  1. OK, I finished processing a large batch of entries tonight and we have just over 15 slots left now. If you are looking at shooting this match you should get your entry in as soon as possible. Also, keep in mind that match fee goes up to $75 after the end of March so that's another plus for jumping in quick :-) Stages are almost done and will be posted later this week. Round count is over 200 fer' sure and the shooting is going to be as fun and challenging as ever. Lotsa' fast=n-furious and lotsa' precision too, we got both coach! LOL The competitor gift table will be loaded down with goodies for everyone to pick from at sign-in and the competitor bags will all contain a match Tee shirt and hat along with a chamber flag. The shirts and hats are really, really nice this year and you will be very pleased with them. Lo-profile all cloth embroidered hats and 100% cotton silk-screened long-sleeve "Rifleman" style Tee shirts. The hats are dark khaki style green and the shirts are a light stonewashed green and they look sharp. Extra Tee shirts and hats will be available in very limited quantity at sign-in on the day of the match. Looking forward to seeing you all there!
  2. Hi Vince, Optics of any sort put you in Manual Action Open. Without the bipod you are also eligible for the Sporting Rifle category
  3. OK, lotsa' updates folks. BrainEnos.com has been recruited as the 2008 BARC match sponsor. Brian will be providing all the products on the competitor gift table that everyone gets a pull from at sign-in on match day (our version of the good ole' prize table, just done before the match). Plaques and specialty awards will be handed out for each division and category recognized. We will be going deeper than ever this year with the awards :-) We are approaching 2/3 full at 5 weeks out from the match so if you were thinking of going, get your registration in soon as we are capping this one out at 60 competitors. http://www.3gunrules.com/barc_registration.php Stage designs are just about done and will be posted by end of next week. Round count will easily exceed 200 and 30+ of these will be LD shots requiring a specific degree of skill to make! I look forward to seeing you all there.
  4. Hey, same here. As a news reporter out here usta' say "If you don't like the news, go out and make some of your own"
  5. Pretty much the same reason I seem to almost prefer putting on matches to shooting them over the last couple years
  6. Hey Brazos, I have no issues with the CA pokin' thing (heck, I'm the one that has to live with this shjt) and think you are on the right tack with almost everything you are saying. I appreciate reason and logic drawing the conclusions even in the face of hostile fire! BTW, we do it every which freakin' way out here and that ain't no joke
  7. Interesting point is that all IMG safety rules descend from a direct steal of the USPSA ones in the first place. USPSA has pretty much been the source and inspiration for what has become the modern IMG rule sets. The understanding I have of IMG rules origin is that it was an attempt to simplify and re-codify the existing USPSA rules for 3G and MG usage. Ironic BTW, the USMG Nationals and a few area level 3G matches use San Angelo scoring sucessfully too.
  8. I affectionately use that term Merlin, not to lower the status, but to differentiate the style. I also only use it after seeing it in use all over these here shootin' forums. The RM3G and MGM are some of the favorite matches I have ever attended for fun quotient. I think the "outlaw" sobriquet should not be looked on as derogatory, but more in keeping with the nature of these standalone matches. Picking their own rules alone justifies the term without it being a bad thing. Oh BTW, only a few of the "Outlaw MG matches outdraw the USPSA MG Nationals. SMM3G and a couple others get over 200 yearly, but many others are always at or under the level of attendance at the USMG which is always over 150 and has gone over 200 in the past when it was held at easy to reach locations (Vegas, Quincy).
  9. Now back to the main thread. Yes standardized rules would be great. Howzabout the "outlaw" matches just standardize their gear issues at the very minimum (read HM here). My suggestion would again be to look to USPSA for uniformity. The USPSA gear rules are pretty simple and yet cover all exigencies IMO. Use the scoring you wish but at the very least get the gear all on the same page. In motorcycle racing I can take one bike and one set of safety gear and go to any racing club in the US and have no issues whatsoever with the bike, it's setup and my safety gear needing any changes to compete. There are literally tens of thousands of folks in road racing using similar rules here in the US. Why can't Multigun competition with way less total participation get there too?
  10. That is one of the largest negative issues with Time Plus as it is typically practiced. The rest of the issues range from the lack of target score values engendering sloppy shooting (A hits mean little in time plus) to penalties that are out of proportion and allow one bad stage to destroy the whole match for a competitor. The example of tossing shots to game a stage brought up earlier is a symptom of poor stage design and shouldn't be worried over unless you design this possibility into stages by not designing it out of them The folks who like Time Plus do so mostly for convenience sake, it does not address parity or "fairity" in any way shape, or form. Hit factor scoring on the other hand addresses accuracy versus speed and rewards good marksmanship when it is done with a modicum of speed and it also rewards sloppy shooting with exactly what it deserves, less points San Angelo scoring is not that hard to do and considering the rest of the work required to run a decent multigun match, the extra bits and pieces of stats work is just fine with me, especially if it brings more accurate and equitable scoring to the multigun stats table. I personally think the extra work San Angelo scoring requires is being blown way out of proportion by the folks who don't like it. IMHO, it's a great workaround system until the software catches up
  11. Time Plus Scoring as currently practiced has inherent flaws IMO. Hit Factor based scoring as practiced by USPSA works much better to reward actual ability over a total match. USPSA Tournament Matches are not the best alternative and exclude Multigun Stages, but the San Angelo alternative really does work if you want it to. Myself and a few other's do think it can work until something better comes along and even though I don't think it's an end-all, I do believe it's the closest to equitable of any of the scoring alternatives presently available. And, yes, if EZ-Winscore 2.xx or later is on your clubs computer you can run USPSA Multigun by the book.
  12. Sorry, we weren't able to take that into account this year as the big consideration was a number of local club bookings and the 13th is what fit best in the end. Will be sure to stay away from anything 3gun/Multigun in the entire western region next year so everyone can make it.
  13. Ayup and I felt like being the one to open Pandora's box and I felt that was the best pry bar to use Seriously, USPSA rules may not be everyone's cup of tea, but they feature compatibility with most club pistol matches and they are documented to a degree that nothing else approaches. The scoring software is already on most club computer systems and there is a fully funded organization driving it. Lotsa' pro's from a tactical and logistical sense here
  14. Ain't gonna' run in any USPSA Division except Open. It has been ruled IIRC that mag fed shotguns are Open only (Amidon?). IMG matches play this one different from venue to venue. The rules hafta' let it play and I see rules being made against it if it get's too popular and too competitive right away
  15. USPSA rules are what I would go with. Many folks don't like them, but I think they at least cover the bases well. I use them at our club for MG whenever I call the shots (pun intended). Can't even count all the different IMG flavors out there in regular use, which one ya' gonna' pick?
  16. Don't trust Dell drivers even if they say they are Mac compatible, they are really not. All printer features are not available even when they do actually work. Again, stay away from Dell printers if you have Mac's. They also dump attitude on you big-time if you need support and aren't PC oriented The Dell monitors however are a good deal in some cases compared to some other brands.
  17. You "will" need to bring a zero, but there will be plenty of hosing too!
  18. Warning! Dell Printers Will NOT work with Macs. Dell does not support Mac drivers and you are shjt-outa-luck if you are a Mac user and buy a Dell printer of any sort. Inkjets with straight-line feed-thru will be the best label printers overall. YMMV. And yes, media type must be matched to printer type. I have an old Epson 745 (I think thats the model number) and a poop-load of new cartridges that need a good home, let me know if you want it all Brian. This would make a great label printer.
  19. We had 3 RNG stages last year and plan on 4 of them this year with round counts hitting 40+ on a couple of them. That is my biggest focus these days, but the BARC slowdown is mostly due to work being gangbusters and having had a lot of personal tragedy happen in the last month of 2007. I am back on track now and putting it all together as fast as I can Thanks for being patient. I guarantee an even better match this year in every way possible :-)
  20. Howdy All, After a slow start we have finally managed to get the date set and plans in place for the 2008 Bay Area Rifle Championship. $60 for pre-registration, $75 after March 31st. USPSA Rules, 8 Stages, 200+ Rounds, Semi-Auto & Manual Divisions, Special Category Recognitions (LEO, Military, Sporting Rifle, Etc...). More info can be found here: http://www.3gunrules.com/barc_main.php The round count is up, the awards are going deeper in count (Plaques), the competitor gift bags will be well stuffed and the shooting will be even more challenging than last year Looking forward to seeing you all there with your favorite smokepoles.
  21. OK, bike is in it's rashed up bodywork and old OEM wheels with twice used Dunlops on them. It is ready for first track day and New Racer School as soon as I can make a free weekend from work. Had to cancel the Feb 16th, 17th bookimg as work reared it's ugly head. Need money to race and work makes money Bike has been tested and tweaked and is ready for full on track testing now. Pix of the TZ125 in it's testing livery and with tire warmers on (just for fun):
  22. Yes, ready to rock & roll Henny. Work is killing my free time though. Gotta' make money before ya' play
  23. Hot setup for real good and pretty fast chili we have been doing lately is starting with Juanita's brand canned Chili Colorado (available at Safeway). Add a Huuuge amount of ground chile powder (we use at least two types for overall taste reasons) and simmer for 1-2 hours. Serve with buttered tortilla's and it's pretty darned good for a canned chili
