  1. DB, thanks for that chart. I understand the rates but there is some confusion as to when you would use a fast burning powder vs. a slower burning one. Is there a general rule as to when and what powder to use with heavy vs.light bullets. And how does case size come into play? We always ask top shooters what they are using. How do they how what route to choose when developing a load? There must be a rule of thumb or guide line when choosing a powders for whatever the application might be. thanks
  2. How does SuperTarget powder compare to 231 in burning rate? thanks
  3. How exciting to go and shoot in Europe. To experience something different.
  4. About the only die I am really concern with when loading the 45 is the taper crimp one. I use the Dillon. Its has more taper than others. Any resizer will do, neck expanding is done on the 1050, and any seating die will do. And then I give it alot of taper. Around .464-468. The 45 cartridge and most 45 guns shoot good enough at 25 yds that I dont see the need for any specility items. Its just any way of spending money. just my thoughts.
  5. I did see at time not to long ago 10 mags for that gun. They were on sell on USPSA or some other auction sire. If recall the seller said they were from another SW gun but with the notch cut in another location. Nice gun but where do you get 10 rd mags. You could call the PC shop at SW, and see what they say.
  6. The seller responded today and told me the barrel dia. is 1"3/8s. thanks
  7. Yes Pat, its been tricked out.
  8. I get the idea but what about the action of the 788? Would a 6mm08 work for long range or too light a bullet? thanks
  9. I found a Remington 788 action with a bull barrel. Complete rifle. Is this a good action? the only thing it is barreled in 243 cal. Could this be rechambed? The barrel twist is 10 in 1. thanks
  10. thanks guys! Iam not to swift on rifles. The only way to learn is to ask questions. I think I'll pass on this one. I was aware of some of the things you guys mention but I didnt know how to verify because the salesperson at the shop didnt know. thanks
  11. I found a win. receiver complete (new) with a 1'' full length barrel in 308. I was wondering if the Winchester receiver would be a good setup to start with? I dont know what twist the rifling is? Later I would shop around for a sniper stock. any thought before I buy this? Asking price is 800.00 thanks
  12. Iam thinking knowing this in advance could make some shooters rethink what there going to shoot as to get an early chance at the prize table.
  13. I was looking at the results of the 2001 Rio Salado Classic and noticed the L10 winner had the most match points. I thought "did he win the entire match?" How could he have had more match points than the winner of the Open Class? And still not be Overall winner? I made a call to someone who finised very well in Limited and said the scoring was different for the L10, Limited and Production division. Is this true and how could this be? Anyone! 14. Has anyone tried the 40 (180 lead bullets) with WST? I have some powder left over and was wondering if this powder would be fine to use? Any thoughts? thanks
  15. Patrick, I am just letting you know that I liked what you wrote in the last issue of Front Sight. In the review test of the two 45s you mention the reasons for shooters going into L10. The price of Open guns has sky rocketed with trick Limited guns not far behind. Along with the mags. What a price shocker for a new guy coming into the sport and excepting to pay almost as much for the mags as a STOCK gun. A tricked gun almost two grand. True to get mags you can buy the tubes but your almost breaking the law and maybe not many are willing to do that. With course design changes its now really competitive for a L10 shooters. The sport is made up of average joe shooters with hopes of making it big. The truth is its time consuming and expensive. There always seems to be another gimmick to spend your money on. And the only real gimmick is PRACTICE. Anyway good writing!
  16. Pat, have you ever tested the Wilson CQB. What were your impressions? And how do the SV singlestacks compare which would be a better buy? thanks
  17. I agree with Scooter. I ve been reading the posts about spring rates. And frankly I believe in a 45 with 200 grers a 14 is about as low you can go without smashing the gun. In a 40 with 180s a 12 or 11 is the way to go. Anything else is would not be a good setup to shooting fast. And also with the PF at 170,200 grers in the 45 is what is need. A good compromise between light and heavy bullets. You can shoot 185 but that would require a heavy spring like a 15 lb In the 40 the 200 are too sluggish and 155 or 165 too much blast and more powder. And a heavier spring. Remember when Robbie was shooting his long slide in 45 with 230 bullets he was using a 12lb spring. You can do that with more weight on the slide a slow heavy bullet. You almost have to use a lighter spring than you would in a standard 45. IMO. thanks for reading.
  18. So Pat you would recommend 320 for the a 200 gr 45 load? What about the Super Target? What do you think about a SA Operator build up for L10? thanks
  19. I have seen the Mil-spec operator for about 545.00 dollars on the internet. They go for about the same as a Mil-Spec standard 45. From what I ve read about the test reports the full profile slide for 45 at the velocities we shoot in IPSC might too heavy. Maybe a slide with stirr up cuts like Brian uses on his 40 with the full dust cover. Get the idea! But then again you might be able to use a lighter recoil spring around 13,12lb. I think it might be good. Any thoughts. thanks
  20. I was thinking of the Mil-Spec model of the operator. That way you could build it the way you wanted.
  21. PaulW what do think of the SA Operator, for a limited 10 gun? thanks
  22. Pat have you test a LB Premier II or a Sv single stack in 45 yet? Which is a better buy? What 45 would you recommend buying at this point to shoot L10? thanks
  23. Where would you buy the Sako TRG-22?
  24. Any thoughts on titanium comps? I have a Para/colt 9mm, and was wondering what setup to use? any thoughts on comps and scopes? thanks
