  1. No, my limited gun runs anything, for me, it's just these single stacks that need some TLC. You'll be fine. I have two 38SC guns that didn't take near the work to get then to run, double stack tho.
  2. What I have is Tripp 10R-40SW-RG, they started life a 40SW, and had a spacer for the shorter 40. I have removed the spacers, and the crimps to hold the spacers in( there were no 10mm available). I contacted Tripp, and got some new followers and springs, just got my pistol back from the smith, went to try it out today, gun runs great, mags not so much. The top two rounds will go straight into the ramp, after that, they seem to run fine. I tried the fixes that I used on my 45ACP, no luck, increased the angle of the follower and opened up he feed lips towards the front of the mag to try and get the top rounds to stand up more, to no avail. My rounds are 1.78 to 1.84" long, work well in my limited pistol. Hollow point and flat round nose. I have tried CMC 45 ACP mags with spotty success, haven't tried forming them tho, are for the 45. I will give them another try?
  3. For ALL you Limited 10 shooters out there, I'm looking for suggestions on mags for 40 S&W long that hold 10 rounds. I like the CMC or Wilson in my 45, would like something comparable in 40? Seems like the 10mm mag is the only option, but everything I see is 9 rds? is there a base pad that will allow the additional rd?
  4. I think I would start with the least expensive and easiest part first, the brass. If you can locate the suspect brass while shooting, put it in your pocket and wait for a convenient time to inspect it. I have never seen the need for an AFTEC extractor, the standard extractors work great in both of my pistols, Super and SC.
  5. I usually shoot starline, no problems, but there is one case I really dislike, AP. I bought some used brass a few years ago and it included more of the AP brass than the person selling it said? Live and learn. I'll be glad when it's all gone. I have shot just about everything else with no issues, but!
  6. I'm already there, I have small hands to, nothing but skate tape, and of course color. I don't think I'll have to take off much, mostly front strap so she can get her fingers around a little more.
  7. Thanks for the suggestions everyone, gives me a lot to consider, this will be a winter project.
  8. I agree, the front strap is probably the best, just need some more so she can get a good grip. Probably could get some out of the main spring housing and grip safety. You wouldn't know anyone who has done this?
  9. I am wondering how much metal I can remove from the grip section of a Caspian double stack frame without compromising rigidity? I am trying to get overall size down to fit my wife's smaller hand.
  10. That's what I wanted to hear. I think the pistol is to barrel heavy. I will definitely put this on the to-do list for the winter.
  11. Didn't you have your 929 cut down to 5"? how do you like it compared to the stock 6"?
  12. Well, finally got everything where I want it. This last weekend, I shot my 929 in a match, and the pistol and ammunition operated flawlessly. I shot two bullets, Blue Bullet 38/357 (.358) 147 gr and Bang and Clang 38/357 (.358). 145 gr. Also incorporated a Lee factory crimp die into the mix. My issue with the bullets creeping seems to have been resolved, checked every round left on the moon clips after a reloads, no movement. Both bullets are accurate, but the Blues are just a little tighter. Now I believe I will address the extra 1.5" of barrel hanging out there?
  13. The end play on my cylinder is tight, but a good thought. I believe I'm going to seat the bullet a little deeper, am 1.2" and going to go to 1.15". The Lee Factory crimp has been the largest facto in reducing the bullet creep.
  14. You almost had me Dr. Phil, I will get this contraption figured out. So complicated for such a simple device.
  15. I will be monitoring the process and any accuracy changes, and this factory crimp die has done more for the bullet creep with my setup. I will stick with it for now, at least until it shows it's not the fix.
  16. Okay, just back from the range. I tested Blue Bullets and Bang and Clang bullets. Both are .358 Dia, 147/148 gr. and finally got a LEE factory crimp die. The best performance cam from Blue Bullets, very accurate, and walked out .016". Bang and Clang are accurate also, but not as tight, they walked .041". I'm going ti tighten up the crimp until bullets start to tumble, but think I'm going to finally solve the creep?
  17. I have it set so that the bullet will just fit the case without scraping the coating.
  18. He must be having a great time pulling the trigger.
  19. I'm back to the chrono again. With spp difficult to obtain, I'm switching back to lpp. I have lost a few fps and chrono at 709 fps av and a pf of 163.07
  20. I just chronoed E3 today. 230gr plated round nose, 3.9gr E3, 1.266 OAL, 5" 1911 barrel. hi-728.25 lo-676.25 av-709 es-52 sd-20.5 pf-163.07 I'm going to reduce the OAL to 1.250 and try to see if/how much it will boost the fp/pf.
  21. Well today I tried 7 different brass in a quest to solve the bullet creeping out while firing. The load is 3.7gr Vectan, 147gr .358 dia Bang and Clang bullets, .378" crimp, Overall length is 1.2 inch, and Federal spp and TK .040" moon clips. Cases are listed by the least to most creep with average velocity and power factor: CBC .026" 925fps 135.98pf S&B .037" 915fps 134.51pf FC .046" 890fps 130.83pf WIN .055" 924fps 135.83pf Blazzer .068" 889fps 132.15pf I also tried PMC and A-USA, I discarded their info because, although their bullet creep and pf were good, they would not stay in the TK moon clips. So now I'm off to my buckets of 9mm brass to look for CBC and S&B brass to continue my quest. I will say that I've been talking with a few revolver shooters, and they suggested to learn to accept a certain amount of creep? I will also try .035 and .037" moon clips in the future. Right now I'm trying to narrow down variables.
  22. Try a local gun club or shooting range for range brass till it comes available. I am fairly new to the 929, so I have learned more than I wanted to know about revolvers. I shoot Open class in USPSA, 1911 style, so my views are a bit skewed. I'm use to a 2.5lb single stage trigger, my 929 had a 14.5lb double action and a 7lb single action pulls, this was definitely not where I wanted to be. Single action is out of the question in USPSA, so I began the quest for the lightest double action pull I could get. Am currently at 5.5lb, (involved a spur less hammer setup) someone else maybe able to get that lower? but 5.5lb will not reliably set off most primers, so Federal primers are the game, now have reliable ignition. Now you have moon clips, there is an assortment, I have .035, .037, and .040, and I understand there maybe more? Which brass for which moon clip? I am still trying to narrow that one out, why, because the bullets will walk out of the cases during recoil, I have never had that issue with a semiauto. Before you get to far with cases, slug your cylinder and barrel, I have read that there are many variances, mine slugged at .358 in the chamber, .357in the throat, and .354 through the barrel. So .358 bullets are what I am using, it has decreased the bullets walking out of the cases, but not completely. Now I am trying different manufacture cases to see if that will stop the walking. Once I iron out the bullet walking out issue, then I will start the process of selecting which moon clips I will use. With the material shortages, this is a bad time to be experimenting. There is some pretty good info on this forum about the 929, good luck.
  23. If your mag release doesn't have the hole, you will have to drill and tap the hole. I recommend purchasing a mag release that already has the proper sized/tapped hole, it will probably be less frustrating and cheaper than doing it yourself. The mag releases are very hard, and the very small taps break exceptionally easily. Nothing short of an EDM machine will get the broken drill/tap out, I have an example or two laying around.
  24. Just back from the range. The new load, 148 Bang and Clang bullet, 3.7gr Vectan 9.5 Fed SPP, 1.2 OAL, produces and avg velocity of 917 fps, or HF of 136.2. I can live with that, but the bullets are still walking out, although not as much. I have checked the crimp, .374/.375, it's on the verge of cutting through the coating and exposing the lead. Has anyone tried using a grooved bullet and roll crimp?
