  1. A new M&P would be an easier transition if any is needed. Same mags, mag pouches, maybe even the holster? Same grip angle. An easy choice for me if I was in your shoes.
  2. I have a .38 Super Auto and several 9mm's. But I don't shoot major in anything, I just wanted a .38 Super. Brass is the only hitch for me. I leave my 9mm brass at the range and pick up the new once fired 9mm brass that folks leave on the floor. Nobody at my usual indoor range shoots a super let alone leave super brass lying around. So I have to buy it and I am loath to leave even one on the ground. As much as I love my super I can't argue that 9mm is cheaper and easier. Once my collection of .38 brass builds up I'll use it more often in matches. I considered getting a 9mm barrel for the .38 but for the $300+ it would cost to buy and fit a 9mm barrel I could buy a lot of super brass..
  3. I have owned two SA 1911s. Liked them well enough but sold to fund something else. Both were accurate enough for me and reliable. I used SA's customer service twice and they were outstanding twice. They will take care of you. So I would say buy with confidence and if you manage to wear out something they will fix it.
  4. What? Always looking for .38 Super Auto brass.

    VZ Beretta grips

If VZ puts the texture all the way up I'll buy some.
  6. Any comparisons to an un-buffered standard 92fs? Maybe include the Brigadier slide models?
  7. Got mine locally. New 92fs brig!
  8. Yup. Just got a new 92 Brig.
  9. The Extremes brought me back to plated bullets after a disastrous batch of Berrys. The Berrys would keyhole at IDPA distances giving me patterns not groups. I emailed Extreme and told them about my experiences. They assured me they used a thicker plate. So far I've gotten good accuracy with them. I use the 9mm 124 HPCB and the .38 158 FN. Good prices, fast shipping, I'm happy.
  10. I've used Silhouette for 9mm minor with 124gr. bullets. It works but I did get unburned powder in my Beretta 92. I think it is the same as Winchester Action Pistol, now discontinued.
  11. Thanks guys I really appreciate the help. I do realize that the Beretta and Colt are in different divisions. I have read that the metallic division is rather small in comparison to production and therefore might be better for the beginner[?]. Not that it really matters as I doubt I'll get that close.. My Beretta has proven accurate over time. The DA first shot doesn't scare me as I am a long time DA revolver shooter. I have found loads it likes and loads it does not like some Berry's Bullets a few years ago that shot a pattern at IDPA ranges! The Colt has also proven accurate at my indoor range where I do most of my training and load development [25 yards max.] The biggest hindrance is the lighting for my middle age eyes. The Extreme Bullets 9mm 124 RN heavy plate, concave base have shown good accuracy in all my pistols. I can't wait to try the Hornady 115 HAP's I ordered from Midway recently. They're on sale so you may want to check them out. My Dillon SQDB has been a great press for the action pistol games like USPSA and IDPA but it has shown itself to have variations in COAL. When I set this I make sure I load up the shell plate to simulate regular production. But the biggest issue will be finding a NRA AP match in my area to give it a try. I live in the Atlanta GA area and so far no joy.
  12. The title says it. I am looking for accuracy tips in my reloading. My press is a Dillon SQDB. I have been shooting IDPA and some USPSA for a few years. The loads I have developed work well enough for the ranges encountered in those games. But I am seriously thinking about NRA action pistol/Bianchi Cup style shooting so I want to wring as much accuracy out of my ammo as possible. Still not sure which division I will shoot in but it will be either production with my Beretta 92 [or a pistol I don't own yet] or metallic with my Colt .38 super auto. I am experimenting with bullets, I have some Zero 125 jhps, Precision 124 jhps and RN, Extreme 124 heavy plate, concave base. Just ordered some Hornady 115 HAP from Midway [they're having a sale]. I have tried Bayou Bullets and like them too. Other than bullets what else should I be looking at? Sort cases by brand? I have a great collection of 9mm cases and I just ordered some Starline .38 Super. What kind of crimp does my SQDB use? Taper or roll? The powders I have on hand are: VV N320, 330 and 340. Ramshot Competition and Silhouette. Willing to try others. The pf for Bianchi Cup is 120,000. Thanks for your attention, 19852
  13. I live in the Atlanta area. Any matches in this area or even the state? Thanks, 19852
  14. Thanks all. I will be waiting for any rules changes to settle out. But I will be doing research for when the time comes.
  15. For the past few years I have gotten a kick out of shooting my revolver in IDPA competition. IDPA for all its fleas is still fun and currently the main gun game in town. Always been a K frame Smith guy. Both my revos are fixed sight K frames, the very simple M10 and 13. Now I am looking to invest more in my revo battery since I enjoy it so. I have been looking at the Ruger GP series, used K's and used L frames. Willing to move away from the K frame for a little competitive advantage if need be. Although I can get a very high grip on my K's. What needs to be done to a Ruger? If anything? I've heard both good and bad and I tend to run my K frames as is. I would like a FO front sight if possible. I briefly had a new M67 that shot way left so I took it back to the shop for a full refund. So for that reason I am leery of the new Smiths. Thanks, 19852
  16. I have a SQDB too and find loading .38spl very easy with it. Just loaded some rounds with Fed primers that worked quite well. Sounds like something is wrong with your press.
  17. Your idea makes so much sense it guarantees it will never be adopted.
  18. Years ago Angus Hobdell told me that CZs like the mid range bullets best, i.e., 124/5 gr. Not sure if 135 breaks that mid range limit or not.
  19. I've ordered a sample pack of these bullets from Donnie. I've used his bullets before with good results. But I can't find any data for this bullet and my powder of choice. I just acquired another 4lbs of VV N320 to go with the previous one that isn't empty yet. I'm looking for a good minor PF load for my newish Colt .38 super auto. I am thinking of using this pistol in some IDPA competition. The 135gr. RN Bayous I use now work fine, I just like to experiment some. I am thinking about using 9mm data for a 147gr bullet. I would expect the velocities to be lower. Thanks.
  20. Thanks Super Dude. Very informative.
  21. Thanks for the replies. I have some VV N340 and Ramshot Silhouette I am going to try out. Best, 19852
  22. I have been shooting my stock Colt .38 Super for a while and I like it a lot. It runs fine with minor PF reloads. Just for fun I would like to load up some supers to a higher level. I don't want to race the gun but how hot can I load without a ramped barrel? I apologize if this belongs in reloading.
  23. I don't know what Bill Wilson thinks about it if anything at all. I don't see a downside to it. Anybody? Who would shoot an 8 shot DA only pistol in a division that allows short reset, quick reloading semi-autos with 10+1 round counts? I would, but that's me..
  24. Thanks for the responses guys. I was already perusing this forum when the question hit me. I could have looked up the rules myself and seen item 1) semi-autos only.. Which I did after posting my question. If I was in the position to pose a rules change for SSP or ESP this is what I would do, allow 7-8 shot revolvers in those divisions. Ammo would have to meet the 125pf and be at least 38spl. I may get into USPSA just to have a reason to get one.
  25. As this question ever been addressed? I don't have one, but I've thought of getting one but it wouldn't be SSR or ESR legal. But what about SSP? The only objection I can see is it probably wouldn't fit in the box.
