Was the shooter in the shooting box? If so, before or after the "Make Ready"? I'll add one of mine for fun: Level 2 match - Range is clear command given - Current shooter steps out of the box - I stepped into the box to set my case and mags on the table - RO stopped me and told me I wasn't allowed to be in the box until he OK'ed it.

The rules seem to suggest that a PCC is either being "carried" or "stored", both of which require an uncased PCC to be "reasonably vertical". This is the only thing I am aware of that may have gotten you the warnings. Personally as long as your PCC meets all the other safety requirements and it is placed close enough to the berm that no one would walk in front of the muzzle, I don't see the issue. But, I am not an RO; and I didn't stay in a Holiday Inn Express last night. As far as penalty, I agree that it doesn't meet any of the 10.x rules. At most I would expect someone to just request that you put it back in the case.

Could the issue be that you have an uncased PCC (5.2.1.8); and, an uncased PCC must be carried vertical (5.2.1.5)? So, by uncasing it and then laying the PCC on top of the bag you create a situation where you have an uncased PCC that is not either being carried or stored reasonably vertical.

Made me curious, so I looked at my four "local" clubs that host Steel Challenge matches. Took the last three matches each club held (so 12 matches total) to get a larger sample. 79% of their entries where S.C. members overall. Would be interesting to know how many of those have a membership so they can shoot Tier 2-4 level matches.

Arm braces are prohibited in the rimfire pistol divisions, but I do not see anything forbidding them in the rimfire rifle divisions. As long as it is legally a rifle, I think you would be good to go. Per 6.6 Rimfire Rifle Open to any rifle shooting .22 Long Rifle ammunition. There are two equipment divisions: 6.6.1 Rimfire Rifle Open: This is the Rimfire rifle race division. All legal Rimfire rifles are allowed. Optics and Compensators are specifically allowed.

One of the perks with Steel Challenge is those sandbaggers only get to do it once.

There will be a few vendors, but no clinics or RO courses. Once things kick off on Wednesday it is pretty much non-stop shooting until Sunday night which doesn't leave much time for anything else.

If you are definitely going to be there during the week, take your guns. Even though the match is currently full and has a waitlist, there are almost always slots available once the match begins especially on weekdays. No worries about not being rated, it isn't required for entry.

For the majors I have attended, the majority of them where squad painted. The few that had dedicated painting staff it was about 50/50 on it helping with match flow. All depends on the motivation of the painters.

On the local/club level, I doubt very many "ROs/CROs/MDs" know either rule.

I would think once the "Make Ready" command has been issued that the 180 rule would go into effect and stay in effect until the "Range is Clear" command is given regardless of how the firearm was brought to the line. Based off this and rule 8.1.6 that you referenced, I would say it is a DQable offense. But, reading the rest of the thread, I think you handled it reasonably and fairly.

I can not find this "3 feet" rule in the Steel Challenge rules. Are you perhaps getting this from USPSA rules? While they have a lot of similarities, Steel Challenge does have it own rule set. Closest I could fine was "Carts may be used. When transporting rifles the use of chamber flags in each rifle is required, whether or not they are cased. The muzzle of the rifle must point in a safe direction while in the cart."

Would it fall under 10.1.4 as a violation of the stage procedure? So, a three second penalty for each occurrence.

I competed at one club that would not allow you to even step into the box until the RO gave the make ready command. That was a first for me. So, those type clubs/RO's are out there.

I remember Jason Edwards & Mike Foley shooting all 13 divisions at WSSC in 2018, and I thought they were the first to compete in all 13 in one match. Then Jessika Smith did it, again at WSSC, in 2021. What year did Jeff do it?

Yep, only two divisions; but they have Cowboy/Cowgirl Special Recognition Category for single action revolvers. It is up to the match whether or not they recognize it. It use to be pretty common to see it included, but it is much more rare these days as less and less folks participated in the category. Plus, RCSA is .22 only; so that excludes the center fire folks.

From the 7/19/2022 Rules Committee Meeting Report: Rimfire Revolver in SCSA competition: The committee discussed adding a rimfire revolver division to Steel Challenge rules. The committee decided not to add this new division. Reasons were: no significant member demand for a new revolver division, costs to matches to recognize another division, no advantage to USPSA in terms of increasing membership or overall participation in higher level matches.

Totally agree. If you dislike the movement in Outer Limits, maybe check out Rimfire Challenge or Metal Madness.

2021 WSSC - RFRO Overall Results: 1st place (Kunkel) 56.98; 2nd place (Nagata) 59.42; 3rd place (Gibson) 59.75. Outer Limits Results: Kunkel 9.80; Nagata 9.60; Gibson 11.93. Difference between Gibson and Nagata on Outer Limits: 2.33 seconds Difference between Gibson and Nagata in overall results: 0.33 seconds. Tell me again how Outer Limits has zero effect whatsoever on the top shooters or the outcome/results of the match.

I have heard from a source I trust, that the Area 4 SC match will be at Old Fort Gun Club outside of Fort Smith, AR. First or second weekend of October, probably Oct. 8th/9th weekend.
