Apparently they were sent signature required. Now I have to go to the post office to pick them up. I'm in town during their business hours maybe once a week. Hopefully I'll get them this week. mgood Posted June 11, 2012 Share Posted June 11, 2012 (edited) Ok, I got my Tripp mags today. I have 5 Dawsons. I've fired 250 rounds through them, distributed pretty evenly among all 5, so about 5 mags full for each. I'm shooting "remanufactured" loads from Atlanta Arms & Ammo. I have both the 115 gr. JHP and the 147 gr. FMJ. Both just make minor. I've shot 100 rds of the 115 gr. and 150 rds of the 147 gr. (The 147 gr. is the same as the Team Glock load except theirs uses new brass and mine has used brass.) When unloading them by hand, one always seems difficult. I have not (yet) marked them to see if its the same one each time. I have had ONE ammo/mag malfuncion. One of the 115 gr. rounds failed to feed during practice. But this was during a quick mag change practice where I had repeatedly dropped partially loaded mags in the sand and shoved them back into the gun. So I'm not sure if I can blame the mags or ammo just yet, might've been me getting too much crud in there. 3 Tripp mags I just got. I have not fired them yet. One of the three doesn't want to go into the gun and lock in without a really hard shove. Then it takes way more force than it should on the mag release to get it back out. Tried it in two different guns. Same mag seems to have a very stiff spring (much stiffer than the others) and/or a sticking follower. It is HARD to close the slide on an empty mag, even holding the slide back and trying to push down the slide stop. (Again tried on two guns. And no, I don't push the slide stop and let the slide slam forward when empty.) Loading and unloading it a few times might help the spring/follower thing. Enlarging the hole where the mag catch grabs it might fix the difficulty inserting and releasing the mag. Or I might not jack with it and just send it back to Tripp. I have no doubt they'd take care of it. I've heard they're great to deal with. So the Dawsons so far, one of five might have a minor issue, still unverified. The Tripps so far, one of three has a significant issue. duhbob Posted June 15, 2012 Share Posted June 15, 2012 +1 Tripp Cobra 1911 mags with Dawson Ice magwell, and Dawson 002-034 base pads for my SA Range Officer 45. The base pads are "triangular shaped", so they stick out below the bottom, and yet they fit the box at major matches. Hope this helps, Kirby Same here, my Wilson ETM's have been 100% reliable, but are not reloadable with 10 in the mag. Tripps are pretty good. Metalform 9 round mags have been 100% for me for years and they hold up great over years, the only trouble is they are 1 round short to play Single Stack. mgood Posted June 17, 2012 Share Posted June 17, 2012 Fired another 94 rounds today in an informal match. Had zero equipment problems of any kind. (There were some software difficulties <_< but no hardware issues.) I started using the Tripp mags with the Dawson basepads a little. I fired at least one mag through each of the three. Interestingly, the one that I had trouble inserting into the gun? (See post above.) I was going to put it aside and not use it, but I couldn't figure out which one it was because they all three went just fine. Huh. Maybe the follower was just kinda stuck on one, being brand new, and it got unstuck. I dunno. Anyway, they ran perfect. The Dawson mags also ran perfect. ck1 Posted June 19, 2012 Share Posted June 19, 2012 Anyone running the Metalform "Springfield" mags, while I know they only hold 9, I've heard they're the least problematic..? I ran Wilson ETM's for a whole and they were pretty good, but seating a full mag with one in the pipe would go no bueno every now and then, not to mention nearly impossible to unload... Thinking I'd rather have 9rds and have it work every time, than 10 that are sketchy, they used to be quite expensive but I've been seeing them priced more reasonable lately... Bob DuBois Posted June 19, 2012 Share Posted June 19, 2012 While I've been very pleased with work done and pistols I've bought from Tripp, one of our shooters had grief with the slide locking back with one round left in the pistol. Kimber target 9mm. Another shooter couldn't get them to run in his Wilson 9mm. Metalform ten rounders runs in my gun but still like the feel of Wilson, easliy polished, good follower design won't bend like some other metal followers. Won't hold ten, remove two coils from the base of the magazine spring. Mine have over ten thousand rounds with no grief once the springs were clipped. Jim Watson Posted June 19, 2012 Share Posted June 19, 2012 I have 9mm 10 round magazines from Tripp, Wilson, Metalform (early and late.) They all work fine in my Colt although the early Metalforms required overhaul after they got some wear on them. The late Metalforms are doing well so far. My Springfield was very subject to premature slide lock with all brands and I shot it for a good while with the 9 round Front Ramp magazines. I think I have it tinkered into submission with the 10 rounders now. A good IDPA ESP shooter here uses Dawsons. Is it too much to ask for a name brand gun to handle all name brand magazines?
