  1. I think carry optics is the place to be if you are apprehensive about the "speed" that you need to shoot in open to do well. Since it is minor scoring, Alpha's are the only way to go. I'm not saying you can't be fast in CO, but it isn't the same as open. If CO was at the point that it is now when I started shooting open, I would have shot that instead of open. But now I am full on dark side and Open is the only way to go for me #Dotlife
  2. Well I was the one that started this thread, and now I have one whole season in open. This is the class that I was always supposed to be shooting and I have had several people tell me as much. I started placing much higher in matches after about a month or so of shooting open. Not just because of the capacity, but because I could finally go as fast as I wanted to. My trigger finger speed is still holding me back a bit, but I am working on that as best as I can. I haven't really found much advise for speeding up my trigger finger, but I am still blasting away at it. For the people that think that open is "easy" I would beg to differ. There are no excuses and nothing to blame your performance on, so it is all on you. I really like that aspect of it. I can be as good as I want to be if I invest the time. This season I used to just get a feel for the pace and getting used to the dot. If I can find the time with two small kids and a crazy wife, I will get some practice in the off season and really make a run at Master class for the season. Dry fire would be my recommendation for anyone getting into Open. OR like someone else said, try Carry Optics instead and see if you like the dot. My shooting buddy switched to CO and he is shooting much better. He has some issues with his eyes that was really holding him back. Look out next season...........Here I come
  3. Here is one other thing that I would like to mention. During a match, I leave it turned on all day. When I make ready I have to bump the optic with my hand and it "wakes back up" and I am good to go. I don't like the fact that the intensity adjustment is also the On Off switch. I just turn it on at the safe table and set it to the brightest setting and leave it alone for the day.
  4. Same set up for me. I like it LOUD and BLASTY!
  5. Hey I love shooting 38 SC but I am tired of having to buy new brass all the time. Does anyone have a source for SC brass that is maybe once shot?
  6. The one time it happened, I was shooting a stage. I got 4 shots off and then it just went out. I hit it with my hand a few times and it came back on. Then it will going off and on with every shot. I replaced the battery and the rest of the match was fine. When I pulled the battery, the only thing I saw was a spot in the middle of the battery that had been "worn down" from where it was touching the contact on the bottom of the compartment. I am happy with it for sure, but I just want others to know to replace the battery more often than i did.
  7. I had my battery go out on me at the last match of the year. It looks like there is a "scraping" effect going on at one of the terminals. I have only Changed the battery 2 times this season, so I guess that I should pay more attention. It has been a great optic so far, and I can't complain about a few batteries. I would still recommend it.
  8. I bought a Slideride and the dot was not even close to round and way off center with the glass. I have to send it back and I just got it. Anyone else have that issue and need to send it back? It looks to me like the coating on the diode is just scratched off for the size dot that you requested. And it looked like it was scratched off out of round and off to one side pretty significantly. I compared the dot size to my DPP and it seemed to be exactly the same size. Confusing to say the least. Super disappointed
  9. That is the response that I was thinking about when I originally posted this. I feel like I am experiencing the same issue you are. When I dry fire I seem to get the dot with no issues. But when I am at a match, odd shooting positions and strong hand weak hand give me all kinds of trouble. What is the "drift" you are referring to? Like I said I am new to Open so I don't know all the ins and outs yet. Thanks for this post.
  10. I think the DPP is a great sight, but the second that I picked up a Slideride I really noticed the size of the glass and how crisp the dot was. I am thinking I will pick one up and see how it goes. Any suggestions on a mount?
  11. This is my first open gun and it came with a DDP. I was looking at another open gun on a vendor table this weekend and it had the original C-More on it. I really liked the bigger dot and the larger glass. Has anyone else switched back after shooting something like the DPP?
  12. I had the same issue. Switched to comp and it was good to go.i still have a bunch of super brass I would like to shoot up. I wish they would figure this out Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
  13. Thanks for the ideas. I don't know if it matters, but i am going to go 38 Super Comp and I am loading AA#7 with a 24grn Precision Delta pill. I was also planning on some popel holes as well. ( I just like how loud it is ) Does that change any of the suggestions?
  14. Awesome! That is the exact question that I had! Thank you so much.
  15. I was wondering what other peoples firing pis stops look like? My Dawson limited hun has a real steep flat that goes down to a small rounded area at the bottom. I heard that it makes a real difference in the way the gun handles and I am curious about that. Anyone have good pics of their stops?
  16. Same here. No issues for me. I have about 2500 rounds down range in 38 super
  17. Thanks for the heads up guys. Keep on with the suggestions if you would please. I also did some searching and I found one person saying that the firing pin stop made a huge difference as well. Anyone have pics of their stops? Do you think I should start a new topic on the firing pin stops?
  18. I leave the cover on as well. Sometimes it will turn off automatically but I just bump the gun with my hand and it comes right back up. It is weird but not a big deal if you just slap and tickle the gun before you walk up. And yes, off and on are a pain. That is why I only do it and the beginning and end of the match. Hope that helps
  19. I am new to open but I love it already! I found a smith to make me a custom gun and now I need to pick parts. The only thing that I am not sure of is the comp. There only seems to be a few that sell them and I see tons of different configurations on other custom guns. So are the smiths making them or just reconfiguring factory made models? The other question that I have is what configurations do people like? I see 3-4 ports, side ports, side cut outs etc. but I can't figure out what the best one to get is. Seems like all the other choices that I have to make are much more self explanatory, but the comps are a whole different deal. Thanks in advance.
  20. I have been shooting mine for about 2 months now. My only complaints have been mags and the machining on the inside of the gun. My SPS mag was dragging on the slide and I have been tuning it slowly as to not take off too much material. That mag would run SC but there was dragging of the rim of the case on the next round in the mag. When I switched to Super Comp, that issue went away. I have been polishing the crap out of the internals of the gun. lots of rough spots and I could hear that it was dragging in spots. Again I have been going slowly as to not mess anything up. I have done a round or two of using lapping compound on the rails ( the lightest compound I could find ) to smooth things out. There was some drag on the disco as well that I resolved with a new EGW disco and some polishing of the slide. There still seems like there is too much resistance going on so I will keep working on it slowly. I switched out the recoil spring with a 9 lb and it has run ok. But I still think there is some rough spots that need worked out. I know there are people running much lower spring weights but I don't think I can at this point. I also tried to switch the grip out with my STI plastic grip that I had so that I could use a magwell. (The SPS grip will not take any commercial magwells) But my MBX mags were riding too high and hitting the slide so I took it back off. I have a CK grip that I will try at some point and report back on that. But the truth is that is does run pretty well for what it is. I would recommend this as a backup gun or for someone like me that didn't know if they wanted to go open or not. I am sold on the division and I will be trying to get a custom gun made as soon as the funds are available for it.
  21. Yeah but you are a "special needs" case. Short bus riders need not apply.......
  22. If you watch Adam's videos ( Atlas Gunworks ) you will see how to tune the follower so it doesn't drag. I load mine long and I never have had that issue. Does the issue occur when you have just a few rounds left in the mag or all the time? My guess is that the follower is rubbing the tube somewhere in the tube when it switches from double to single stack. It is just a guess though. Can you take pic of the empty mag looking down into it? I would like to see how the follower is sitting at the top of its range to see if it has the same angle that mine has after I tuned it. The only other thing that I suggest is to switch to Super Comp brass. I couldn't get the Super brass to be consistant at all. When I switched to Comp, the issues went away!
  23. I I am using: Zero 125 HP AA#7 10.1 gr The muzzle rise isn't bad at all, and pretty darn accurate.
  24. Good suggestion. I have custom in ear ones that I had made at a match last season. I can barely hear anything at all with them in. Everyone says how loud my gun is, but it sounds just like anything else I shoot with my particular ear pro. I will try some different springs this week and report back with what I find. Does everyone use the Wolf springs you can get at Shooters Connection? Thanks again
  25. Well that was a mix of helpful and @$$Hole. I am new to open but not new to uspsa. I Didn't have this issue with my open gun, but the follow up shot in open is much faster. When I was shooting limited, there were times on close targets i would just pull the trigger as fast as I could. Now with open, when I pull as fast as I can on close targets, I am getting a Low second shot. I was guessing that the recoil spring is just a bit too heavy and making the dip at the end when I have to hose at the close ones.
