.7 gr with a 180 gr JHP from Montana Gold. G34 CORDY
You might have issues with the JHP in the TS, some do some dont so hopefully they will run in yours.
djcantr
Are there any other sources for Grams Engineering mag springs and followers? I emailed them Monday morning and still have not received a response. I've tried calling several times on various days and various times of the day. Carlos
Have you been to the sight www.strictlyIPSC.com? The ammo you loaded should be fine. There is some belief that - unlike Glocks - the CZs in general run better with shorter OALs rather than close to max COAL. As for spares, bring the 4 extra slide stops with you (though @ 167 PF and the factory buffer, you may not need them). Beyond that, the 2 Standard IPSCs I've owned were great. I run regular 75 grips covered with skate tape.
Stuck in C
I have one of the older IPSC Standards in .40, which I bought during the last magazine restriction law, so it came with 10 round mags. When the ban was lifted I bought 4 IPSC Standard mags, which held 16. After the TS came out I bought 4 more mags marked "Tactical Sport" which were supposed to hold 17, but I was never able to get more than 16 in them. They actually look identical except for the markings. Maybe the newer versions do hold 17. And, by the way, I have never had any luck using any of the extended base pads (CZ Custom and Taylor Freelance). I've tried the factory followers with extra power springs, CZ Custom springs and followers, and Gram's springs and followers. All nosedive and fail to feed with both factory ammo and my 1.135" reloads. The pistol is flawless and never jams with the original 10 round mags. I'm the only one I know who has this problem. Must be something I did in an earlier life...
Bunsen
I like the fiber optic front with the fixed rear for sights. As for the recoil spring I stick with the 14 lb and keep a spare in my bag plus an extra slide stip and the parts to install a new extractor. Oh and some extra fiber optic rod. asimonp79
Well lets begin The TS comes with wooden cheecks, iron black front sight, plastic magwell. What you can do is: front sight . Oh yeah and put the green fiber optic- the green fiber looks very good on red popper. http://czcustom.com/...FibreRod-2.aspx * Don't chaneg the rear sight- the popper will be identical in the view *the chekers are different and you should choose them wisely http://czcustom.com/...ve-checker.aspx http://czcustom.com/...tic-Rubber.aspx * magwell- you will have to cut the grips acordign to magwell http://czcustom.com/...gwelllarge.aspx * get a mainsprign from CGW http://www.cajungunw...pring_kits.html HS-12000 - CGW's custom wound 11.5# hammer spring, recommended only for use with extended firing pins. NOTE: Not recommended for use with the OEM firing pin spring, see RP-FPS, CGW's matching reduced power firing pin spring * get a long firing pin http://czcustom.com/...dfiringpin.aspx * sport hammer- will change the triger geometry, if you have small hands- the trigger will be closer ( you will have to adjust the screw in the trigger ) http://czcustom.com/...er-TS-IPSC.aspx you can also put flat trigger - this is your own prefferences http://czcustom.com/...roduct-132.aspx a large safety- the large pedal is awsome - it will prevent your hand beeing cut from factory safety http://czcustom.com/...isafetylhs.aspx if you want that recoil soft- get a sprinco buffer/shock reducer http://www.sprinco.com/recoil.html 19056 CZ-75 Standard IPSC - Tactical/Sports .40 S&W only (Use with Factory or Buffer Tech Polymer Buffer) (Not available for 9mm models) and yes - the slide stops are breaking ( with factory ammo) after ~ 6K shots. kneelingatlas
If you want a 13# hammer spring, go to Wolff Springs' website and order the 13# hammer spring for the Beretta 92, it's the same spring. Although I like a fast hammer, so I use an 18# spring; a light hammer spring is a good way to lighten a DA pull, but on SAO, a race hammer and polished internals is the trick. My trigger is 1# 10oz with the 18# spring; sure I can get it lighter with a lighter spring, but it feels sluggish/mushy. The fixed rear makes an awesome slide racker, so if you change yours out I WANT IT! #14 recoil spring is just right for me, the 11# worked fine in practice, but the shit the bed in an outdoor match, so I don't risk it. I tried the Sprinco and didn't like it, but to each is his own. Congrats on the TS, enjoy.

I have 12#, 13#, 14# and 15# recoil springs. Haven't done any testing with them, just put in the 14#. I will probably add the fiber optic front sight you suggested as well as the oversized safety. How much modification does that magwell need to fit in the box for LImited with the factory rear sight? While I'm only shooting in local matches that don't check pistols in a box, I'd like to remain legal for my own mind. We talking just a little bit of filing on the bottom of it? A couple hundredths or more like 1/8"?

I like that function of it so I doubt I'll be changing it out. What hammer do you suggest? My trigger pull is the same as yours at 1 lb 10 oz. I have it adjusted down so the total movement of the trigger is just .15" with reliable function. What can a different hammer do for me?
kneelingatlas
the total movement of the trigger is just .15" with reliable function. What can a different hammer do for me? My total trigger travel is .09" with this hammer: http://czcustom.com/CZ-Competition-Hammer-TS-IPSC.aspx and with a 9# hammer spring the pull weight is 1# 2oz. Croomrider
How much modification does that magwell need to fit in the box for LImited with the factory rear sight? I don't think there is a "box" for a USPSA limited pistol. There is a box for limited magazines, but that shouldn't effect how big the mag well is! Mike The CZ Custom site notates that the listed magwell needs modification to fit in the IPSC box. Would that magwell on the Tactical Sport not fit in the IPSC box but is legal for USPSA? Just want to make sure I'm following the rules.

bluejdixon
My total trigger travel is .09" with this hammer: http://czcustom.com/CZ-Competition-Hammer-TS-IPSC.aspx and with a 9# hammer spring the pull weight is 1# 2oz. Wow. Did it take a lot of work to achieve that pull?
kneelingatlas
Wow. Did it take a lot of work to achieve that pull? The hammer was the biggest part, the hooks are more like a groove (hence the short travel). I used a felt wheel on my Dremel and automotive rubbing compound to put a mirror finish on the hooks and the sides of the hammer, then just lightly polished the sear surfaces. I've been meaning to strip the frame and polish where the trigger bar contacts the frame, but haven't gotten around to it yet. I should add the disclaimer that I've never fired a round with the 9# hammer spring in place since I didn't like the mushy feel it gave the trigger break; I tried it, weighed it, then went to the heaviest spring I had which was an 18#. I think the 9# spring would probably work with an extended firing pin and soft primers, but for now I'm happy with the heavier spring. The 18# breaks like glass at 1# 10oz, but I still want to experiment with more polishing and a 15# spring. I keep thinking about bobbing the hammer and dropping the spring weight again, but the TS race hammer is $65 and out of stock everywhere, so I think I'll experiment with my little Tanfo instead. REDPANDA
CZ Custom doesn't recommend polishing the hammer hooks or the sear face. I did not listen, stoned & polished them anyway, and experienced a failure at a regional 3 gun match.

djcantr
Old thread! I've been loving my TS since the time I bought it. Just finished removing the factory waffling off the front and rear strap and sent it off today for Cerakote.
