  1. I have shot the Redhead some - a friend let me shoot a couple rounds with it when I left mine at home the first day he got it. Subsequently I shoot it now and then to see how it's "breaking in". To put this in comparison, I typically shoot at Browning Citori XT (clays) or Versamax (3 gun) and have shot many other shot guns. The Red Head is a bit lighter then a typical over and under of equal length/steel action. The lockup is tight but doesn't feel quite as positive as some more expensive guns, but is much more positive then I was expecting for a sub 1k gun. The fit and finish was good for the price. The trigger is a bit heavy and doesn't break as clean as I had hoped. I'm not saying it's bad, but I would consider putting a couple bucks into it. It did improve as more rounds went through the gun, but it's still a ways behind the Versamax, let alone a Beretta 68x or Browning Citori trigger. In the end, the Redhead has proved to be reliable and accurate.
  2. I'm not sure actually. There are no markings on the adapter and I don't ever remember purchasing it but it was hiding in my junk drawer. I think it's a UBL but I don't know of sure. It had a tab for using it with a 1.5" belt that I cut out so it'd fit my belt. The actual opening with the tab in was 1.75. After removing the tab, the actual opening is just under 2".
  3. Does the gun stick out the bottom of that ALS holster? No, it sits a quarter inch above the bottom of the holster. The pistol has total coverage from to to bottom.
  4. Holstered. Although now it appears it wasn't locked into place. Typically the rear sights sit just below the top of the holster protecting them.
  5. This is what is stamped on the holster. 6384-819 S&W M&P 5 1513
  6. Rio and Kemen last year started a joint manufacturing facility state side (TN or KY IIRC). There first couple lots did have some problems. I would consider contacting Rio to determine if your case is one of the effected lots. Typically Rio's are great shells for a budget shooter.
  7. Through my VM and M1, I prefer the Remington reduced recoil but the accuracy is less than stellar. For close shots (50-60 yards) they work fine. When I need to shot long distances I've had the best luck with Federal Truball slugs. Word of warning, they do kick, but they're very accurate.
  8. Several of the larger round buttons will fit without modification. We put a TTI on a friends VM last week. We did run to the hardware store for a slightly longer bolt.
  9. Sorry for the late reply, I'll check tonight when I get home.
  10. I purchased an ALS holster made for a 9L/Pro (at least, that is what Safariland told me). It's stamped as a 9L holster. Works great with my Pro.
  11. While the Rainier barrels are great barrels, the latest runs of the Select barrel have had intermittent issues with the gas ports being drilled at a slight angle causing cycling issues. Rainier has immediately sent out a new barrel the two times I have seen this issue.
  12. My wife owns and shoots one regularly. For the price, is a great pistol but if I were looking for a competition pistol or carry gun, I'd look at other options. There is nothing bad I have to say about it with the exception of the take down. The take down pin is a bear to remove the first couple times. Even after a year of shooting and cleaning it almost weekly, it's hard enough I don't use my fingers. Not to paint a bad picture of the pistol. The trigger is fair, shoots accurately and eats any ammo I have. My only other grip I guess, mags are spendy.
  13. Any chance you can post a picture of this brass sorting jig?
  14. I purchases the case feeder about two months ago and loaded 4k of 9mm and 2k of 45. The only issue I had was 380 cases mixed in with my 9 causing the feeder not to feed case. I batch load for the year in the winter so removing it once a year isn't a big deal to me, but I do plan to modify it to accept 223 cases (which is well documented on these forums). In the end, a 650 might not have been a bad idea, but I still occasional load 100 of a random caliber and the 550 is hard to beat for that.
  15. One thing to look for is that Remington seems to very inconsistently apply the front sight. Mine was applied to the far right of the rib in the front. I peeled the sight off, reapplied it dead center, didn't tighten the mag tube nut (if you have a carbon arms extension, this isn't an issue) and am now hitting with 1-2" POA to POI at 5 off a bench rest.
  16. Remington recommends not using any choke tighter than IC with slugs in a Versamax FWIW.
  17. I had limited space and backed up as far as I could while not shooting behind others on the firing line. I'll be re-chrono'ing on Friday.
  18. C Rums does trigger work on a the VM. Just got mine back from him but haven't had a chance to try it out yet.
  19. Thanks for the info, I'll be curious to see what you come up with tonight. I was about 5' from the chrono.
  20. Thanks for the feedback. Shooting indoors is on the list, but I'm a couple weeks away yet. I'll be curious to see the differences in tempature. Specifically speaking to the M&P Pro, I had over 50 rounds thorugh it yesterday (30ish out) and had an average of 908, High was 937 and low was 892.
  21. I loaded up a test batch of 9mm, 147 gr. zero bullets with 3.6 gr of Win231, COL 1.160 with WIN SSP primers. 25 degree day, sunny with a light wind I got the following chrono results. 910 avg over 10 shot string, S&W MP Pro 5" 860 avg over 10 shot string, Berettta 92FS 876 avg over 10 shot string, Sig P226 The Lyman manual states max load is 960FSP. My two other manuals don't list Win231 w/ 147gr. Will I see an increase in volocity when shooting in 80 degree weather? Knowing I won't see 80 until next May, any predicitons? There were no signs of overpressure, which was to be exspected.
  22. Not sure I'd ever heard WIN cosniderered harder than CCI, for me CCI has always been on the hard scale of the spectrum, harder than Federal and Win.
  23. A number have suggested lube, but are you using a carbide die? What brand die are they? I've never needed to lube with a carbide die - always lube without it.
