  1. Shooting a bunch of locals don't help too much after a point. I recommend for every 3 practice sessions shooting one match. (Something around that) Go train a bunch, then see the match improvements. Practice over everyyyyyything. And....of course go shoot majors.
  2. I'm not an expert by any means but I see a trend. My light guns are jumpy and my heavier guns are softer. I like to have the feeling of a solid, heavy gun in my hands. Light open guns with that much pressure and all feels like a toy. I'd honestly just stop playing around and buy an Akai. They're fairly heavy, but shoot the flattest and most accurately. When I say heavy, they really aren't. The weight comparatively to a DVC is more, but it swings and feels the same. The weight is in the right places and feels like an extension of my body.
  3. I really don't see that big of a difference. My friend Hawansik Kim is killing it with a PPQ. At the end of the day shooting is just a good sight picture and trigger pull.
  4. Yes and no. Here's what you need to do in practice: see things faster It does you no good to shoot super accurately or super crazy. You need to try to push how fast you see and interpret information. If you really struggle to go faster you can do the following: Pick a cadence on an array of targets and shoot that cadence no matter if you're ready to shoot it or not. Try that out and let me know how it works CS
  5. haha, just saw this. This was a fun match bro
  6. I used to shoot about 3 locals a month. Just about a year ago I found that this was a waste of time to truly progress. I went to these matches to of course, have fun but I truly thought that I was improving by going to them. This past year I only shot on average one match a year (usually a major) I substituted this lack of matches with 3-4 practice sessions. This helped me immensely, reaching my shooting goals this summer. (make gm and win an area match)
  7. I try to keep the same holster position and magazine position by picking spots on me that never move. For example, my holster is finger tip length in front of my hip bone, and my magnet is a finger tip length away from my belly button. Also, whenever traveling and I need to take things off, I put a line of tape on it. Hope this helps
  8. I've been using Techwear for years. Great material and graphics. There are other companies that make cheaper ones, but in my opinion don't make them as well.
  9. Shooting majors is a great experience. You'll come back super motivated to train and know what to work on to improve. Do your research: know the match schedule, shoot times, squad numbers, get there a day early to walk stages, and come prepared. Have FUN!
  10. I personally like a fairly light steel gun and heavy uspsa gun. Steel Challenge has so many transitions that a heavy gun will slow you down. We are talking thousands of seconds between winner and loser in steel, so those small saving on transitions with a light gun count. In USPSA, shooting major (or just midegating minor recoil) you want a sturdy gun. I'm not saying to build a super heavy gun, I'm just saying that I don't want a toy. I shot a super light bidell open gun and then switched to an Akai open gun. I don't see a differnece in transition speed, but I do see a lot less recoil with the gun. Part of that is from the akai engineering, and part is the weight.
  11. Google sketch up works really well. You can download a template or various props and stage pieces.
  12. I've had a Glock 34 for a little more than a year now, with no replacement parts other than switching out a striker spring. What will break or need replacement? I don't want to have anything give way in a big match. Anyone have any experience with parts breaking? Thanks, Chris
  13. Hi, I am going to buy a Benelli Vinci for 3-gun competitions, and I am wondering what magazine tube extension to but on it. Any suggestions? Thanks
  14. Hi, I'm new, so probably a dumb question. Are Magpul Glock 17 mags legal for USPSA Production division, and are they good quality?
  15. Should I used a red or green front sight pipe for my glock 34?
  16. Hi, What sights do you recommend for competitive shooting with a Glock 34? It would be nice if they were adjustable because right now mine is pushed all the way to the right. Thanks for the advice!
  17. Does it even benefit a Glock mag? or only metal mags?
  18. Has anyone ever tried KRUNCH PRODUCTS - MAG SLICK, and do you like it? Thanks, Chris
  19. Hi Jordan, I recommend using the Invictus Practical 2.8 Eight Plates. http://www.invictuspractical.com/8ight-plates.html They're made of metal, not plastic. This is one of the features that sets IP apart from all the other brands. The other shell caddy competitors use plastic that breaks and does not hold the shells as well. You can either quad load or load two. This is a great, easy to learn method for beginners or season vets. If you want some solid shell caddies that will last forever and will not let you down, then I would check out Invictus Practical. They make some great stuff. Hope this helps, Chris
  20. I recently got a Mossberg 930 JM Pro for 3-Gun, and I shot it for 6 months in competition. Recently, when I was practicing reloading, I went to rack a dummy round out from the mag tube, and the bolt locked back. When I would press the bolt release, shells would shoot out of the mag tube. To top that off, the trigger housing seems really loose. Is that the source of my problems? I have dropped it off at my local gunsmith, but it will take 2 months to get it fixed. Does anyone know what the problem is? Thanks
  21. Great work, you are shooting great! The only thing that I could tell you would be to stop the gun on every target, and go for one for one hits. From some experience, I could tell you that shooting one, well aimed bullet at the target is WAY faster that two fast shots. Keep up the great work! Chris
  22. I have been shooting my Mossberg 930 JM Pro for a couple of months with no problems. When I practiced loading shells today, I had some malfunctions. I would load the tube on an empty chamber and load into the mag tube. I would rack the shells out, but the bolt was stuck back and the shell would not feed. I recently filed out my loading gate, but have not extended the carrier. What is the problem? Thanks, Chris
  23. Borrow or use what you have. At my first 3-Gun, I used a 3-power fixed scope on a crappy Ar-15, 9mm handgun with a defensive holster, and a 4 shot pump shotgun. Had a blast! Don't go buy stuff without testing it and trying other options. A good shotgun for beginners or the pros (Jerry Miculek) a Mossberg 930 JM Pro. It comes with everything you need and is under 700$. Hope this helps. Chris
  24. I have been dry firing every day to improve my handgun shooting. I just read on Glock's FAQ's that for continuous dry fire, snap caps are recommended. Is this true? If so, what are some cheap 9mm snap caps that will last forever? Thanks
