  1. some vendors mention if the ammo is magnetic or not. being magnetic does not mean it is steel core. it may just have a lot on antimony in it. but not all MDs know this. best to shoot non-magnetic ammo. that is why i re-load.

  2. i had a remington 1100 that was the shotgun from the demon's workshop. it was problematical from the beginning. i sold it. i have a friend who shoots an 1100 competition model and it runs well. ???

i owned an SLP and liked it but sold it to a newcomer to the 3 gun game. it ran very well. i have a M2 21" that was my son's that is very good. no bobbles. i bought a used 24" M2 that looked like the world's ugliest Benelli. it had been shot alot and apparently never cleaned. i have had a few failures to feed with it. i ordered a new bolt spring and firing pin spring from Brownells. there was a noticeable difference in length. i just changed those out this week and have not had a chance to run the gun.

i did note that one batch of Federal bulk had lots of deformed shells right out of the box. i quit using those. i have shot the bulk stuff from remington and winchester and things went well. i do use AA or STS for matches, tho.

  3. I must be way overdue. Since I got the benelli, my malfunctions have been nonexistent. I don't shoot nearly as much as some of you guys but I'm sure it has 1k through it easily, probably more.

My 1100, as awesome as it was let me down twice. Consecutive years at the same match in the same bay. I guess if I followed the once every 200rds theory, I would still be shooting it, heck, I should call it reliable as it had double that many rounds between malfs. HMMM, maybe I should pull it out of the back of the safe & take it to my next 3 gun? UHHH, no thanks. Think I'll stick with my basically stock benelli.

I wonder if there is a 12 gauge case gauge for ammo? Might solve some problems before they become a problem.

    MLM

    there is---contact JP

  4. Before you accuse....

STC : STILL NOT 3 GUN! (think about how STC is done)

    ericm

If a match can score 3 guys wailing away at 50 clays at the same time, I think it is possible to score 1 dude wailing away at one clay at a time. I will bring up whatever charges that I see fit against you later. When are you back in AZ????

well, Kelly, he did have that van down by the elementary school, ya know. all in jest. however, the vagrancy laws should be put back in effect. reckon?

  5. okay, there was this bear, see, and, uh, it got into the beer cooler, and, uh, it made a mess out of all the front porches at the primitive cabins.

Primitive cabin # 1, the Sierra Squad. we now move the beer cooler inside. i still think it was some of those Texas guys who snuck up there and got into the beer cooler. anyway, whoever or whatever got into the cooler, it was only Mickey's beer that got gone.

<---- was one of those Texas guys who visited cabin #1...

there is a rumor to that effect.

Maybe it was a girl bear trying to get Mickey's attention! :roflol:

now THAT is a scary thought!

  7. okay, i will jump in. 22 years U.S. Border Patrol, 8 yrs. firearms instructor for multi-agencies in the fed system.

as a Border Patrol Agent we had Remington 20" 870 shotguns with rifle sights. we had to shoot slugs for qualification. we only carried buckshot in the field. makes you wonder why we had rifle sights? we had Remington 760 .308 rifles, which no one wanted to take into the field. until 1986 when we finally received some M-14s and then in 1988 when we were issued a larger quanity of M-16A1s, we really had to rely on the 870s. buckshot is very good for short distances.

we were armed primarily with .357 magnum revolvers. no night sights. (18 rds. carried on the belt and in the pistol.)

now, as to the practical side of our sport: it is trigger time with 3 different weapons in a challenging environment. i truly wish more law enforcement officers participated. that is the value.

each agency has its own practical training programs with realistic scenarios. our value it getting the trigger time. that pays off 'if' we have to use it. since i am now retired, i sincerely hope i don't have to use firearms in a real life situation. those still in the fight should come and practice.

    peace, y'all!

  9. i shot the Hobbs, NM local 3 gun match sattidy. i believe it was their 2nd one to hold. the first was a wounded warrior benefit match which had a great turn out. over 100. sattidy's match had 43 shooters. pretty good turn out for a local match. it was 5 stages, 3 of which were multi-gun and two were one firearm only. longest shot was 225 yds. cool and breezy (read windy) weather. they had some drop turners, and falling targets, some really fast swingers and enough 'don't shoot' targets to make it interesting.

with local clubs like this stepping up, we should see more attendance at other matches. Roswell, NM gun club is in the process of adding berms so they can host local 3 gun matches also.

  10. Trying to work up a load for my M1 Garand with 150 gr. bullets. I have a bunch of Varget which according to the reloading info burns about the same rate as IMR 4895. Is IMR 4895, of which i have none, better than Varget, toss up, or is Varget a wash?

    thanks for the help.

  11. well, i will durn sure jump in. USPSA just don't get it with 3 gun shooting. period. this has been cussed and discussed for several years and USPSA hasn't changed a whit. i don't shoot USPSA multi gun matches any more. there exists more than one reason.

i don't know where this term "outlaw" came from as SOF and RM3g durn sure got there first. mebbe so USPSA will get off its duff and change, but i doubt it.

    remember to vote!

  12. it is nice to be loyal, erego: i only shoot JP rifles. if they made 1911's and shotguns, i would only shoot JP.

they don't, so i shoot a Les Baer 1911, and either a Benelli M2 or an Remington 870.

John Paul and his crew are the greatest.

Of course, i also shoot only Sierra match bullets. Carroll and his bunch are the best.

on the down side, i drink Coors light. (but then again, i am getting kinda old.)

  13. Not if you live at over a mile high regularly! :roflol:

So, I guess the answer is "Yes."

But, do real "He-Man" really need air????

It's a beautiful place to shoot, and it's a bit over 6000 ft! There are bear and cougars and pronghorn and deer and turkeys (I mean the birds, it's not a comment on any shooters! ) and snakes! The scenery is like no other!

Hydrating is a great way to deal with altitude!

    Denise

Hydration: cabin #1, Coors light.....any questions?

  14. 1. steel targets that you have to hunt like a coyote to find. use painted steel and noticeable backers. (like the ones on the mini poppers at Ozark.) (why weren't they on the others?)

    2. slug targets further than 50 yards. slugs are for shooting through walls and tearing down concrete blocks. (well in law enforcement anyway.)

    3. cold weather! easy to cool off if it's hot.

    4. leaving essential equipment at home. ( like one of the three guns.)

    5. snakes!

  15. General could you please change my entry to reflect WWII division.

Now I am on the hunt for a Garand!

    This ought to be cool.

    Patrick

NO NO NO!!! Patrick must be kept out of the division so that the rest of us stand a chance....

I have seen that man shoot his M1A.

if you are afraid, just put Visine in his coffee. if, you are afraid.

I know my good friend was just joking about the Visine but check this out. From Wikipedia

"Visine prank myth A common urban legend is that a few drops of Visine in an unsuspecting victim's drink will cause a harmless bout of diarrhea. This will not produce diarrhea, but oral administration of Visine can induce dangerous side effects related to Visine's ingredient tetrahydrozoline hydrochloride such as:

    Dangerously low body temperature (hypothermia)

    Blurred vision

    Nausea and vomiting

Difficulty in breathing or even a complete halt in breathing

Elevating (hypertension) then dropping (hypotension) blood pressure

    Possible coma

    Seizures and tremors

Pfizer recommends that anyone ingesting Visine get medical attention or contact a poison control center immediately.[2]"

    Patrick

Oh in case anyone was curious I shot my very first 3 gun match ( a little local thing) with a M1 and loaded fast enough to keep the AR's off the podium.

Yes, Pat, i was teasing the guy. reading all that stuff, makes you wonder if it is safe to put in one's eyes.

    see ya there.
