  1. Ready to Rock!! Just finished my new AR upper (retired the 14"), all ammo ready to ship, and 100% physically healed up. Got my legs back under me after the Missouri Mud Match. Really looking forward to this. Great people, great match. JT
  2. Harmonics will destroy the aluminum. Stainless is the way to go. Those who remember when we use to shoot with the PDP3s and other aluminum scopes which would develop cracks/failure and there was NO stress in the failure area. Same thing, certain frequencies will create cracks unless isolators/dampeners are used. This was seen big time in the marine industry more so when the Detroit 2 cycle diesels were used. The harmonics would cause cracks in aluminum fuel tank mounting joints/gussets whether it had a radius or not. The tanks had to be completely isolated from the hull. I would make a WAG that the failure would be highest to lowest from 115 grain bullets to 180/200 grain because of the recoil impulse (Major PF). I remember how the Tangfoglios with a PDP3 mounted on them felt like you had a tuning fork in your hand. Get that boing, boing, every shot from the aluminum mount/optics. Combine both stress and harmonics and you are going to have a high failure rate. Sucks! Jack JT Engineering
  3. Picture of my son graduating from the Special Forces "Q" Course, 18D!!

  4. I talked to him earlier today and we will go over ideas out at MGM Iron Man. He's out in California right now and then out to Idaho. The life!! Jack
  5. At this time, yes. Eventually I want to have them separate. But, for now I would like to integrate a couple of stages which follow the sniper match format where the .308s etc. are used. I am open for suggestions, as I have never done this format before and am in the planning stage. Basically just thinking out loud, so to speak. Waiting for Terry Cross to get back to me as he is definitely the expert in this regard. Jack 561 317-9096
  6. Come on, you guys can't take me too seriously. Dedicated 3 gunners are the best people I have ever known in the shooting sports!! I will never forget the first Area 6, 3 Gun Match that was held in Alabama. Only about 60 shooters showed up and we all knew each other, great guys, and it turned out to be one of the best matchs I have ever been to. The guys did a great job of set up and it was just plain damn fun!! Jack
  7. Naa, check with Benny Hill, he makes it up that way, I can see the resemblance. Jack
  8. I met with the Deputy Chief today and he gave me complete oversight of the Leesville PD Range for competition. Fits within their long term goals for PR. No restrictions, other than safety. Starting the planning phase now and will do a survey of the back acreage by the water treatment facility tomorrow. Will get with Tommy B. and trailer the bulldozer, move/build berms where we need them when I get back. Open for suggestions, but still looking at a two gun format; Carbine/pistol and at least 2-3 stages for sniper competition. The sniper matches are new to me, so I will seek outside guidance from Terry Cross in this regard (Divisions, Bolt/Semi Auto, major/minor, etc) I will set up separate match dates for shotgun only competition and will follow the IPSC/Pan American Shotgun Championship format for these matches. Regular pistol matches will be scheduled on a non interference basis with everything else going on in the area. Of course as usual, we will set up a match whenever we get the urge or the need arises for practice. Later, JT
  9. Oh, did I forget to mention, extreme "Gamers/Whiners" welcome? The boys can't wait to see ya!!
  10. Michael, no, we don't have a website. Just a bunch of illiterate rednecks with guns around here. I will keep everyone informed on the site here or just give me a call. I will stop by and see Lee S. on my way back through this time and try to get him to drop in also. Want to shoot one of the matches with you guys. If I can find someone capable/interested in maintaining a website I will do that. These will be monthly/bi-monthly matches. Shotgun matches (as of now) will be separate from the Sniper/Carbine/Pistol matches. I will start looking at getting ranges on Fort Polk to be able to do some long range (800-1000) yard competition. That will open up a complete other venue/dimension and could be interesting. Jack 561 317-9096
  11. Gets pretty hot out there during that time of year. I love physical (Except mud) but would rather have technical for these matches. The great thing is it is always flexible, we do what we want to do! I just starting to get into the Tactical/Sniper stuff and when I found out I was shooting with Terry Cross over in Alexandria, damn I couldn't believe it, I was excited like a little kid. What an asset to have in this area! My being retired allows me to spend time out at the range and get everything set up. It is our range so, I can leave everything set up and tear down at leisure.
  12. Thanks guys, it will be challenging and fun. Especially the back section we have never used before. Huge area, all grass, about 20 acres. JT,
  13. I will be finishing up in Florida around the middle of July and will start the 3 Gun/sniper Matches back at the Leesville/Fort Polk, LA Range in July (Date to be determined). We will be building various apparatus/structure for tactical/sniper and carbine matches. I talked/shot with Terry Cross last week (KMW). I am going to pick his mind/expertise and get him involved with helping me with stage design and such. He says some of the most fun matches he has shot were within 300 yards. I am pretty excited about that as he is a great guy and one of the best in the game. We have always had great support from the Leesville PD and I plan to use the whole range, all the way back to the old obstacle/training course. Great natural terrain shotgun course potential. I plan on doing mainly a two gun format; Carbine/Pistol with Sniper/Tactical Rifle included and running separate, tactical shotgun only match dates. Up to you guys. We will see how it works out. More to come. Regards, JT
  14. Seriously, the simplicity of this statement makes great sense to me. Gaming just sounds so "Gay". Kinda like a Gay Gamer. Can't it be called something a little more macho/manly for 3-Gun? Jack
  15. Funny, I was talking to Kay Miculek earlier today, and she said it was the old school 50 yard standards that gave her the advantage in winning the Area 4 over Athena lee. Standards were big back in the day and that is what I grew up in and it was definitely boring. Rarely see them anymore. Hate loosing, so I reckon I need to change my views and get with the program. You still on that nurses late night schedule, even in retirement? Jack
  16. I believe I probably owe apologies and perhaps need to change my view of the sport. Shot my first match in Sanford, NC in 1978 or 79, so I have been in the game for a while now. Have had the discussion about intent/gaming with Amidon and David Hayden on several occasions because I respect their views and have asked for their guidance when I thought I had carried my views/actions with regards to gaming/gamers too far. It had been hammered into me all my life that you obey the rules in sports or it is considered cheating. Kinda funny because I have always lived my life outside the lines but I have never strayed from the letter of the law/rules with regards to sports. Our mantra in SF was if you ain't cheating then you ain't trying, but that was a different world and lives were on the line. Being creative and thinking outside the box keeps you alive. This sport/game has definitely evolved through the years and has become very dynamic and one hell of a lot of fun, but it is still only a sport/game. I probably won't change my ethics, but it is wrong of me to impose my views on others. I always looked at it like running a 220 yard race around the outside of a football field. We know you are supposed to run around the field, but if someone decides they are going to cut across the middle of the field and get to the finish line first, because no one said they couldn't, I just don't understand where one would get satisfaction from that. It would be a hollow victory for me. I can not find it in myself to manipulate the rules/stage design to win. Old school values? don't know. Apparently that may be my shortcoming, but I will deal with that. I feel I am cheating if I try and do this. It will never be perfect and we don't need one inch thick rule books, because someone will always figure a way around a stage/course of fire other than the supposed "Intent". It is the responsibility of the MD to insure the integrity of the match is not compromised. Or does integrity even matter anymore. Again, if I have offended anyone, I apologize. If I haven't offended you, then I am sure I will eventually. Best to all of ya, JT
  17. Sorry to hear that, but still no one would question your shooting ability or integrity in this sport. JT
  18. +1. I apologize for my use of the word "Gamers" in an earlier post. I am referring to situations that may jeopardize the integrity of the match. Freestyle and figuring the fastest way to shoot the course of fire is what it is all about. Life ain't fair but everyone should have the same opportunity in a competition so the winner/fastest time is determined by one's ability with the weapons system, not by "lawyer Speak" or manipulating the rules. JT
  19. Great match!! Mud kicked my ass starting out on stages 8, 9 and 10, but it was still fun. Congrats to Rob and all the division winners. I have no use for gamers. I will DQ them for unsportsmanlike conduct at any match I put on here in Louisiana/Fort Polk. If you can't run heads up, stay home. Thanks all!! Jack Before I keep getting hammer for the word "Gamers", I am actually referring to situations that will jeopardize the integrity of the match. Free style and figuring the fastest way to run the stage is what it is all about. Work on the shooting not on how to manipulate the rules.
  20. Matt, You shooting it? I am still in Louisiana getting ready for the FNH and then heading up north and get ready for the MGM Iron Man. Later, Jack
  21. When I left Florida a couple of weeks ago, the match was full. I will try and get of hold of someone you can touch base with and find out the details. Jack
  22. I have tried/own both and I go back to the TR-21R. Faster target acquistion, with both eyes open, because I seem to see more than I want/need to with the TR-24, kinda like an optic being too busy. Plus I tend to turn up any 1-4, 1-6 optic anyway to be able to see the "A" at 25 yards, so the 1.25 puts me there to start with. It is lighter and less obstuctive. The TR-21R is the only opitc I have ever put on the AR and it worked from the first shot. No getting use to and I like the longer eye relief. Exactly like Fomeister said, I like being able to see outside/arround the tube when I need to acquire/shoot fast. Jack
  23. Ten feet in front of the shooters box. For the US Steel Nationals we used the C-More signs on stakes with the "O" at 18" above the ground. It doesn't have to be exact, it just has to be the same for every shooter during the match.
