    My quest

Well an update on my training. Working hard on dry fire skills. Did a few hundred rounds live fire yesterday. What I have taken away from these drills....... 1) I need a TON of practice on catching the sights upon my draw. They are there but taking me SO long to find them! Any good drills to help me on this??????? 2) there is a major delay in acquiring the sights on a double tap. Need to learn to shoot with a cadence instead of bang bang,,,,bang bang. It needs to be bang, bang, bang, bang 3) need to learn to slow down and don't over shoot my sights. I seem to speed up as I go and end up with deltas and mikes instead of shooting those Alphas That is the few things I can recognize myself. Hoping I can get someone at the match this weekend to video tape me so I can break it down more. On a good note! My core classifier dry fire skills are greatly and I mean greatly improving! Since I started my training I have shaved almost a full second off of my times on several drills with an overall average on all drills with a decrease of .8 I am stoked!
  4. I have never used Slide Glide sorry benos does it work like froglube and such? I was thinking of ordering some at the beginning of the month any more info would be great
  5. In every other sport I participated in the bare necessities was covered every day. Hence why I suggested the beginning drills in the front of Steves book. But, if you think of it almost all the drills involve draw, reload and such so you are correct by working on the things that are giving you "fits" at matches.
  6. I use Steve Anderson's book. I would do at least the first 7 drills in that book. Mainly draws, reloads, and sight pictures. Do the basics IMHO but then again I am fairly new to the sport
  7. Thank you so much! Shooting my first match this weekend and I found this most informative!
  8. I would love to check this out!
  9. Prayers and thoughts to the family and friends.
  10. What are you getting for turn and draw times? 1.4 seconds on this Live fire Bill Drill time is 5.45 which was my best. 5.55 is the average though. So I see a ton more that I can do to improve just watching those videos. Also, looking into the rest of Steve Andersons books might as well get them all and follow along! Is there any video packages that Any would suggest. I like youtube but they don't go into depth as much as I would like. I have an old Burkett video series that was given to me that had Mr. Enos in it also but was thinking a more up to date one. Again any and all suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

    My quest

Here is another question. To those that have taken classes on competitive shooting did you find them beneficial? Were you able to videotape them so you could use it as a reference? There is a GM shooter in my area that offers classes and have been considering taking a few lessons from him. Any info on this would be appreciated!
  12. I will go over all this post more I get home. I do every drill in Steve Anderson's first book every night. Well I split them up drill 1-22 in the morning then I do 1-13 and 23- the end in the evening. I am working hard! About the "bounce" I have been talking to Steve Moneypenny on Facebook and he has been helping me through there. He is one hell of a nice guy! But, if you look at my YouTube page you will see what I am talking about. Again once I get home I will do a video and show you my progress trying to do at least one a week. Thank you so much for those videos I will check them out also!
  13. I am so sorry friend you and your whole family will be in my thoughts and prayers
  14. They make excellent slide conversions to take a 19 frame with a 17 or a 34 slide on it. I like it. I have smaller hands and have a h*ll of a time getting around the full size guns. I plan on making one like this here is the link to Lone Wolf they are the ones who make it. http://www.lonewolfdist.com/Products.aspx?CAT=255 This way you can just swap the slides and switch between classes if you want to shoot multiple ones. I want to use my 19 for production and ssp and switch over to the conversion for open. Save some money I would think. Wonder if I would have to work up 2 different loads for these
  15. Thank you 1SOW and zjmccauley I will try that out. Looking up right now what indexing a magazine is.

    My quest

Actually Jack did that this evening and did rather well! I was about half a second slower contributing that to recoil and also first time trying to go fast. Thank you for the encouragement!

    My quest

Been dry practicing at home. I am a very new shooter to the world of competitive shooting. Got my hands on Steve Anderson's book and I am rolling. My initial par times were horrid! I started all this on 9/28/2014 and my par times have dropped over a second on some of the drills but most I average .8 second decrease in skills. I have done every drill in the book every day except Sunday's. And see myself seeing the target better every day!
  18. Thank you for the advice i didnt realize that!
  19. i have been doing them with a timer but alas i use an old iphone app and used my phone to record also. i have been following Steve Andersons book. my draw is down to 1.1 that came down from 2.6 in just a week. my only problem is all the ranges here i can practice at currently do not allow you to draw from the holstwr so it is all straight dry fire. thank you for reappnding yes i plan to shoot USPSA Production I plan on getting better holster for the next "season" around here th Thank you so much! i am anxious for next weekend as it will be my first match. Plan on taking it slow and getting A hits. ere is only 1 maybe 2 more matches until March. About the height of my belt you might be correct after looking again i had a pair of lounge pants on. it looks about 3 inches high. and thank u for the advise on the surrender draw great point!
  20. hello I am a new shooter. with that said I have had the help of a great gentleman on Facebook whom is making a comeback and he has given me some great advice! What I am looking for is others also. here is a video on some drills that have been giving me fits. could you please help me and let me know what i am doing right and also especially what i need to improve on! Thanks a ton!
  21. Steve I want to thank you for helping me out on Facebook! I will get rid of that "bounce" lol
  22. i was RO ing the squad behind you y'all were a lot of fun to watch
  23. I just looked through my log from last Sunday to this I dropped on average.4 on each of the drills in Steve Anderson's book. So back to your original question yes I believe it helps a ton! Also was at the range and for the first time I could finally track the sights with my eyes!!!!
