  1. plan4, the 1.19 OAL you cite is for an H&G 130 profile bullet, not the 68 profile. Think of it as a wad cutter with a little bump on the nose.
  2. My experience with TS mags has been the opposite of Whoops. I ordered an additional mag with the pistol and later ordered four of the CZC extended bases. 20 rounds was enough for me, so I intended to use the stock springs and followers. Even after all the smoothing and deburring recommended by CZC, I still could only get one mag to hold 20, and on two of them the follower would get stuck in the base pad and require a screwdriver to twist the follower so it would unstick. I sent everything down to Stuart. He exchanged springs and followers and basically mixed and matched until he found the right combo. Even so, he had to sand one follower to get it to work. After a month or so I noticed that one of the mags would not drop when empty. I discovered the follower was cocking so that the high side was even higher and at an angle. That caused the mag to stick. As it turned out, it was the mag with the sanded follower. I replaced the factory spring and follower with the recommended CZC 21 round units and the problem disappeared. Even though it will reload 21, I only put 20 in it. It continues to function flawlessly. The only minor quibble I'd have was the new follower made loading the first round manually a little harder. I use all 4 of my mags all the time to even out wear. I have noticed the remaining factory followers are starting to cock as well. When they get bad enough, i'll replace them with CZC guts or possibly the Gramm's units.
  3. Thanks for the 320 info Hogrider. When you chrono, record the temperature. As you chrono throughout the year you can determine how temp sensitive the powder is.
  4. plan4, you have to be very careful when using the Caldwell chrono, and more so than other digital, light operated chronos. With any of them, the best operating scenario is to place the unit in the shade where the sun screens have an unobstructed view of the sky. Direct sunlight on the sensing ports messes up the readings- a little on my Pro Digital and a lot on the Caldwell. Additionally, if direct sunlight falls on only one sensor of the Caldwell, the unit returns wacky numbers or just repeats the last good velocity reading. You are much, much better off using the IR LED screens with the unit in total shade.
  5. I shoot a Sig Tacops 1911 45 ACP and I load TC (Truncated Cone) bullets to 1.200" COL. They are accurate at lower velocities than RN and never fail to feed. The RNFP bullets are very similar to the TC. I prefer the 200gr bullets, but the 230gr TC makes an awesome pin round.
  6. Sorry Hogrider, no experience with N320. I was going to try it until I found out it is just as temperature sensitive as N310. Since Solo 1000 is no where near as temp sensitive and is essentially equivalent to N320, I'll continue to use it. BTW, when you chrono you will find out that the velocities listed in the VV Reloading manual are a figment of some marketing type's overactive imagination.
  7. I have shot many, many thousand 200 SWC though by 1911, and on rare occasions I get a FTF. For that reason I prefer TCPB bullets for competition other that Bullseye. Loaded to 1.200" they never fail to feed. Between 200 and 230 I prefer the 200 because I'm back on target faster.
  8. 3.8gr VV N310 behind a 200 LSWC is a soft shooting and accurate minor load. I use it for Bullseye. That being said, several of the poppers and plates at our club activate other targets and have to be hit hard to go down quickly. A hit with a 144PF 9mm does not always do the trick and you are better off double tapping. A solid hit from a 170PF 45ACP does the trick immediately, and double taps are not much slower at all. If you want to stay minor, I'd recommend PFs higher than 155 for just that reason.
  9. I have experimented with a lot of powders for 45ACP. It would take too long to list them all, but here are the best and worst. Bullseye loads with 200 LSWC in order of preference: N310, WST, American Select, Clays/Clay Dot. Still experimenting with e3. Major power Factor: Solo 1000. I have not liked anything slower than Solo 1000 including PB, although N340 comes close. Hates: 700X (ugh), Titegroup (double ugh), Bullseye (dirty)
  10. I have four for you, and two of them are for a powder you have on hand. 1. 4.1gr VV N310, WLP, Nosler 185gr jacketed hollow Point loaded to 1.200". Stunningly accurate at 50 yards. 2. 4.0gr VV N310, WLP, H&G #68 LSWCBB loaded to 1.240". Tack driver Bullseye load just under Major. 3. 4.9gr Solo 1000, WLP, LTCPB loaded to 1.200". Makes Major and super accurate. SD 6.43. 5.0gr also terrific @ 172PF. 4. 4.9gr Solo 1000, WLP, H&G #68 LSWCBB loaded to 1.240". Amazing 50 yard load and super consistent. 5.0gr just as good. Note: the CCI 300 primer can be substituted for the WLP in load 4 with few fps loss of velocity and a slight increase of SD to 7.72 from 7.42. All loads listed consistently provide SDs under 8.0 for 10 or 20 shot strings. I have also been experimenting with e3 for 45 ACP, but do not have enough data to form an opinion yet. Clays and Clay Dot also make very fine loads. My 1911 has a definite preference for 200gr bullets, so I've stopped playing with the 185s. However, two loads did stand out. 5.0gr Solo 1000 and 185 H&G #68 LSWCBB was accurate as was 3.8gr Clays. SDs for the Solo load were under 11.
  11. Call CZ Custom. When I ordered mine the web site showed none in stock. However, they had three or four in stock the back room and sent mine out the next day. Web sites are not always kept up to date.
  12. I gave up on the lead 155gr bullets because I could not get good SDs and accuracy in the Minor range. I have had considerably better results with 175 LSWC and 180 LTC bullets. In my CZ75 TS using those bullets and e3 powder with CCI 500 primers loaded to 1.126", results are terrific. For Minor I have gone as low as 2.8gr and as high as 3.1. Chrono results for the 3.1 with 175 (10 shot string) load were: average velocity 854fps, PF 149, SD 9.53. Same load with the 180 yielded 844fps, PF 149, SD 8.88. Results for the 2.8gr load, same components but a 20 shot string were: 175gr- 797fps, PF 139, SD 9.86. 180gr- 773fps, PF139, SD 6.75. Both loads were very accurate, but the 2.8 /180 load is a tack driver. I get similar results with those two bullets loaded to major. The only difference is I see no difference in accuracy between the two bullets.
  13. Here is some data another shooter received from the manufacturer. Data is for a 4" barrel. No COL was given and no bullets specified. Hope this helps. Caliber: .40 S&W. Barrel length: 4” Powder: Accurate – Solo 1000 Bullet weight: 135 grains. Start load: 4.8 grains (1100 – 1200 ft/p/sec) Maximum load: 5.3 grains (1175 – 1275 Ft/p/sec). Bullet weight: 155 grains. Start load: 4.3 grains (900 – 1000 ft/p/sec) Maximum load: 4.8 grains (1000 – 1100 Ft/p/sec). Bullet weight: 165-170 grains. Start load: 4.2 grains (850 – 925 ft/p/sec) Maximum load: 4.6 grains (950 – 1050 Ft/p/sec). Bullet weight: 180 grains. Start load: 4.0 grains (825 – 875 ft/p/sec) Maximum load: 4.5 grains (900 – 950 Ft/p/sec). Bullet weight: 200 grains. Start load: 3.7 grains (800 – 850 ft/p/sec) Maximum load: 4.1 grains (875 – 920 Ft/p/sec).
  14. KOBT, I looked at the Manny Bragg Magnetic but it didn't show a listing for a TS, only a Shadow. Which model did you order? Neomet, the issues were with the follower sticking in the extended basepad and getting stuck, and with capacity. Stuck followers needed a screwdriver inserted to twist the follower so it would pop out. Two of the mags would only hold 19. Even after I deburred and polished all the places CZC told me to I could not get all but one to work. CZC replaced spring and followers by mixing and matching and still had to trim one follower to get it to work. That follower worked for about 8 weeks. Now it is not properly captured by the feed lips when empty and tilts up one one side so the mag will not drop free. I replaced it with a CZC +1 follower and spring and the problem disappeared. The mag now reloads 21. The only difference is it is now harder to manually insert the first round.
  15. The CZC extended base pads will get you to 20 rounds with the standard spring and follower; however, they don't all work and tweaking is necessary. I didn't go the Grams route, because he said he would not guarantee the slide would lock back after the last round. He said he would not take them back if they didn't. The 21 round CZC follower and 10 coil spring work great and do not require tweaking. I have both, although I still only load 20 rounds. As the standard followers and springs need replacing, I switch to the CZC units. I'd like to try the Grams, but slide lock is a must. So unless any of you tell me your Grams kit do lock the slide back all of the time, I'm not willing to gamble.
  16. Bart, I recently faced the same decision you are. I love 1911 pattern pistols, so I thought the 2011 type would be my first choice. I shot them and I love them. Iwas going to build one, but I 'm in the middle of a 1911 build and didn't want to start another project. I shot several TS at the club, in both 9mm and 40 S&W and an older IPSC model in 9mm. I liked them too. I didn't want to wait, so I ordered a 40 TS from the CZ Custom shop. Trigger was a tad over 2lbs with a touch of creep. The pistol was tight, and didn't loosen up until I had 500 or so rounds through it. I added a fiber front sight, a steel guide rod and thin grips. I ordered the extended base pads to get mag capacity up to 20 rounds. 17 round mags don't get it done, so if you order the pistol from the Custom shop, be sure to tell them you want the extended base pads and have them install them and test. They will swap things out until they work. Don't ask how I know to do this. Buy your extra mags at the same time and have them do the same. Loaded to 1.126" everything from 155gr to 180gr in SWC or TC, jacketed or lead feed flawlessly and cycle with a 13lb spring in minor or major. I'm a happy camper. Now to the negatives. As has previously be stated, after market customization parts, or even basics and few and far between. You cannot get a race holster for it unless you want to modify the block. Good race mag pouches need a custom spacer to fit the TS mags. The finish on the inside of the gun is abysmal- literally machined with a dull end mill. Blade-Tech is your only choice of holsters. If you buy their Competition holster, DO NOT get the dropped Stingray loop. It is angled so the muzzle points at your knee cap. I am not sorry I purchased the gun and I will continue to use it. If I had to start all over again, I'd take a real hard look at the Tanfoglio Single Action. It is a CZ clone with a much, much better finish and anyone who makes race gear makes stuff that fits Tanfoglios. I shot my friends and it is a truly awesome pistol for not much more than the TS.
  17. I also have a 40 TS, and I load everything to 1.126". I've never had a failure to feed. I use 155 and 175 LSWC and 180 LTC bullets. The guys at my club who load a little longer have occasional feed problems with the 175 LSWC.
  18. I'm new to reloading 40 S&W so I looked in this forum for recommendations. Many of you loved e3 and I had some, so I worked up loads based on the info I got here. Here are the results. Chrono data is below. All loads were shot from my CZ 75 TS w/5.4" barrel, all used CCI 500 primers and COL for all was 1.126" 85 degrees, Chrono Distance 10', Roger's Better Bullets: 175 LSWCBB, 3.1 e3, 10 shots, SD 9.53, 854 Avg Vel, PF 149 180 LTCBB, 3.1 e3, 10 shots, SD 8.88, Avg Vel 844, PF 151 180 LTCBB, 3.4 e3, 11 shots, SD 8.86, Avg Vel 902, PF 162 155 LSWCBB, 3.1 e3, 10 shots, SD 16.32, Avg Vel 854, PF 132 155 LSWCBB, 3.4 e3, 10 shots, SD 14.06, Avg Vel 933, PF 144 175 LSWCBB, 3.8 Solo 1000, 5 shots, SD 9.67, Avg Vel 846, PF 148 180 LTCBB, 3.8 Solo 1000, 14 shots, SD 12.62, Avg Vel 843, PF 151 95 degrees, Chrono Distance 11', Delco Shooter's bullets: 175 LSWCBB, 2.8 e3, 20 shots, SD 9.90, Avg Vel 797, PF 139 180 LTCBB, 2.8 e3, 20 shots, SD 6.75, Avg Vel 773, PF 139 175 LSWCBB, 3.5 e3, 14 shots, SD 7.79, Avg Vel 928, PF 162 180 LTCBB, 3.5 e3, 9 shots, SD 8.08, Avg Vel 913, PF 164 I might try going lower for the minor load just to see what happens. However, I'll probably stick with the 2.8 e3 load because it cycles with the 13 lb spring. Brass dribbles out 2' to the right, but there is never a malfunction. The major load throws to brass 4-5' to the right. It looks like I'll bump it to 3.6gr e3 for major and call it done. Thanks to all who posted such valuable info and got me started on the right foot.
