  1. Federals are more dangerous than other primers. Dillon tech told me do not use Federal on 650. It's not a press issue. I suspect it's a particular primer that's slightly out of spec, because when I filled the tube there was one primer got stuck on my Pal Filler. It's rare for Federal, but that does happen every 10 thousands or so. It happens more with SB and WSP but they never pop even if the rim of the primer got chopped off due to out of spec dimension of the primer.
  2. Same gun (Stock 2), I have had 12 light strikes out of about 5000 S&B primers, and 21 light strikes out of about 8000 WSP. All these light strikes were on DA. SA was 100% with both. My personal experience is that S&B and WSP are very very close in terms of hardness. Never used Fiocchi and will try based on other's comments.
  3. Just had one last week after safety loading about 50k Federal. Today I managed to replace all the damaged parts, and everything is back working. It was due to a misaligned primer going into the primer pocket, by just 0.001 inch or so. With any other brands such as WSP or S&B which I also use extensively, this won't denote at all. However, Federal seems extremely sensitive, especially recent batches. A friend detonated a loaded round with Federal yesterday on his 1050 while it came down from the chute into a pile of completed rounds... Luckily it did not cause any chain reaction but it's scary. It's time to switch to 100% WSP even in matches I suppose.
  4. Is there consensus on the softness of various brands commonly available? As far as my own observations, here is the ranking of softest to hardest: Federal (regular or match) Winchester S&B Remington CCI Does anyone have different experience?
  5. What if an auto drive is used, where you cannot manually push the handle to seat the primer? I am trying to play safe with Federal primers... I only need small amount of ammo with Federal primers, and don't want any Federal in the tube or on the primer disk except the next one to be seated. Chain detonation is nasty.
  6. Does anyone know how to manually feed primers on 650, one primer a time, e.g. only a single primer on the primer disc at any given time? Thanks.
  7. I believe all Unica parts are OFM made for Stock 2/3, and you can buy it directly from Tanfoglio from their web site http://www.tanfoglio.it/shop/tanfoglio-unica/parti-unica/ As such, they should be Production legal per the rules. I will be shocked if aftermarket hammers/triggers are Production legal while the OFM parts made specifically for the Production legal guns are not.
  8. Thanks! Just curious if Federal is a must use (at least for match ammo), are there ways to mitigate or reduce the chance/impact of primer detonations? I can hand feed individual Federal on station 2, one at a time. I don't mind the slowness as I only load maybe 500 rounds for major match a year. Anyone has any other ideas? 9. Well, I did not call Dillion... I just went to their website and bought the primer feed assembly. It costs $83 bucks or so. I should have called them... My other stuff look good visually. I am just not sure if this kind of incident would cause integrity issues on other parts of the machine.
  10. After loading about 50k Federal primers, I had the first incident of its detonation on my 650. It's hard to tell the exact cause, most likely it's a primer not placed in the center of the punch causing it to be detonated while seating the primer, and then the chain reaction. The steel tube is intact but it's impossible to draw out the aluminum tube out from inside of it. My question is - what parts should I replace? I ordered the whole primer feed assembly from Dillon, but wonder if there are other parts I should replace to make sure the machine functions correctly going forward. Thanks.
  11. Well said. I hope they can import the "Unica" parts from Tanfoglio too.
  12. Hello, I am curious how everyone else using thick DAA belts are hooking up their Pocket Pro II. I find it very hard for the PP II belt clip to really bite on the DAA belt, because the belt is so thick (inner + outer). I used to run the regular DAA belt just fine, because it was not as thick as the DAA premium belt I am using now. Any ideas? I hate to hang the timer on my shorts/pants because it just drags around and bumps into my body when I run with it. Has anyone tried to modify the belt clip on the PP II to accommodate thicker belts? Thanks.
  13. Does anyone have experience or anecdotes on how shooting sport achievements are regarded in the college admission/scholarship process? I know most colleges are pretty liberal, but I am still curious to see if USPSA/IPSC section/area/national/world titles add any weight to a student's application. Thanks.
  14. I heard someone got these for Tanfo LF, but I just could not find on Henning site. I can only see CZ ones. The only Tanfo ones I can see have the thumb grove and not fully checkered. Any ideas?
  15. For targets you have to look directly east while the sun just comes over the berm, what are your successful mitigations to avoid losing the FO in the smoke (coated bullets) and bright light? Thanks. Sent from my Nexus 6P using Tapatalk
  16. I wonder how heavy the Unica hammer is, being solid metal. Not sure why Titan must be better than Unica. Has anyone done live-fire comparisons? Both Xtreme and Unica are manufactured by Tanfoglio, though the original design may come from different sources?
  17. I heard the TP9 SFX is slightly better than the Q5 out of box in various aspects. Have you tried it? I contemplated switching from Stock 2 to the SFX for a while.
  18. So if I go to Canada and buy one of those, can I bring it back into the US?
  19. I guess it's called the Aussie version? Does anyone know where to buy one of those? Thanks.
  20. So G34 and XDM 5.25'' with slide cuts form factory are legal, but others are not? I am curious if the TP9 SFX or the new Walther Q5 are legal? They should be both SSP legal, right? They both have slide cuts out of box. IDPA made P320 X5 legal with a 5 inch bull barrel (without a bushing, though the concept of bushing is really for 1911 platform). Why would a gun with 4.5 inch bull barrel not be legal then? Because some bull barrels are more "bull" than others? I probably should not use logic here because we are talking about IDPA rules...
  21. Email Tanfoglio and confirm that they ship production legal guns (Xtreme in particular) with any stock, xtreme or unica parts on them. Essentially, any parts that are made by Tanfoglio for a production legal model is production legal. That's what I was told by Tanfoglio. They might mean IPSC but I don't see how that's different for USPSA in this case.
  22. Wow, looks very grippy! Exactly what I am looking for. I am not handy... Can you please do a quick video how to properly hamd checkering it? Do I need to buy special files from Brownells or some place? Thanks. Sent from my Nexus 6P using Tapatalk
  23. Just curious if anyone has tried putting silicon carbide on the SSI scale 2.0 grip, the right side grip in particular. In the hot 100+ degree days, I found my arm full of sweat, touching that special area on the grip while "hands relaxed at sides", often makes the right side SSI scale wet, making it very slippery, even with pro grip applied to my right palm. I wonder if I can apply silicon carbide on JB weld on the surface that is the most problematic (as shown in the picture), and whether if that will stick and last. If anyone has tried this, please let me know. Thanks.
  24. If winning nationals is the only way to become GM, we would have 30 instead of 300 GMs. I actually like that, that's how IPSC works, kinda like that. What I do think will happen when HHF gets jacked up by 150% is that winning area/nats may be eaiser than shooting HHF classifiers. I hope the HHF updates won't become that.
