  1. That was when I noticed it still wasn't flush even without the release attached.

Thank you. Like I said with the stock release on=same outcome not flush. Even with no button on at all still the same, not flush. I guess My question was should it be entirely flush or am I being picky? If it should be entirely flush and given that with no button on at all it still isn't flush is this an easy diy-er fix?
  2. And to comment on the release, I think its a much better release than the hogue especially because of the texture. The Hogue design makes your thumb want to slip up because of the direction of the grooves and Daves is awesome plain and simple..

  3. Nice looking cylinder release :D

As others have mentioned, if you take the release off and the bolt still doesn't sit flush with the recoil shield

then either your bolt is too short or there could be some dirt and crud inside the gun limiting the travel of the bolt.

I recently worked on a friends gun and noticed his bolt was a tad under flush of the recoil shield, this gun did

have crud between the bolts face and the back of the recoil shield and once cleaned out it did bring the bolt

out a little more but not enough to make it flush.

I do think these new plunger detent's on the yoke mask a hard opening gun which most of the time can be

traced to a below flush bolt pin.

And IMNSHO, if you do start to wear an egg shaped hole in the frame your problems are only going to get worse from there.

If you have any problems with the cylinder release let me know.

And a ps here, the amount that the pic shows of the bolt not being flush would concern me a lot,

looks like your in my area so if I can help let me know.

(I'm not sure who this is since inter-web names leave me clueless  )

    Hey Dave, Its Dustin.

You saw the gun at a walls of steel match its a 929. You actually noticed it and pointed it out to me and warned me about the potential issue of wearing a notch in the frame. Honesty I wasn't sure if it was normal to feel the slight resistance and didn't really think twice about it till you pointed it out. I filed the front of the release and I thought that would solve the issue but its not your release that is causing it. My plan was to wait till I saw you at a shoot and ask for your opinion on what would cause this because I figured you would know. Im pretty sure dirt isnt the issue because it has done this from the first day I got it and supposedly had under 100 rds fired before I bought it. If I could guess Ive only put about 500 rounds through it.

  4. If you are talking about a S&W: The pin you are referring to is the tip of the bolt. The cylinder release has an oval boss/protrusion that rides in the slot on the left side of the frame. I've had to gently remove some material from the front of the boss on several Hogue extended releases. This will allow the tip of the bolt to be flush with the recoil shield.

Easy check, just remove the cylinder release and note the difference. The bolt (the tip) should be flush with the recoil shield.

    Good luck.

Ok so it sounds like it should be flush. It isn't flush with the release off.
  5. Forgive my incorrect terminology here but I will attempt to describe the issue I am having. The pin that releases the cylinder even when the cylinder release is pushed all the way in does not sit flush so the cylinder is a little rough to pop out. Is there an adjustment I can make or remove material from a certain area to allow the pin to sit flush? Ive only taken the side plate off and havent attempted to take much apart to figure it out but was hoping this is an easy fix??

  6. +1 for the blue bullets (they are made about 12 miles from my house) I've shot about 2800 through my glock 17 factory barrel and they are great. As far as diameter goes, I have not seen any coated bullet manufacturers that offer more than one size. Plenty of cast companies do (dardas etc) but i'm not aware of any coated options on diameter.

Black and Blue bullets offers different sizes and colors on their bullets. Ive never used them though so no comment there.

+1 on blue bullets. Great price, they offer a discount to Benos members and in my testing are awesome accuracy wise. Once you get the dies set so youre not breaking the coating the coated bullets are great. I had terrible accuracy using xtremes. Blue Bullets were much better for me.

  7. After reading this post I felt man enough to tackle this myself. My open gun was done by DonnyGlock and I love it so I wanted to match it. I used jb weld and the three pack of tumbling compound from harbor freight. One of the bags is labeled coarse, that is what I used. Taped it off with blue painters tape and peeled it before fully cured. Thanks for the post and input from everyone else on their experience it helped me a lot and I think mine came out pretty good.

  8. I sent over a copy of my prescription and gave them my Pupilary Distance( or whatever its called) but the frame of the lens and the lens itself is so curved I don't think there is a way around the "fisheye" look with these lenses. ESS was really good customer service wise. I sent them back and should get a refund but who knows how long its going to take. Thanks for the references. Now im leaning towards the Decots..

  9. The curvature of the insert is probably what it is. My regular glasses are almost flat and the insert is really curved. If I didn't go back and forth between the two I would probably be able to adjust to the curved insert. I'm thinking the flatter looking Randolph engineering glasses might suit my need best.

  10. Probably been covered somewhere but I cant find what im looking for.

I got the Ess eye protection with the vise RX insert for shooting and cant stand the fish Eye effect. I had ESS fill my prescription and didn't expect my vision to be so distorted going from regular glasses to the ESS with the inserts. Is this a problem with all prescription safety glasses or just the insert type?

If I brought the insert to an optometrist could they somehow fill the prescription and have it so It doesn't look like I'm in a fish tank?

I used to wear contacts but started wearing my glasses again because the cost of contacts adds up and figured I could get the inserts and would be good to go. Transitioning from my normal glasses to the shooting glasses is very straining on my eyes and I cant get used to the fisheye effect and don't even want to wear these. I ended up paying $175 for the glasses with the inserts and theyre pretty much useless to me. I don't understand why it is so difficult to make the insert look like you are looking through regular glasses??

  11. The guy who allegedly put it together is From what I've read, one of the best out there so If I can get in touch with him I don't think anyone else would be a better person to look at it. Thanks for the advice though all and any input is welcome :)
