    Glock grip mods?

It depends on what you have done. The "Glock Hump" can be removed which gives a more 1911 like grip angle along with making the grip alot smaller. I didn't know that, and stand corrected. I've never held a Glock with any type of grip reduction, so I quess i didn't help much, sorry.
  2. Hmm, I have not received my new FrontSight yet

    Glock grip mods?

I always thought grip reduction was to get rid of the Glock nuckle on the bottom of trigger frame, but I don't think it would change grip angle except to get a more consistant higher grip on the gun.
  4. SJC Open Major 9 I'll have mine around the end of March

    Light strikes

I had a rash of high primers on my reloads this past spring, and i blamed the reduced power striker spring. I reshot the ammo with a stock spring and they all fired. Once i sat all my primers correctly, the reduced power spring lit them all off just fine using wsp. At least springs are cheap to always have spares.
  6. Agreed. That white plastic pin at rest should be directly underneath the primer cup, to prevent the primers from falling out. At the down stroke, it is spring loaded and gets pushed back to drop a primer into the primer cup.
  7. Well, i just ordered the SJC Open Major 9 Glock with Steave at S&J Customs. The price of the total package including mags fit my budget better, and I already own and can work on Glocks, so thats the direction I went at this time. Thanks to everyone here for the advice and information, it means alot to me.
  8. Fortunantly there are alot of open shooters in my Section. I think my plan of attack right now will be to try and shoot some more of the different guns and ask them questions. I need to feel good with my decision, its alot of money.
  9. Thanks for the comparison on shorty vs 5in Bart, made alot of sense to me. Thanks also Tactical Timmy, that is a sweet looking open gun, and your post has me thinking. How much more money do you have into it for the mods you added if you don't mind me asking?
  10. Well i would like to thank everyone here for the responses. After searching and reading all day (i'm on vacatation this week) i'm going to call Chuck and order a Bedell 9mm. I'm just not sure between the shorty and 5in, but i know a local shooter who has one of each, and will see if he will let me shoot them when i see him again. Thanks again.
  11. Thanks, i have checked out the Bedell. I quess question would be shorty or 5in, and what are the OAL for them?
  12. I'm seriously thinking about buying a Dawson tuned Trubor in Major 9. When it comes to open guns i have no idea what i want. To those that purchased one of these, how do you like it? Have they been fairly reliable? What are some decent loads? I read mags are an issue and tough to get. I have a Dillon 550B that i have been using to load minor 9 on for about a year and a half with my Glocks, and just have the Dillon dies. I guess i'm just trying to make sure that if i buy this gun, that it will serve me decently getting into open, and then later i can start to figure out what if any changes i want in an open gun. Money is an issue, i have a certain budget and don't want to bury myself, as $2500 already is alot to me. I'm also seriously thinking about an SJC Open Major 9 Glock, because i already shoot Glocks in Production and can work on them, and SJC's is tuned and ready to go. I have had fellow shooters let me try both types of guns, and both were nice. I am just not sure which platform would be better for me over the long haul. I'm the kind of guy that buys a gun and sticks with it for awhile, and just don't want a gun that goes down every other week. Well, i appreciate any and all responses, thanks.
  13. Wow congrats, that gun is beatifull.
  14. For a drop in production legal trigger, i have and prefer Charlie Vaneks trigger. Fitted is a whole other story, and you would have to ship your gun off.
  15. Seriously though, hats off to all the hard working RO's at the Nationals. Congrats to Dave, man what an awesome race that was!
  16. Could this be the screw holding the shell plat tightening. I wrap the threads on mine with a few wraps of teflon tape to keep it in place. Bill I don't think so, the set screw in the side stays tight so it can't move. I also have a little mark on the screw and shell plate to make sure it stays lined up. Sorry Bronson i didn't mean to hijack this thread and get off the primer bar.
  17. I have the exact same problem on my 550 and it drives me nuts. The primer cup is slightly canted to the right because of the spring not being straight up and down, and i can see the drag marks on the cup. I'm going to call Dillon and see about getting a new spring that keeps the cup straight. As a side note, after about 200 to 300 rnds. my shellplate starts sticking whrn i turn it. When i tear it down, it seems like the little stainless ball is binding on that spring as well, so i'll be asking Dillon about that too. Aside from the springs as the fix, i have no idea.

    primers....

Thats to bad you can't use federals, thry are the sofest. Next in line for soft would definately be Winchester over CCI. I've been using WSP, and a few thousand of WSPM over the last year in my Glocks. My 17 needs the stock striker spring, and my 34 with reduced power striker spring will light any of them off.

    Glock spring set

There has been some very excellent advice here. What I did was just buy a few different springs and start seeing what felt better, and more imporantly what worked better. Every Glock is different like was mentioned. I have a 17 that will get light strikes 1 out of 10 with reduced power striker spring, and a 34 that will light off everything with the same spring. IMHO, what it comes down to is that you have to buy some different springs and see for your self what works and what doesn't work in your gun with your loads.
  20. I just used up 2K of them in my G34 and G17 shooting Production minor over the last several monthes. I only saw about a 10 to 20 FPS increase over my chrono. At 4.2 gr. W231 with a Rainier 124 gr RN, velocity was around 1025 with my 17, and about 1045 or so with my 34. At 4.3 gr. with the regular WSP i could not feel any difference at all. You'll be fine using them, just reduce your load by a couple of tenths and chrono.
  21. I think the 3 lb rule is a done deal. Im my 34 i tried the stock trigger & plunger, 5lb connector, and competition pack wolfe springs. On my Lyman digital scale, if i remember correctly, it measured about 4.5 lbs. I then tried same setup with 3.5 lb connector, and was right around 3.5 lbs. I didn't like the feel of the 5 lb connector personaly, but could live with the latter setup. Currently i'm using Vaneks drop in kit, with the stock striker spring and Glockmeister trigger spring. This setup feels good to me, and is right at 3 - 3.5 lbs. I put the ISMI 15 lb recoil spring in it, and it passes the vertical test with flying colors, and it shoots my 130 pf Production loads just fine, so this is the setup i will stick with. My load is 4.3 gr. Win. 231 with a Rainier 124 gr. bullet at 1.150 OAL. I tried loads with 4.5 gr. 231, and got 135 pf, and recoil felt the same to me, if not just a bit faster with the front sight return. I'm fairly comfortable now with this setup, so i can just concentrate on the shooting, and staying within the rules.
