  1. Or worst, depending on how you look at them. Well, this is not from IPSC match, but it has to be the best I've heard: A stage where the competitor was supposed to carry two big wooden ammo boxes from A to B, which was through a labyrinth, while shooting, like stages usually are. Well, the Ultimate Gaming version was to put the boxes together, jump on them and shoot over the stage prop walls, therefore shooting everything from just that one spot. And changing the stage from something like a 25 second stage to a 8 sec stage...
  2. I just got one set of grip screws to replace my most worn ones. I'm loving em, gotta have more! In my opinion, everything but torx should be banned! As mentioned, it's almost silly to put so much importance to a pair of screws, but these Just Work.
  3. +2. Calculations are getting pretty good nowadays, and you can save some range time with less guesswork. Here's an example of modern calculations, combined with a very skilled shooter of course. Quick Target Unlimited (comes with QuickLoad) includes measured doppler data for some bullets, which means that the results are getting awfully close to real life. Actually, there's a free version on Lapua's site, it only includes Lapua bullets and works to ~1100m. http://www.lapua.com/index.php?id=1215 Here's a good book on the subject: http://www.appliedballisticsllc.com/index_files/Book.htm
  4. I have taken out all but one weight button, no problems. (Standard rifle buffer, standard carrier, adjustable gas system, and 18" barrel with rifle length gas.)
  5. The enidine is a bit heavy. So, a trick solution is to install a short enidine so that is doesn't move, eg. to the back of the rifle buffer tube, then modify a buffer so that the total lenght of those two is as long as a complete rifle buffer. And when adjusting the gas system, shoot as steeply down as you can, with a loose hold on the rifle. You will encounter something like that in a match some day, and then wonder why the rifle won't cycle. It's a big difference in the amount of gas needed for cycling the bolt carrier up, vs. shooting prone and holding the gun tight, and cycling straight back.
  6. Spin drift for regular 308 is around ~0.15mrad at 600m when zeroed at 200m, 0.3mrad for 800m, when the gun is zeroed at 300m. So, not much. You can zero the gun at a bit longer distance, say, 400m, so the spin drift becomes even less of a problem in medium distances. You'd be a bit left before 400m, dead on at 400m and bit to the right after that. Of course, it makes a far less difference than the slightest breeze of wind, but it is one more thing to keep in mind for longer range shots. I love installing scopes with a feeler gauge: just stick the gauge between the scope bottom and the base, assuming that both are flat of course. I guess that's very accurate method too.
  7. I'd love to buy a (Kidd?) blast shield and anti glare shield for C-more from you, to get all fun stuff from one place! Oh, a bigger knob for c-more wouldn't be bad either, my fingers bleed after a training session:
  8. Is it possible/easy to ruin your frame/hammer/sear while fumbling with the reamer? I just ask because.. well... not that I would have any history of ruining any parts in the past.. eh.
  9. Yay! Looking forward to upgrading my three guns with the full trigger set. Costs as much as getting a fourth complete gun, but hey.. Life is expensive. Maybe I'd get a volume discount after four sets.
  10. Yay! My first match with an open gun. We were supposed to have a limited team, but my limited gun started acting up just before the match, and then one team member got sick. So I shot in open. Summary: Fun as hell. First stage was crappy, trigger freeze while moving and shooting thru windows-> stop and return to shooting position.. argh. Got better after that. A few "almost" perfect stages regarding cleaning plate arrays. Clang, clang, clang, clang... I want to practise a lot more so I could get a perfect one some day! This one left the best feeling: Video from Stage 1 (mp4) I had the fastest time, 1.1s faster than the open winner, who also happens to be a Finnish champion in limited this year, so I guess he's not a snail! I finished 99.72% because of bad points. ("What, am I supposed to AIM too?!?" ) I was a bit worried about the partial targets right after the start, and I ended up taking two extra shots on them, as the first shots felt bad. (And if I remember right, they had only 2 holes...) I also checked the reload from video, it's about 1.1s, probably faster than I've ever done, anywhere. The end looks funny, like a small train puffing out smoke in there. I accomplished the goal of moving and shooting "non stop" in the end. Shooting limited is now kind of boring after getting a taste of open madness!

  12. Can you move the audio track in pinnacle? I record with a Canon HV20, and the files show properly with VLC, but Premiere makes the audio play two or three frames too late. So, I alt click to select the audio only, then nudge it a few frames back/forward.

The 3-gun match went OK, and we won a fun little side event: rifle, shotgun and pistol on table, team of three shooters clean out array of steel plates on varying distances. Each shooter shoots a randomly selected gun. The lottery was good for us, since we all got our own guns. I totally crashed a shotgun stage, which required use of one slug in the end. My shotgun reloading sucks. Other stages were ok, the last rifle stage even surprisingly good. I managed to eliminate a lot of wasted slow movement there by getting to the right spot and stopping there without stepping too far and then having to go back, which is my usual weakness. My feet need a memory of their own, so I can program them to run to the exact spot and then just shoot.

We made some wall props to the range, yay! Finally, we can have something that at least resembles a basic stage, altough the targets are still only in line against the back berm in the static target holders. Small match tomorrow. First match since the championship match, where I busted my knee, and it's been weird since. I hope I don't have to use whole of next season budget for a knee surgery.
  15. I use the uniquetek micrometer powder slide thingy. So, I write up the numbers for load testing: "162 gave PF 169, 166 gave PF 172, 170 gave PF 176". After changing calibers, I can go back to whatever load I had by just checking the number, and it's always spot on. I love it!
  16. Also check out Capture one: http://www.phaseone.com/4/ It's a perfect program for photographers. After I got my first version, I have not shot a single JPEG since. C1 makes RAW shooting/editing so easy and fast, I just can't live without. (After seeing how huge the difference in quality of RAW vs. JPG really is.) 1. Take the pictures 2. Upload them to your pc 3. In C1, take the first picture, and look if it needs any crop/exposure/color adjustment (which are all very easy and fast to use in this program), and click one button from your keyboard, and the C1 starts to process your image, while you can work on the next image. This is, by far, the biggest advantage of C1 vs anything else, the PC does it's stuff while you do yours, no need to do the tweaks and then wait for ages doing nothing. For similar images, you'll only need to set the tweaks for one picture and apply them to all pictures, of course. They used to have a free demo version, if they still offer it, go ahead and try it, I promise you will like it. The basic version is maybe ~$100. Photoshop for retouching the images, C1 for photos. (Not a paid commercial. )

Newest ranking says I'm at 82%, with 14 attended matches from previous 24 months, which is highest number of participated matches in the whole list. Yay. Edit: No wait, there's one guy with 15 results. Damn.
  18. Update #2, the first rifle was a lemon, the second one obviously is not. Shot at 150m/165yd range, 168gr Berger VLD and Vihtavuori N150, making a group too small to measure. Ugly and rough gun, but it works.
  19. After some googling I found out that current model accepts longer dies than the previous one, but I still don't know how long. In the picture it looks like the new model would take very long dies, the old might have some limitations with those tall micrometer dies. Also, I don't know when this change was made, so there is a chance there are older models around for sale. Old: New:
  20. I'm shopping for a single stage press, after loaning one for a year.. The Forster Co-Ax seems nice. How tall dies I can use with it? More specifically, will redding competition dies (with the micrometer adjustment) for 308 and 338lapua magnum fit?

I shot a few hundred rounds with the open gun last friday, basically hosed like a madman and had fun. With my secret technique, I managed to shoot half a mag with 0.09-0.10 splits. Lots of noise and flame, what could be more fun. (I was kind of waiting for someone to run to the range and start yelling me not to shoot full auto gun there.) Today I went to the range, trying to get familiar with standard gun again, but after maybe 80 rounds, the slide stop broke. So I ended up shooting 400 rounds with the open blaster once again. Basically two drills from several different distances: 1. Draw and shoot 3 targets from box A, move to box B and shoot 3 targets. Sideways movement. With and without reload. Trying to focus on keeping the gun up and getting ready to shoot as fast as possible. 2. Draw and shoot 3 targets. First without a par time, then with a par time. Knee deep in brass, I finally started to manage to keep somewhat good hits while picking up the pace. With the par time, I aimed to shoot with a steady pace, and fire the last shot precisely at the par beep. Around 13 meters, I used par times 3.00, 2.90, 2.70, fastest try around 2.4 with all hits but bad score. After a few par time runs it started to feel a lot easier to keep the steady pace and not lose the hits. On one round, I had every single split and transition exactly 0.27s, which was funny. Somehow aiming for the steady pace made things work better. Or just being knee deep in brass, I dunno... Shooting open is just insanely fun. Standard feels so dull now... I planned to leave the open gun home, but luckily I took it anyway.
  22. I've noticed that blocking the trigger plunger's side to side movement smooths the trigger movement a little bit, is there a way to do this permanently? A very small difference, but Henning seems to aim for a mad super duper trigger anyway..
  23. My problem was the magwell also, some dremeling with it and now the 10mm mags work pretty good. I also polished the mag body a bit. But still, every now and then they still seem to find the most inappropriate time to not drop free.. So, I prefer the .40 mag bodies. And to be honest, I don't see what problem the 10mm mag bodies fix.

Moved to a new place, with a lovely little reloading room. I've been shooting mostly open lately, and I've managed to shoot one practise stage with a somewhat proper "open" style, that being, fast. Otherwise, I'm faster with a standard gun than with my open blaster. I also complained to court about my permit for the open gun, which was only issued for 10 years. Just thinking about that makes me mad, our elected screwups are on a road to end shooting in our country. One thing I hate about in open is the amount of powder it eats! I can only get about 800 rounds from one pound of powder. And of course it's illegal to store more than 4 pounds, so I have to trust that the store has some in stock. Now, back to reloading, I'll make some 1000 rounds tonight and spend them later this week.
  25. I have long fingers, and I'd prefer a trigger that's just a bit further than the factory one. I also can't wait how good this trigger can get with all these nice parts Henning offers, as it is pretty good already, after a good trigger job with the factory parts.
