  1. How about a new entry in the Tech file on doing all this? Easy for you, difficult for me!
  2. OK, today started out really good at Area 3 for me. Nice weather, my shooting seemed to be getting better on each stage. Then it all fell apart. Actually, my .40 S&W Match fell apart. On the 6th stage for our squad, the hook on the extractor broke off. End of the day for me. So I have already ordered a replacement, plus a spare from Henning. Now I am wondering what else I should have in my spare parts kit. I ran a search on this forum with no results. What else fails most frequently with a Tanfoglio? As I mentioned, mine is a Match but I assume there are parts that fail across the brand. A slide stop sounds like a likely candidate. Any suggestions?
  3. I initially had what sounds like the same problem. What I discovered is that the base pads for the factory magazines have a very thin lip around the top. Probably the result of where the molds join when they are fabricated. File/grind off that lip and the magazine will set much better. At least that was my experience. I posted my experience some time ago - not sure it is still up. I didn't have any problems with Henning's pads. My experience was with .40 and 9mm Match.
  4. Much snippage More snippage Are you really on Central Standard Time (CST)?
  5. Does anyone have experience with lens replacement? I am scheduled for cataract surgery next week. Left eye only (for now, right eye is still fairly good). After talking with the ophthalmologist, I decided to go with the Crystalens. Does anyone have lens replacement for any other reason besides cataracts?
  6. I recall seeing a picture someone posted (perhaps on this site) where he has shortened the ejector noticeably. Not sure why, maybe to get all the brass to land in the same county
  7. Some of us are already here! Will be shooting Thursday, but am looking forward to seeing the big kids play Fri/Sat/Sun.
  8. As another "Old Timer" (turned 73 today ) I too like the fiber optic sights. You can get the green fiber rods from Brownells. That's what I did. Green has a higher visability factor, that is why more and more safty vests are green vice red/orange.
  9. This was brought up in the Quality Brass = Functional Gun thread, and has been previously mentioned in this forum. Am trying to deal with the 9mm "nose dive" problem. What exactly is "long" in reloading 9mm? My Sierra handbook says 1.169 is the max. Does anyone load to a longer length? If so, what bullets are you using? I have a large stock of Hornady 125gr HAP and am wondering if I should try to go longer? What problems might I encounter by going longer? I expect I would need to increase the powder a couple of tenths. Not trying to make Major here, quite happly with a Minor load that feeds reliably.
  10. Great article! Reinforced the fact that we need to be extreemly particular in our reloading procedeures. I am using a Dillon 550 with a Lee Carbide Factory Crimp Die in the last station. Shouldn't that take care of the problem? Would it be overkill to use the EWG resizing die in the first station and the Lee in the last?
  11. With 4.6 gr Titegroup and the same bullet, I get 972 fps. That is with the chrony 10 feet from the muzzle. That is with a Match not a Limited. Don't think that should make much difference, but could be.
  12. Looks like Henning is going to be on the road a lot over the next couple of months (in fact he may already be gone). Is someone minding store or should we order everything that we might want from the shop now before he starts traveling?
  13. I too love the Match. Have a .40 for Limited and a 9mm for 3-gun. The fiber optic sights are a boon for 70 year old eyes. Sure helps me pick up the front sight faster. You might want to add an ambidextrous safety. Before you start playing gunsmith (don't we all), be sure to watch Henning's videos in the tech section. Saved me a lot of misery If Henning follows thru on making a DVD, I would sure like to see him address doing a trigger job. My .40 came with an absolute marvolous trigger. The 9mm with a much poorer trigger.
  14. I did. Very short, learned much more about the man by perusing this site.
  15. My appologies. Brain cramp! Had the info in the e-mail. See you Friday evening.
  16. Inquiring minds want to know; when and where is the shooter's meeting? What time do we start on Saturday? Or is that redundant? Thanks
  17. Well I have the classic "good news, bad news" situation. Got the Grams follower and spring kit along with the CMPI bases (that apparently Henning has stopped carrying). This is for my 9mm Match. A little judicious fileing and the bases went on just fine. Loaded them up, WOW! 23 rounds no problem. Had my smith mill down the bases to fit the 140mm requirement and I was all set - Not! Nose-dives! Tried different ammo besides my reloads, WW white box, American Eagle 147 gr, etc. etc. Still nose-dives. Searched the forum (BE's), only real information I found said that the new springs might be too strong? Never heard of that before. People are always putting in stronger springs aren't they? BE had suggested in response to an earlier post that polishing the feed ramp might help. So I polished the feed ramp and have been leaving the fully loaded magazines (23 rounds) sit on the bench. So far doesn't seem to help. The nose-dives are intermittent, but seem to occur most frequently with the round feeding from the left side of the magazine. Does any of this make sense? Am I on the right track? Stock mags feed reliablely, so it is the Grams set up, at least that's what my logic tells me.
  18. Could you post the street address of the range for us folks with a GPS? Coordinates would work too, but my Garmin Nuvi likes street addresses. Thanks
  19. What about the hammer spring? I my case for the S&W .40 in the Match platform. Go as light as you can and still have reliable ignition? What is the stock strength for both the recoil and the hammer springs?
  20. Can I join Team Turtle? I have all the qualifications
  21. Looking forward to being there in June. Have you identified a Match Hotel/Motel? If not, can you recommend a convienent motel. By convienent, I mean close to the range and close to decent dinning spots. Not the Ritz, but not a fea bag either.
  22. I rediscovered something at the range last night. I don't know if it applys to all Tanfoglio/EAA guns, but it seems consistent for the Match model. The base pads have a small (we are talking a millimeter or less here) ridge on the top that can keep your magazine from seating positively. Note the green arrow pointing to the area where the ridge is. Pop off the base pad and take a flat file to the pad to remove the ridge. Presto, the mag will seat securly.
