Looks for Range

Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. I ordered the Chrono yesterday, so I should have it soon. I'm gonna use the Hodgdon data and work carefully, checking velocity. I'm wanting to be between 132-135 on power factor so I have some cushion.

    VZ Beretta grips

Have any of my fellow Beretta lovers tried VZ grips out? I'm curious about a couple things if you have. Are they thinner than stock panels? Thicker? I can handle a bit thinner, don't want thicker. How about shifting your grip? When you shift the gun to reload, do they let you do it, or are they so grippy they make it hard to do that? The checkering on them seems to me to be a bit low, the factory panels have checkering all the way up to the top grip screws, but VZ seems to stop short. It looks to me like the meaty part of my left hand would be on the smooth part of the grip. Am I right about this? Thanks in advance for any help.
  3. Can I be added? Just got classified in Production, C-class #A-81499.
  4. I will have to get on that, thought they were more expensive. Okay. I managed to find data on Hodgdon's site, so I'm good for starting load. Now I will go Chronograph shopping.
  5. Okay, with all the craziness that's been going on, my stocks of compnents and factory ammo have dwindled. I have a level II match coming up in August, and I need to make power factor. Here's what I have: 124 gr BBI moly coated lead bullets HP-38 powder (WW 231's twin) Winchester Small Pistol primers Pistol is a standard Beretta 92FS. I understand the standard advice out there to start low, work up, and use a chronograph. I will work up carefully. I don't have a chrono, and don't know anyone with one, so I guess I'm gonna have to load and hope. I'm hoping some of you have a good load, including OAL that will all but guarantee I'll make Minor at the match for production. Thanks for any help.
  6. Wow, I did not expect the responses to be this lopsided! But, you've all pretty much convinced me. Thanks for all of your advice, I'll get on triple checking my gear to make sure it's all 100% within the rules, but can't think of any reason why any of it wouldn't be. Thanks again!
  7. I shot my first match last Saturday. Had a great time, loved it, will keep going to more. In August, the IL sectional match is being held at the same range I shot at last Saturday. I'm undecided on shooting it. At best, I would be able to attend 2 more matches between now and then, one in June and one in July. That would make the level 2 Match my 4th match. My rational brain (or maybe it's timid) thinks it's way too early to try to step up to the next level of the game. My enthusiastic brain thinks it'd be a great opportunity to see even more shooters that are better than me and try to learn. Added to that, there are people encouraging me to shoot the match. At this point, I am leaning to the "no" side, but I would love to hear everyone's thoughts.
  8. Just wanted to put out there, I literally had the time of my life today at Sparta. Great match, good people to be around, was great to meet all my squad mates. If the good lord's willing and the creeks don't rise, I'll see all of you next month.
  9. Thank you. I thought I was doing right, but he's got a lot more experience than I do, so I wanted to double check.
  10. I shot my first match today and literally had the time of my life. I do have a question though. I shoot a Beretta 92FS, the version with the combination safety/Decocker on the slide. One competitor told me I should be starting with the gun on safe. I thought that hammer down and off safe was allowed for this handgun. If anyone knows for sure, please let me know. I'm waiting on my rule book, and when it gets here, I'll highlight the appropriate rule. Thanks again!
  11. Thanks for all the help from everyone. I'll be at the Sparta match tomorrow, look forward to meeting all of you.
  12. I joined uspsa online yesterday, but don't know if I will have my stuff here in time for the match. Would I still be able to get classified if it didn't make it in time?
  13. I think I would have everything I need for a classifier. I have a good belt (carry type) and 2 mag pouches. Thanks for the offer.
  14. If you don't mind me asking, do you have any info on this weekends USPSA at Sparta? Start time, shooter meeting, anything? I see it's on the schedule of events, but nothings up on the websites linked in your sig line. I'm wanting to go and be a spectator for this one, maybe help out the range staff if I can, really just wanting to familiarize myself with everything. Thanks for any help man.
  15. And today, I joined USPSA online. Got the e-mail saying my new member packet should be in the mail within a week. My Com-Tac holster came today too. Now I just need to order a couple more mag pouches and probably a CR Speed belt....
