  1. Some in stock at Pdhsc today. 40's I think. 2 stainless, a 5.4, some sight trackers. Different grip styles. I got some shopping done:
  2. Yeah it's low rent right now! If I decide to keep it for sure I'll get it done!
  3. I put an aftec in it and is working great.
  4. Mine has settled in and run without issue the last couple of range sessions. I had replaced the extractor soon after I got it which cured failure to extract. I had some initial failure to feed, but that has gone away it seems. The only negative thing I have to say now is I wish the racker could be useful on the left side of the gun. Trigger is around 2 pounds now - very nice. I put a larger magwell on it and it grips well. Feels very light all around - swings and stops pretty quick. I'm a major SVI fan but I would not bad talk this gun. Stills seems overall like a strong package to me.
  5. No infinitys in stock there now but word is a delivery is coming this week. Last set not a single one made it to the shelf - all sold right away. If you are interested it would pay to call and see if they are getting what you want and if it is available.
  6. For USPSA, we got a couple of these for our backpacks and the value proposition is quite high. Has a fold out seat useful for loading mags or taking a break too. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B006JTRBCQ?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00
  7. I like the EOTech form factor, but you may want to read the admissions in this settlement just made between L3 and the government regarding EOTech. http://www.justice.gov/usao-sdny/file/796026/download
  8. You guys hit a home run (again) with this one. Lots of topics from breaking stages down to how shooting ebbs and flows in your life. Very quick hour - hope you guys connect with Chris again.
  9. There's a lot of good information in this wide ranging interview. Very well done. http://www.triangletactical.net/2015/10/26/uspsa-national-champion-chris-tilley/
  10. dry tumble and then put a little one shot lube on before they hit the hopper. But thanks for the tip; that primer slide is the low wire right now and if changing tumbling tactics helps I'll give it a go!
  11. I’ve got the ammo plant. I doubt mine is the best running. My experience is overall similar to the other guys. At first it was very, very frustrating. Now it’s just mildly frustrating. It’s almost never not frustrating (something jamming, tipping, etc.). The case feeder works pretty well, but it does just what the other posters say. Jams up top, case tips on way into the shell plate, but still better than doing it by hand. The bullet feeder works great (I’m loading 9mm only jhp only). It’s a superb aid to efficiency. It is, however, one of the loudest sources of man-made noise on the planet. I’ve put foam in the top of it with only a small opening to dump in more bullets and I put material in the hopper itself to dampen the bullet on noise magnifying plastic effect. It’s almost tolerable but not quite. So, I wear earphones when I load and that takes care of that, and should help with hearing retention when a primer kicks off. On the press, I had to make a pawl adjustment and also adjusted the depth of the balls that spring into the detents for indexing. This allows the plate to rotate without kicking powder out. The powder drop works very well and is very consistent (after polishing). I use a U die for 38 super comp and have a powder cop so I seat and crimp in one step. When the press is making ammo, the ammo is very consistent. The primer system jams up sometimes. I have an air compressor nearby and blow out the shell plate and where the primer slide goes back and forth in the hope of increasing time between jams. I did many of the youtube tricks to get the thing running better, and those have helped. For the initial money, you get a lot. And you can change calibers quickly – it’s all very modular. I’m glad I have it and it works well enough to support the shooting I do. Legends say there are those who have managed to bring the Ammo Plant to a state of steady, consistent functioning but that nirvana eludes me. I cannot imagine the ammo plant ever running automatically like a 1050. The fact the 1050 has an actual market for automation tells me it’s in a completely different performance category than the Ammo Plant. When the Ammo Plant is singing along you realize you are in a temporary sweet spot and entropy is about to curb stomp any reduction in blood pressure or feeling of harmony you may be enjoying.
  12. As well, I've put a couple hundred rounds of major in practice now with no flaws of any kind. Hopefully I'll shoot a match with it next month.
  13. I heard (but can't confirm) the accuracy issue is what did in the DVC Open at Nats. I don't know what would cause that on this gun in particular, but I can say when I took out the mount screws to add on a thumb rest they were the loosest of any I've ever taken off. I put them back with some lock-tite.
  14. I'm using 38 Super Comp - last session was all new starline brass run through a U die. 125 grain zero JHP. Mimic OAL of AA but not the PF (I put 9.3 grains of 3N38 and that gets around 170PF). Keep in mind I put a lighter recoil spring in the gun and that may have something to do with the FTF, but I'll shoot another session before changing anything else around. It ran the last 100-120 or so without any issues.
  15. I've put a larger magwell on the dvc and took it out to shoot yesterday with about 200 rounds. It had a couple of failures to feed early but none in the last 100 or more rounds. Still working on it. I lost some time on the draw compared to the gun I'm used to but not surprised about that. What was surprising is the gun seems to shoot very flat and very controlled. Maybe the work they did up front on the comp and slide do have an effect. Also I had put in a lighter recoil spring. Next time I'll take a gun to directly compare but I was very pleased in how the gun tracked.
  16. Below on the right is a pic of the factory DVC extractor and on the left the Dawson for comparison. I switched out to an aftec to cure the extraction drama.
  17. Very cool. I think you'll like it as a package. I've got some bugs to work out but I'm still happy with it. Anyway chime in after you do some shooting with it and let us know how it works and what you think. Im going to shoot this one a few times this week and get a feel for it.
  18. Just guessing but I bet that AA major ammo is pushing mid 170's PF. It should feed fine; it has with all my other open guns. But anyway, it's an issue I'm working on too. My ammo is the same OAL and bullet as the AA major - I load to adjust PF for each gun though the AA makes about 169-170 out of the Tanfo 38 super so I use it in that. Accuracy is nice on the DVC. The grip is very well done. Being a fairly long gun with a pretty good comp on it, it doesn't jump much. Sorry not much practical observations - I just haven't had time to work with it much.
  19. Compared to the Trubor, it’s a nicely upgraded piece. It’s in line with the Dawson Signature IMO. It’s not an Infinity. Let’s break that down. As mentioned, the Infinity trigger is simply fantastic. The one I have is well used (mostly not by me) and was set up to be great rather than a production piece and it is well ahead. How much practical difference that may make I don’t know but a fine trigger is worth noting. However, the DVC trigger is ready to go out of the box even if it’s not at a truly hand tuned level. The magwell nod goes to the Infinity as well (at least the one I’ve got), as the larger unit supports my hand during gripping better and is a more generous target for reloads. The Infinity grip wins for me. The shape of it really encourages the hand to ride very high in the grip. It’s a slightly different shape that makes a Also, no grip safety is a plus in my book.
  20. The compensator is slightly changed from the Trubor; mostly just a couple of extra slots on the side. Here’s the Dawson, a Trubor, the DVC Open, and an SVI:
  21. The stippling and undercuts are well done. Next to a Dawson Signature Series: The gun came with a 140 and a 170 magazine. That’s a decent upgrade and it’s appreciated. Brazos is a first class vendor as well, I have to say. I took it out to fire, but it was sprung pretty strong and the 9.3 grain of 3n38 I use on the Dawson was not enough to cycle the gun, so it was shoot one rack one so I put it back in the case after about 10 shots. However, the gun did come sighted in very close, which was nice as well. For the hell of it, a shot next to Tanfo’s. How’s the trigger? About even with the Trubor in which I had installed a trigger upgrade kit from Brazos. So that makes it pretty nice. I didn’t measure it, but it’s much lighter than the stock Trubor – I can’t see doing anything more to than using it at this point. It’s not the glass-breaking nirvana of the Infinity trigger, but that Infinity has a lot of rounds through it and it is super light and crisp – perfection (the real kind). The racker borders on great. The ball detents mean easy on and off, and easy switch to either side. The racker is textured well and it’s a good size; the only improvement I’d like is for it to be angled up like the Infinity.
  22. I’ve got one and also am working to get it running. I ran 170pf ammo (same OAL and bullet as AA ammo) but was having extraction problems. Perhaps tuning the extractor would have fixed that but I thought the gap between the extractor and the breach was too much so I put an aftec in and that cured the extraction issue. I’m having some malfs on feeding. I polished the ramp and that seemed to improve it, though maybe just shooting some would help. I also put a lighter spring in and maybe it would feed better with the original. Anyway, I figure a little more work in that department and hopefully it will be ready to go. Trigger is 2 and a half pounds out of the box. Below are some initial impressions I posted on another forum: Just got in a DVC Open I ordered several months ago. Here’s the first impression. Overall the quality looks good. The finish, both the barrel and the gun, is not as shiny as some pictures had indicated and to me that’s good. No blemishes on the outside. When I stripped it, there was a burr on the slide on a hole that had been milled. A quick filing ended that issue. Lock up is tight; the slide is tight, just as it should be on a new gun. Here it is next to a Trubor: It does come with a threaded mag release on which I installed a button. The tool-free guide rod is standard too:
  23. Great thought there. Lots of factory loads available in Carry Optics (and for reasonable pricing!) and the tinkering factor goes down dramatically.
  24. The Atlanta Arms is going major in the V8 I have but it's under on the Infinity (but way over on the Dawson). It'd be dicey buying the gun on the premise that AAA will safely get you to major. I had lots of reasons not to reload but I do to get 38 SC for the guns I've got. Once set up with a progressive, loading up the ammo takes very little time. My backup plan was find someone local who would do the reloading for me (but now I don't mind it) - I would research that before banking on AAA. It might work for the gun, but it might not. If you really want major and you really want a GT and you really don't want to reload, my advice is find someone local who will do it for you. With the cost of brass for 38 Super being what it is, AAA's price for their stuff to me is fair.
