  1. How many shooters are allowed in the main match...another 375 or so?

Just want to know, it will tell me how long the stages will be. I understand wanting to let more shooters in but I like stages that on average take about 50 seconds, not 27 seconds.

oh, come on Scott, if we lived through this year, we can handle anything. i did notice they said the par time for next year will be 120 seconds. so..................

  2. .322" is impressive out of any gun. 135's here I come! Now if I could just figure out how to use those bumpy things on top of my rifle. What are they called? Oh yeah... sights. With my eyes and your... er... um... "experience", we'd make one heck of a competitor!

i wish i could still shoot irons. too old eyes.

  3. Way ahead of ya. I shot the match with my own reloads. 43.5gr IMR8208, 155gr SMK, 2.775"oal, CCI primers and no crimp. 2675fps out of my 18" barrel and .6-.7 moa. Over the winter I'll be experimenting with 125gr TNTs and 135gr SMK. If I can get either of those two rounds to hit consistently out to 400 in the new rifle, I'd get the added benefit of lower recoil. This rifle is tits! If I get it any more dialed you'll be stepping into my "house of payne". :sight:

i was able to get my 135s into .322" at 100 with my 18" JP with a load of 44.5 grs. of IMR 4895, WW primers and Lake City brass. I did neck crimp as Carroll suggested that variance in groups is linked to variations in the neck tension. I am running a 22" JP now. I get almost 200 fps faster with the same load. the 135s are very accurate out to 600.

if my knees don't quit hurting i'm gonna blame you for the Payne. oops, pain.

  4. So RM3G has come and gone. After arriving at Whittington for the early staff shoot, I took a few minutes to get some practice in on some of the Whittington Center longer ranges. The 308 was spot on and easy to hit with. I had the pleasure of shooting the match with Barry Dueck on my squad. Hell of a nice guy! It was fun dicing back and forth on scores and in the end he edged me out, when I threw a couple of stages I'd dearly like to have back. The rifle ran flawlessly and I ended up posting a 4th place finish in HeMan Scope, right behind Tate, Barry and Jessie. I gotta say that this LRP-07 is my new best friend! I still love my JP15, but this new kit makes it feel a bit insignificant. I can't thank the crew at JP enough for getting this rifle to me in time for the match. If I could afford to shoot this rifle exclusively, it would find it's way to the range every time for sure.

start re-loading the 30. there are several converts on the Sierra Squad. (Of course we use Sierra Match King bullets.) for 3 gunning the 135 grain SMKs are great. Excellent accuracy and lighter recoil. don't be a major PAIN! (LOL)

that was a personal jab between Mike and me.

    welcome aboard!!!!!!!

  5. Other than the pump shotgun I have to say that this sounds like a lot of fun... I might just have to buy a pump gun... Any .45 pistol, or single stacks only?

i have a winchester 1300 that is set up for 3 gun for sale. it has two barrels; a 22" rifle sighted, winchoke, a 28" vent rib winchoke. it has 5 chokes, two complete stock set, one pistol grip and one regular and two fore-ends. it also has an extra gel filled butt pad. (nib).$500 delivered ftf.

Sounds like a great deal. Wish I lived closer to Artesia.

  7. Are you sure your steel can take all that abuse? I'd hate to pop a bolt or something with my HeMan bullets.

I'm going to try make it next year if you'll have me. But you know this "City-Kitty" as JJ calls me have a reputation of breaking a steel target or two in just about all the major matches I've been to.

you will have to work to "break" my record. ask the Sierra squad. i broke more targets ar RM3G the first 3 years i shot HM than anybody. Did not endear me to the squad as we had to wait for them to get fixed. Sometimes it was a long wait.

  8. I think you mean 2010. The year that one of the stages was "so technical" that they had to throw it out because it was taking like 10 minutes per shooter to shoot and reset. The year that they had everyone crawling around under pallets and one guy went home with his skull stapled together?

No, i meant exactly what i said. I liked the 2011 match better than the 2012 match; 9 stages with 90 second par time. No drag race. That was pretty plain American (Texan). opinions are like belly buttons, everybody has one. and that is mine. thank you.

Oh cool. There were 11 stages in 2011, just one less than 2012. The stages were a lot different though, lots more reset. Took a lot longer to shoot the match. I do respect your opinion, just questioned your data. there were originally 9 stages in the 2010 match in Cawthon before one got thrown out I believe.

so i can't count. i go so slow anyway, it seemed like only 9. (reckon?)

  10. Yeah I ran an M1A in HM division for much of this season. I found the same problem. Like Kuan, I also found a standard NM front blade to be the best compromise between precise and fast. Any smaller and it takes too long to find the front sight. I personally found the standard rear aperture annoying. Even with serrations, the large flat surface reflected too much light making the aperture vague. I ended up going with a Krieger hooded rear, drilled out to .070". This worked well and gave me the deep black contrast I needed on the rear to quickly align. It wasn't an easy install though as the new rear sight had to be stoned to fit and the M1A rear sight is a bit of a chinese puzzle box, which is very easy to assemble incorrectly. Took me a couple of hours to get the sight properly fit and several attempts to get everything assembled properly. For very close targets, learn to look over the sights and hit. It's easier than it sounds and on targets inside of 15yd, you can run a comp'd M1a extremely fast. Good luck and let us know how it goes.

Line up the top of the rear peep on the bottom of the front sight housing, keeping the front post centered on your aiming point. A good way to check this is to bench the rifle (or put it in a vise) then move your eye from lining up the sights as i mentioned, then drop your eye to the normal sight alignment. you will find the front post is in the center of the aiming point if done correctly. Play with it a little, it really works.
