I say try a fast-er powder with a 115 or 124-5 gr bullet and don't count it out just yet. I did some experimenting with lower charges/higher charges with a few slower powders trying to work the comp. for a minor steel load I settled on wst which isn't a slow powder by any means. Wst is my new fav because it works good for 40 maj/minor and works good out of my 929 too. It probably doesn't utilize the comp all that much but the load I stuck with for my open gun is soft, easy to shoot, and doesn't have enough umph to worry about dot rise. Just my .02. Try different things and see what you like. For me a 125 ish pf load with a 125gr and a fast powder is my recent go to out if my full sized open gun.... But I am indecisive and that could all change next week

vortex viper if you can find one was made for milled slides and has a 6moa dot. I have one on my 929. Warranty is as good as it gets with Vortex. We'll see how my second one holds up. First one glass broke but I'm hoping I just got a bad one on the first try.

I have a LNL now and am selling it very soon to fund a 650 purchase. I am a procrastinator and wait till the night before a shoot to load up and it is normally a nightmare. Hornady's warranty is great and customer service is always a pleasure to talk with but I am sick of tinkering every time I sit down to load on it. To be honest most of the issues I have could be solved if I take the time to take it fully apart and call up hornadys customer service to replace any part in question but I dont want to or really have the time to tinker with the press all the time and then wait for replacement parts.
The primer system is my most hated aspect of the press. It works for a while but needs to be finely sanded and smoothed out to get rid of any high friction points. It also needs to be kept really clean to work. The design of the priming system is set up to fail, too much rubbing metal on metal and wears out quick. Hornady is sending me an entire new priming system and a bunch of other parts. After I get all the parts in and fully take it apart and address all of the little issues it will run fine. Ive put off addressing the quirks of the press for quite some time now and last time I loaded it took me hours to load up 200-300 rounds. Clearing the case feeder in numerous ways, dropping cases on the floor, crushing primers and having to clean up that mess, the infamous "brass rain" are a few events that I'm fed up with and were part of my last reloading session.
It worked great at first and will work with all of the new parts and a good thorough cleaning, but I want to try the blue koolaid and spend less time reloading. I like getting new things too so there's my other excuse to sell it and get a 650. Never had one but I still recommend getting a Dillon.

I recently put a set back 90 mount on my 2011. Had to bend the side winder racker I had on it down a lot to clear it. Worked fine but was really close to my thumb and I had to consciously bury my thumb to make sure it didn't get hit. I got lazy and let my thumb come up just a little bit too far on one stage at PSA shootout and got me pretty good, bent my nail way back. Im taking it off now and will either get used to no racker or eventually put a right side racker back on.

I went up to 4.5 gr with a 125g blue bullet. I dont remember what it chronoed at though. Ill have to check again. I might back it down just for steel because I think it was over 130PF. I'll update when I chrono again.

Wst. Run it out of my open gun shooting steel with 124gr and revolver shooting minor with 147 bullet both work great. I Also use it for 40.

Pictures anyone?? I'm cheap so a homemade magnet is right up me alley

same here. I emailed them after I saw this post and the quote to do one gun for an individual was something like $1000
I talked to Calico about 2 months ago. They no longer do individual/small projects.TiCN by Calico Coatings.
It's a PVD coating. Harder than the gold TiN barrels and shotgun bolts you see other companies use.

What peterthefish showed you is what you want. Then chop the rail off to match the frame, or optic length. Turns out pretty nice actually, you just need a super tall front sight.
Looks pretty good. I knew there had to be something like that out there I just couldn't find it. Thanks

take note of how many " clicks " from bottom your iron sights are for when you reinstall your rear sight. Windage should never change.
or just buy a dedicated open gun & iron sight gun.
Counting the clicks isn't a bad idea, I don't know why I didn't think of that.
Haven't used one but have almost pulled the trigger a few times. Now that I have a dedicated open rev no need but probably the closest thing you'll find.
You basically install your rear sight onto the base. Return to Zero for your optic will depend on your mount I suppose. What dot are you using?
I was using a vortex viper 6moa dot with an allchin mount. It comes with a rail mount which made me think of the rail option. I might give this mount a try though. Taking out the 6 screws after theyre all loctited in is what makes it, to me, not worth swapping back and forth. The funds for another gun arent there anytime soon.

Im asking for it all here. Does anyone make an adjustable rear sight with a rail attached to put a dot with a rail mount on and off without swapping out the rear sight? I know the R8 pretty much has that but I ended up with a 929. Taking off the rear sight and putting on a mount then a micro dot is a pain in the butt especially with loctiting the screws in. I would like to shoot open and iron sights without having to take the rear sight off because I am afraid of losing zero and having to re-sight in my irons every time I take the sights off. I saw the 629 Competitor rear sight looks like it almost creates a rail which made me think it cant be too hard to incorporate a rail to the rear sight without it being a huge long add on.

what finish is that and who did it?Just realized that's an old photo. It looks like this now.
The finish is amazing. In hind sight I should have done a more subdued surface prep instead of the high polish (it's so shiny!) but there is NO wear on it at all after a year and a half of shooting it.

Vortex viper was designed to be on milled slides so the made it very thin trying to achieve just that. Only comes in 6 moa though.

Go to the photo on your phone and screenshot it. Upload the screenshot instead. Has worked for me every time a picture on my IPHONE was too big.
Quicker than emailing too.

Buy 2000 or more precision delta 124 jhp and you'll be happy price wise and performance wise.
-
Same terrible results you're describing with xtremes. I gave up on them after I saw how inaccurate they were out of my open gun. Any coated bullet is cheaper and perform much better too.So got my new 9mm open gun today. Loaded up some 124s with 7.0 grains of Autocomp to test the gun out. I found that I couldn't shoot a group at 15 yards and the bullets were key holing. I bought a box of 115 full metal jackets off the shelf and shot a 1 inch group at 25 yards.
I think that the standard plating on the Xtreme bullets can't take the major velocities, does anyone have any experience with the heavy plated Xtreme bullet in 9 major or should I steer clear. I don't want to buy 6K bullets that I can't use in my open gun.
Thanks in advance for the advice

can you post a link to where zero bullets can be purchased?+1 buy in bulk from powder valley.
Don't even bother looking for Zero bullets - waste of time.
They're good bullets, rarely in stock, anywhere - better alternatives
that are in stock all the time.
I thought I remembered reading that in the past somewhere but couldn't quite remember.

I'll revive this in hopes for an answer to this statement. Why is that bullet not good for major?I think he means the .356 38 Super bullets, with them you get an additional discount down to $87, but they are not good for Major.
The 124 precision Delta .356 38 super bullets are fmj definitely good for major not sure where info suggesting otherwise came from?
That was my assumption which is why I was confused when I read that.

can you post a link to where zero bullets can be purchased? I've never had luck finding where ppl buy those bullets.+1 buy in bulk from somewhere like powder valley. Go in with a buddy or make a a large purchase. Once you get to 5k primers and 8 pounds of powder things become more cost effective than local purchases. Places like Precision Delta and Zero offer free shipping once you get over 2k bullets.
-
I will reiterate that I've never had an issue like you're describing. Also Blue Bullets have always been really fast to respond to my emails. Id give them a call and a chance to make right.

I wouldn't say MOST embarrassing but embarrassing enough to share. I sent a goodmorning text to my girlfriends brother yesterday. Obviously intended for his sister... It was very brief and short. Could have been a lot worse if I put more thought into it or was trying to be funny that morning.

Personal preference here I think its the best looking grip. The gun looks complete now that I added the Big Butt.No one has a BB grip because they look cool. They all look hideous. Here are some of mine.
Crap does this mean your going to shoot it better?
I sure do hope so. That was the plan at least.
-
I'm going to go out on a limb here and say minor loads will shoot higher than major in everyone's case. The bullet is traveling slower when shooting minor(obviously) so by the time the bullet leaves, the barrel will have moved upward more than if the bullet was moving faster (major)
At least thats what ive gathered reading up on POI POA on here. Theres some interesting topics that show what im trying to describe here out of revolvers.

Flat socket cap screw is what the screw is called at fasenal. Just ordered 10 the other day. For $11 shipped. Probably could've got it shipped to the store for free but just had it shipped to my house.
