  1. mcb Berry's does make a 180gr real round nose bullet for .40/10mm It's what I use in my 610 and have had great results Check out his link: http://www.berrysmfg.com/271.php --Jerry
  2. Walt has worked real hard to improve his skills with a wheelgun and to get classified. He's been improving every match and his recent classifier scores are approching "C" class and as a side note he got classified Revolver faster than L-10. It's also been great to have some company in Revolver Div. at the matches. Good Job Walt !!
  3. Yea, I know just a couple days ago I said I was sticking with the 610 and trying to find another for a back up ...... Well, realization finally hit that waiting for a 5" 610 to come my way wasn't gonna happen and with prices for the 4" & 6 1/2" barreled versions are more than a new 625 are, said to hell with it. I found a brand new 5" 625 at Sportsmans Warehouse and bought it. First off, I still think the 610 is a great revolver, but only because it's chambered in 10mm/40sw -- two really great cartridges. The unfluted cylinder is what I don't like, especially after checking out a 5" fluted cylinder 610 2 weeks ago someone had at the range -- very nice. And he said no way was he gonna sell it Now only if S&W would bring that version back...... ya right<_< Now that I finally got a 625 in my hands (only got to briefly check out Dan's last Aug.) I now understand why they're so highly regarded. A bit lighter than my 610, especially in the cylinder and do like the longer barrel, which balances really well. So I got to get the hammer bobbed, trigger stop installed DAO, springs installed & action polished. Then get dies, brass, bullets, moonclips, ect ordered and a load worked up. Should have it done by the time my shoulder heals. When the 625 is ready, the 610 will go back to S&W for some warrenty work (wear from competition) after that will keep it as back up for now. Any other suggestions?? Just let me know --Jerry
  4. Good job on the match and sticking with it Welcome to Revolver Division
  5. Yes, you can shoot 10mm without clips, the only problem might extracting them. But you'll at least be able to shoot 6 Take a short dowel with you, so you can knock the empties out. Have fun
  6. Hey nice revolver Being that my only IPSC gun is a 610, Imay be able to help you some. For bullets: Berry's plated 180gr RN, these have been working great and the price is also great. Just order directly from the factory, shipping is included in the price. As far as a cylinder latch: I really like the new one from SDM (the angled one), the checkering is deep & sharp and really grabs your thumb. I use a weak hand reload also and found (for me) the Ed Brown sets too far back and the factory one is too slick. For moonclips, I've used RIMZ, the 610 version are made of a denser/stiffer material than the ones for the 25/625. I've had quite a few stepped on and I've only had to throw away two and they are inexpensive: 5 @ $6 through Brownells. I recently got some clips from Hearthco which I'll try out when my shoulder heals, but they have a good fit and should work out well. You'll like the 610, it's a great revolver, up until my last match (2 1/2 weeks ago) I was going to get a 625. Now I'm going to stick with the 610 and I'm looking for a second one, perferably a 5" fluted, but would get another 4". With practice, my reloads have smoothed out and though the 625 maybe faster to reload, probably not enough to make a difference. Just practice your ass off and you'll be fine with it. But make sure you get RN bullets and chamber the charge holes, this is very important with the 610. Good luck and have fun Jerry
  7. Dan, What the others said....top of the blade, I find it more accurate on steel and distance shots. This is why I went back to a gold bead, with the FO (SDM) I had a hard time doing this, kept wanting to aim POI. I'm now thinking of giving a black partridge try as I think I can be even more accurate. Jerry
  8. Will since this got bumped up, guess I should give a update. Surgery went well, doctor removed a large bone spur off the end of my clavicle (collarbone), had to make a 1 1/2" incision. Already out of the sling most of the time, slowly starting be able to move it with out any pain. I start PT Tuesday. Thanks to some taunting from D Carden, been dry-firing the 610 couple times a day and after seeing Walts match results yesterday, it's probably a good thing. He really made some improvement, I may actually have some competition when I come back...cool ---Jerry
  9. Hey Husker, You've already been given real good advice on the above revolvers....isn't this place great You mentioned "casual shooting & steel matches", if that means you don't plan on doing IPSC, you might look at the 620. I started out doing steel with a 686+, but when I used my 66 I found I could transistion a bit quicker between plates, fiqured this was due to the half-lug barrel. Liked the 7 shots of the 686+ & the half lug barrel of the 66, so when Walt offered his 620 in trade for my 66 I thought "Cool, I have my steel gun". I bobbed the hammer, DAO, smoothed out the action & springs, got to try it out this last Sunday and did my best steel match ever It does have the 2 piece barrel, which many haven't welcomed yet, but I've found it just as accurate as my 686. It's not going to be as comfortable to shoot magnums in as the 686 due to the half-lug barrel, so that's one thing to keep in mind. Good luck in your search and take your time, -- Jerry
  10. Ya Right, He's just looking for a excuse to go shoot his blaster That's ok, he's not the only one.....ask Dan what he shot at the range today Hint: it didn't have a cylinder
  11. Whatever, Everyone has their own reason for playing this sport My reason --- to compete with a revolver, to see how good I could get with one. Since the Revolver Div. is without a doubt the most challenging in USPSA/IPSC, it's not surprising that there is so few who stick with it. That's too bad your thinking of dropping out, because that'll be one less experienced wheelgunner to be a example to others willing to give it a try, which is what will grow or at least keep the division alive. Your choice.....you have to do what you feel is right for yourself One other thing -- TO HELL WITH THE CLASSIFIERS & CLASSIFICATION SYSTEM Just have fun ----Jerry
  12. Thanks everyone, Well Rob, quess you & I will be sitting on the bench watching the other's play for a while huh. Hope it goes well for you Dave, thought about the strong hand drill......just haven't fiqured out the one hand reload yet any suggestions? But I can at least do Steel matches if I can get someone to load for me between strings........Walt, hey bud what do you think ? Thanks again ---- Keep the wheels turning ----Jerry
  13. Thanks Hop Firm believer in physical therapy ...... wouldn't know I broke my foot 2yrs ago -- just like new. Good idea, Walt could use a little education from Dan..... ..... as long as Dan keeps him away from the tupperware
  14. Talk about leading by example......way to go Mike Stuff like this makes you proud to be a wheelgunner Congratulations Cliff .....been hanging around Dan lately ? ..... must a glock virus going around infecting wheelgunners
  15. Got to have surgery on my left shoulder to repair some damage from a old injury from my whitewater kayaking days thats been bothering me for a while. Surgery is Oct.7th, which means I'll probably miss all the IPSC matches (3) here in Oct. The good news is that it should give Walt S. some time to improve his game some, so he doesn't get STOMPED so bad the next time we compete Sorry Walt couldn't resist ---Jerry Edited because I wrote the wrong freaking month
  16. I warned you Dan, it wasn't a good thing going off to the Safety Area to check out those glocks at the CCS match....... then you bought one Now looked what's happening........your screwed dude Watch out ..... more incoming
  17. Mike, I checked out a 646 (PC barrel &Ti cyl) before and I agree - too light for IPSC Major. I was thinking more like a 686 (full-lug barrel) except in 40sw. I think this would be a great set-up and by offering cartridges people are using in their auto's in a revolver, it might make it more attractive for them to try revolver division. Right there is really only one choice -- 625, now that the 610 is discontinued. We need more choices and at reasonable prices. Nothing fancy, just all steel & moonclipped in popular pistol cartridges with the weight to reasonably handle major pf. Just a thought ---Jerry Nice revolver Just noticed yours is a full lug barrel, hadn't seen one like that. Does it have the Ti cylinder?
  18. Actually, the K frame was only dropped for the 357Mag, it's still being made for the 38spl & 22lr. I think the 9mm would be a good idea for the K frame & 40 s&w for the L frame. Both moonclipped & reasonably priced, might be just the thing to help grow the revolver division. --- Jerry
  19. "I'm going to kick Jerry V's butt " OTFLMAO Wake up Walt ...... Your Dreaming ......... Time to come back to Reality I actually think you DQ'ed on purposed ..... the pressure was just way too much to handle Next time try not to bail out so early .. now go out to the garage and practice some more ...... you'll need it ----- Jerry
  20. Walt, I don't think you have to worry about not being considered a wheelgunner, I've always considered you one since I met you at the IPSC Safety Class where you used a revolver and you also shot your first IPSC match with a revolver, so you've always been a wheelgunner, you just strayed a bit, but now your back and your doing great. In fact, I think you shoot a revolver better now than you did with your auto To everyone : Walt made great progress Sat., I was very impressed. He went from about a 10-12sec. reload to 6sec with CompIII speedloaders and new to him revolver. He just needs to work on his accuracy a little more and he'll be kicking some serious butt ---- Jerry
  21. Congratulations Spook, It's good to see Jerry M get seriously challenged which means he'll push what can be done with a revolver to the next level and there's nothing wrong with that
  22. Don't you feel better now Walt? I knew you were really a wheelgunner all this time. Looks like we've doubled Revolver Div. at Tri-Co now, just need to work on the other "closet" wheelgunners there. Walt, to get you started with something better than the 620 (for IPSC) I'll let you borrow my modified 66 (bobbed hammer, trigger stop & DAO), 7 CompIII speedloaders & 200 plated 158gr RN 38spl loads to use at our next IPSC match. I still hope to meet you at the range Friday, you can give it a try then and take it home with you to practice. Welcome to Revolver Division ----- Jerry
  23. Randy, What's the chance S&W would make parts available to allow us to customize existing revolvers. Such as Ti cylinders, barrels and forged parts that competitors for the most would only be interested in. As a example, I'd like to modify my 610 with a Ti cylinder (I'd just be happy if could get a fluted one), 5" full lug barrel and perhaps forged cylinder stop. Just a thought. One other thought -- a L framed 40sw with a 5"full lug barrel would be really cool --- Jerry
  24. Sixshot -- Don't fall for Dan's "must of shot too fast or something" on the classifier
  25. Good Job Mike Way to go !!!!!! ---- the rookie
