Schedule 40
Yesterday, I was loading up some Hornady 185 XTPs using 231. Starting at 5.2 and working up to 5.8 grains. The starting load felt so soft that I started wondering how many shooters have developed a favorite load for using .45 in Production. I have heard of many shooters who use .40 minor for Production, but I've never heard of it being done with .45. Any suggestions would be much apprecitated. OperationHitFactor
Never tried 45, but 180 grain and titegroup or N320 at about 140 powerfactor is sweet! I'm sure 185 45 minor load would be a good shooter as well. I like to keep the powerfactor between 140-145 shooting those heavy bullets. Otherwise the slide is just too noodle like and feels like I'm shooting butterflies not bullets. Try it, it's probably great especially with lead. dirty whiteboy
I have used 45 in Production. 200gr Montanagold FP over 4.2 of Clays. Or 230 Zero with 3.6 Clays. If that starting load with 231 runs the gun, strong hand, weak hand, then I would use that.
Suicycle
I don't think it is that popular given the price of components over 9. Or getting back you big bore brass, everybody picks up 45 here even if they don't shoot it... 9mm brass litters the streets.
LSnSC
I'm shooting my G-21 for Production and SSP. 4.0 grains of Clays under a 230 FMJ. Soft shooting and runs well in my pistol.
Strick
I have played with it a little in a Para. I just took my 230 gr load and put a 185gr bullet on top. It was in the 140pf range but felt smooth and flat. Reduced the recoil spring and the gun ran as fast as a 1911 9mm.
