  1. Indoor drills are hard in MN since most ranges prohibit rapid fire. Without being able to do even a basic bill drill, I have been focusing on running transition drills. I'll put up four targets and shoot one shot, move to the next target, and fire another shot. I start slow and then see how fast I can move from one target to the next at a constant speed. Once I get moving too fast, I move the target array farther down range and keep going.
  2. This is one of the things that I am working on as well. When you're watching other shooters run a stage, it's so easy to listen to the sound of the splits. The fastest shooters at my local ranges are not the ones with .11 splits. They're the ones that can minimize transition time.
  3. Minimizing bounce is a technique that will help, but while working towards that goal you should first master having your gun return to the same position after each shot. The bounce doesn't slow shooters down as much as searching for the sights, realigning, and then firing the second shot. Once you know that the sights will come back to your first point of aim, it's easier to adjust the speed.
  4. This mindset is contagious. It's so much easier to shoot on a squad of people that can remain optimistic. When the group can remain positive, everyone seems to shoot better. I know that I try to squad with people that have records of being able to move on after a tough stage, and avoid the ones that throw fits when they tank a stage.
  5. I have seen this a few times. Normally this happens the first time the magazine is assembled or reassembled. Try loading ten rounds in the mag and then giving it a stout tap on a hard surface. That will help the spring to sit level in the bottom of the extension.
  6. I've heard a few stories about the new 40SW mags having issues like mentioned above. The interior dimensions appear to be wider than the old bodies. This causes the rounds to spread wider and then the spring is not transferring all of the pressure to the top rounds. The pressure is getting wasted pushing rounds sideways. You may be able to squeeze the mag in a vice (without going too far and then having a mag that is too long front-to-back. Otherwise, my TTI springs haven't had any problems in my new style mag. I'd love to hear more if you resolve your problem with the new mag.
  7. Welcome to the forum. We get a lot of you BC guys visiting in us in Minnesota. Glad that IPSC is alive and well up north.
  8. The Wolff firing pin spring will compress to the stock length or at least pretty close over time. I haven't seen any need to trim mine and haven't had any problems (running a 17# hammer spring).
  9. An official mag gauge can be had for $35 and free shipping from Dawson. It's a cheap way to ensure your mags are compliant. Most 2011 mags only take a little bit of filing on the back of the feed lips to pass. For the cost of replacing one basepad, you could get all of your mags back to compliance. If you end up replacing your basepads though, let me know.
  10. I have had great luck with the old and new style STI mags with Dawson/TTI pads and TTI guts. All 6 hold 20+1 (40SW) and have been 100% over the last 10,000 rounds. If you're not up to speed on the different options available, Atlas posted a great video on YouTube yesterday going over the options available right now.
  11. Hello from Minnesota. My wife and I are quasi-competitive shooters. We help run an indoor winter league in Ramsey MN and shoot every chance we get.
