Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. My (Cajun) RM called a mike on what everybody else saw as a scoring hit. He politely exclamed: "THE SECOND BULLET HIT AIR" !
  2. I have the same problem. I have a 5.25 skinny guide rod and lots of 1911 springs. I think my first bushing came from "Rich" when I set-up my first gun. Please help, Bob
  3. I just finished re-reading Ben's excellent book Practical Pistol. And today my buddy told me about this "cold drill" we might use during off-weekend-practice. Any practice session needs to begin with a full-out effort on the first drill(s). and this seems just right. I'm sure glad he found it. We gotta try it.
  4. I believe you just posted the best solution for me and quite a few others. I don't think Brandon was insinuating as much as stating clearly that the increase is Not worth it. How you can try to apply a "for-profit" business principle to a 100% volunteer sport is beyond me. I might be new to the sport (3 years) but I never once treated my gifts of time, talent, and money as equity. I volunteered it! The best way for your group to reconcile this price-hike foolishness is to refund as much extra as you can to the R.O. corps that are paying to work this match. Otherwise where will you put the $ thousands in question? The $40.00 a head might make a positive difference to them, (if not to you).
  5. The 1/2" preload seems like a perfect fix for the "battery" problem. I would have never tried it because I would have expected the recoil spring to spring-bind from choking-up by so much. I'm glad you tried it, it worked, and glad you posted the information...Thank you
  6. Turpentine comes from pine trees. Mineral spirits is a light petroleum product sometimes used in dry cleaning but mostly for paint thinner for oil based paints. At The Home Depot stores or Wal Mart stores just look for paint thinner. And for a couple bucks more per gallon you can buy odorless paint thinner/(mineral spirits). It's good for cleaning greasy engine parts too.
  7. I was lucky. I found .40 flat nose 143 grain lead projectiles GAT Bullets for PRODUCTION, also 175 grain lead swc GAT Bullets for LIMITED with my 5.25 XDm 40. I load to 131pf with 4.7 gr 231 (minor) and 170 pf using 5.5 gr 231.(major) CCI small pistol primers for both loads... Since Hodgdon HP 38 and Winchester 231 are identical, I have switched to HP38 'cause it's cheaper.
  8. I recently happily added a PistolGear magwell to my .40 XDm 5.25,(silver was on backorder black was still available) and while I was at it , I dropped two 135grain lead 9mm projectiles into the cavity beneath the backstrap for more weight. After blending the magwell-opening to the frame/handle, I now have a very functional LIMITED gun but with a few quick steps I can return it to "stock" for PRODUCTION. The gun runs major or minor with the same internals. And YES the magwell comes off without damage to the frame, I did have to clear some grip-tape from the bottom half-inch of the gun 'cause the magwell fits very snuggly
  9. Keep it up Jammer . You'll soon have a callous on that spot (like a guitar player) then you can use your "thumb rest " like so many of us XD owners do and a guitar pickin'callous to show for it...
  10. I don't think it's a factory part, since it has a built-in external (visible) trigger stop that the factory trigger doesn't. It is considered OEM. It is production 100% legal. Yeah, I read that. But what I meant was that I don't think that this is a factory produced part. I wonder if PRP sells these to the SA Custom Shop for their trigger mods. That would give it "OEM" status. Last week at a local match, this conversation came up again, and it was said by a "rules nazi" friend (with some authority) that PRP does sell the trigger stop trigger to Springfield...They in turn put these in some of their new guns at the Springfield factory.
  11. How does everybody else remove the Canyon Creek 140mm extensions for cleaning? I took care of the extra long setscrew by cutting-off 1/8th inch...now I can just tighten it til it's buried out of the way when I want to slide off the base. Also, I made a tool from a 5" long thin? thin? allen wrench; one end is now bent into a j-hook which is sent down along the spring to hook it and pull/compress it. The other end is now a finger-loop to pull with. This method is quick and repeatable, but I fear I might be abusing my mag-spring by compressing only the top 5 or 6 coils each time I pull it up.
  12. The DOH (drop and offset holster) is usually about $65. I got so used to mine, a Bladetech, and even though I shoot SingleStack Div. most of the time in USPSA...I can't stand the high-up holster for my XDm. when I remove the drop/offset feature for IDPA. I think your (going cheap) Springfield accessory holster might be a good choice. And yes, it's legal for both.
  13. I don't have any experience with the PistolGear.com 140mm base pad ext. for the 5.25 XDm 9mm/40 but their back-door tool-less base pad looks very user friendly (easy) to remove/replace. They posted a video about it in the products list.
  14. I was lucky. I found .40 flat nose 143 grain lead projectiles GAT Bullets for PRODUCTION, also 175 grain lead swc GAT Bullets for LIMITED with my 5.25 XDm 40. I load to 131pf with 4.7 gr 231 (minor) and 170 pf using 5.5 gr 231.(major) After some slide/frame polishing and a few hundred rounds of lead downrange the 15# Wolff spring is running great for both aforementioned loads. One gun two divisions...ya gotta love it!
