  1. I shoot open in Steel Challenge and limited in run and gun. It's very hard for me to go between the two efficiently. After shooting open and pick up my limited gun I tend to focus on the fiber front with no attention to the rear sights. I hate to switch strictly to open because I struggle keeping up with the dot on the move. Any tips appreciated.
  2. We are also having a A6 Steel Challenge in May. Not through with dates and finalization yet.
  3. 8lb with steel loads of 115pf
  4. Just curious. I'm the Steel Challenge Match director at the CMP Talladega range in Alabama. The club has mandatory satety briefings for all Shooter's that come in. It is a one time briefing and you have to provide your safety card every time you shoot. Also new Shooter's sign a liability waiver to use the range. My question is if you guys carry liability insurance for yourselves? Should someone get hurt at your match there will probably be legal ramifications for all. Any input appreciated. Thanks!
  5. I have both in 9mm. After tweeking the r.o. It shoots as good as the Trojan. I just replaced the mainspring housing to get rid of the ils system and polished up the internals. They both shoot equally great. I use skateboard grip tape for the front strap on both. I also replaced the front sight with fiber on the Springer. With upgrades to the r.o., it's my favorite between the two.
  6. I bought a steelmaster and chronoed every factory load I could find. Winchester white box worked best. Mine was on the ragged edge of cycling. All of the factory Ammo I ran through it chronoed around 132-133pf. I have an occasional issue where the slide stop will lock the slide back when it shouldn't. Other than that it's a great gun. Shortly after I bought a matchmaster and suprizingly it cycles the same Ammo the steel master will but shoots much flatter. Now my favorite s definitely the matchmaster. They cost the same. My loads are a 124 plated rn with 5.2 gr. Of autocomp. Both guns run great with this load. I called sti and they said they both have the same recoil master system that the only difference is the comp. I guess is a few extra ounces out front is what makes the matchmaster shoot so much flatter. And if you wanted to shoot major pf, the gun is built for a pf of 165. Good luck and have fun!
  7. X2 on Dawson extended firing pin should it continue
  8. 1st impression. The emp4 is very slim and comfortable to carry. I have large hands and it still feels great. From the box I cleaned and checked the trigger. Exactly a very crisp 4.5 lbs. range report... Has very little muzzle rise (9mm). Very easy to shoot. It was grouping slightly left but easily adjusted and was grouping 2 inches unsupported at 15 yards. Tore it apart and polished up the mim parts to a mirror finish and retested the trigger. Consistent 3.5 lbs. After owning over 20 1911's over the years I have to say it is my all time favorite. Worth every penny.
  9. I like mine! My hands are use to a 2011 but when I held it it felt just right. Super slim and comfortable.
  10. Picked up the 4 inch emp9mm today. I looked a t a Colt as well but the Springfield had fiber sights and a ramped barrel. I wanted a daily carry in 9mm with the option to shoot as much as I wanted without worrying about the life span of a aluminum frame. I shoot 2000 rounds per month through my competition pistols and may give this little commander a go just to break the menotmny.
  11. For a shooter, not a safe queen. Aluminum and steel seems like it would wear very rapidly. I'm looking for a good carry commander size 1911 in 9mm. I had a Kimber cdp pro .45 and wasn't impressed. Opinions welcomed. Thanks! I would like to see Ruger make such an animal. I currently carry a officer size .45 but want a 9. Thanks again
  12. I picked it up at bass pro shop. Don't remember the brand. If I remember correctly it was about $120 bucks. Thanks!
  13. 5.2 of auto comp and a 124 rn produces 133pf through my match master
  14. I haven't officially tested the recoil masters system but by feel they feel exactly the same weight. I think the only real difference is the comps. The slide cuts are a little different but weigh the same.
  15. I've shot the matchmaster primarily for the last two months. I definitely like it better than my Steelmaster. I have the hardened Crome model so it's much easier to clean. The grunge just wipes off. My loads are 133 pf and I haven't shot factory ammo through it but all of the factory 115's I've chronoed runs about 132-133 pf. Shot a Steel Challenge Sunday and was having some ejections issues with the brass hitting the cmore mount. I usually file off a bit on the mount and polish. If that doesn't do it I will put a brazos tuned ejector in it. I've had to use them on two different pistols and they are magic! Never had another issue after using their tuned ejectors. Also my cmore mount had vibrated loose as well as my daa holster. Lol Not my day.
  16. My helpers are the single biggest promoters of my matches. We are busting at the seams on monthly matches and currently working towards a tier 3 area 6 regional with Bruce Wells and Mike Foley. I have to have good help. We have a fb group called speed south shooting if anyone is interested. Thanks!
