  1. AhhhHaaa....Now I see the proper place for this thread. Thanks.
  2. Varget would be a winner as I use that in my 308. DHTampa, what dies are you using on the Dillon?
  3. Thanks. Also, what powder are you running, and do you use regular Dillon powder measure set up.
  4. ok gang, tired of looking for too expensive 223 ammo that I cant find anyway -- time to reload. I have a 650 and I intend to reload full progressive (or as close as I can get). Mainly making hoser ammo here so not concerned about things like cleaning primer pockets. How do you load 223? What dies? I see Dillon has carbide 223 size dies, but they say you still need to lube your cases -- do you? If you lube cases and resize, do you keep going, or take out resized case and toss it in the tumbler to clean, then start over? Thanks for any input.
  5. The 1-10 twist is biased for the heavier/longer bullets like 175 SMK (what I use), 185 Lapua, or even 155 Lapua which are very long. HOWEVER, a fella over at SnipersHide did up some loads with 110vmax and they shot very well...he might have had a 1-11, but you get the idea.
  6. Any idea if a Stony Point knob would work on that bad boy? I am thinking about some matches that go out to 500 to 600 yards.
  7. never mind *I had asked what the elevation knob looked like, but you can see it in the ARFCom link above. Thanks for the info.
  8. Thanks Tyro, tried the JP spring...good thought, but no joy.
  9. Hi folks, I fished this thread up in a search. I recently acquired an AR with a RRA 2 stage that has a second stage over 6 pounds. Breaks very crisp, but way too heavy for precision. I see some folks say they have "tuned" the trigger to get the weight down. What did you do? Thanks.
  10. Linkey The Bogen is the poop. If you are only shooting on the flat range, I suppose it is not really necessary, but still good kit.
  11. I load for my 308 on a 650, but it is in what I guess you call semi-progressive mode. I am weighing powder on each case. Consistently 1/2 MOA ammo. Best group has been 5 shots at 500 yards in 1.5 inches....that will do. For a tactical match, minimum equipment is rifle, pistol and extra ammo; sling for rifle, backpack, something to write with, something to range with (hopefully your mildot or equivalent scope), snacks and water, eyes and ears, and a good attitude. Nice items are elbow pads (some folks wear knee pads but I have not seen the need), mat to lay on ground (the TAB shooting mat is perfect and a drag bag is a PITA), laser where allowed, Palm or equivalent with a ballistics program such at Exbal or Atrag, mildot master as a backup, and etc such as suntan lotion, bug dope, rubber chicken...... and a good attitude. Have fun.
  12. Thanks for all the responses.
  13. First, sorry but I used search and did not find what I was looking for. Debating between an 18 and 20 inch JP upper. Need for 3 gun and some longer range stuff out to 500-600 yards on occassion. Anyone know how many fps I give up with the 18? What would you recommend? Thanks to all.
  14. Not sure you got an answer on the 338 mags for the AICS. Per Tac-Pro, the 338 mags will fit in a long action chasis. However, to get a 338 Lapua round to feed you have to "perform a slight modification to the chasis". I do not as yet know what the "slight modification" is exactly, but I understand you have to make some room for the bullets to get up into the chamber. Anyway, apparently it can be done.
  15. Fishnet stockings could be found when a younger man.....but alas, only soccer ball bags lying about now.....sighhhhh.
  16. I confess, I did not do it myself. But it was done with a soccer ball bag LOL. Having painted other, you do have to keep the mesh tight against the gun or you get no pattern.
  17. Sweet, nice paint. Heres mine
  18. I thought I remember seeing, at some point, a magazine conversion somebody was doing that allowed you to load very long bullets for 223 and still shoot semi-auto from your mag. This ring a bell for anyone?
  19. Anyone useing a Heat Sink now?
  20. It sounds like your trigger has slipped out of adjustment a tad. I used the Sniper Country directions and after you play with it for awhile, you will get it. I have a very crips 3lb trigger on my 300 mag. Of course you could have something broken, but give the adjustments a try first.
  21. So who makes an extended tube for a 20 ga 1100?
  22. Good point on the Varget -- I have actually never tried anything else. Gunsmith said try 45gr Varget under a 175 SMK and it shoots too good to make me try anything else......but what the heck, I might try your load just to see how it works in the Dillon powder measure. What is your load? Bolt guns are just plain fun. ..... sorta like pistols.......and shotguns.......and AR's........
  23. ROFL!!!! Heratic....Blasphemer!! I use the evil 650 to load on.. David Tubb uses a 550, so I figure its ok. Now your case neck procedure I gotta see. I tried the Dillon powder measure and got wacky results with Varget...up to three grains off, so that was a no-go. If it works, roll with it. Nice shooting. By the way, shot the Tac-Pro Sniper match last (Zak did a report on it) and one event was shooting 20 flies (pictures of flies actually) at 75 yards. You had (I think) 90 seconds. Hot barrel to say the least, so you never know what your going to encounter in the play-rifle-world.
