  1. I shoot in Production in USPSA and I have 10 mags. With only 10 rounds in each mag I still can't get through most shoots without reloading mags. You won't be happy with 3 mags and in one stage today there were 32 rounds fired as a minimum. I had 5 mags on me total and didn't feel over loaded. Again I am not loading 32 rounders since I can only shoot 10 rounds. I also use hi cap mags even though I am restricted to 10 rounds. I'm not familiar with all of the limited rules, but guys next to me today shooting the STI framed guns had 20 round mags and didn't need as many mags as I did. So what is the largest mag capacity that will fit in a G35 and still meet the 140mm rule?
  2. Funny that you say that Flex. I don't admit this often, but when I bought and installed my Dawson adjustables, I just centered the rear the best that I could and shot it. I have never turned the screws on my adjustables. I thought that I was just damn lucky.
  3. Duane, thanks for the comments on Dave Sevigney's arm positions. Sorry to post this in the wrong location to begin with.
  4. Pierruiggi, thanks for asking the question. Even though we both noticed the obvious differences in shooting style, I think that we both can agree that the others in the top all shot with bent elbows to one degree or another. I was just surprised that Dave Sevigny shot with very locked elbows. Old saying about there is more than one way to skin a cat, applies here. I've also studied shotgun disciplines. And while observing stances, I noticed (who couldn't notice) that one particular olympic champion had such a crouch to his stance that is was very abnormal compared to others, but the man could shoot. Duane Thomas in another thread said that many times we look at a shooter who is shooting extremely well and we want to critic his form. The point isn't the form but rather that he is accomplishing his intended task - hitting the target. Now the real question comes up. What's going to work for me? How can I see improvement and can the improvement be sustainable and repeatable. For arm position for most of us, I think that the bent elbow iso lends itself best to the majority of the shooters and so that is where I will concentrate my focus. Different ways to do things can obviously work for others.
  5. So Flex and Nik, if I am reading the both of you correctly, you drift the rear for windage and buy different front post heigths until you get the elevation correct (or just buy one tall one and a file)? You guys also believe that different loads, i.e. 115 Gr. match loads, vs 124 +P defensive loads or even 147s there isn't enough difference to make a change in your sights over the ranges that we fire the weapon? Just want to make sure that I understand you point of view. I also take it that you believe that adjustables aren't as good mechanically as fixed sights - less to go wrong? I don't want to put too many words in your mouths, but please expand your comments as to the whys of the comments. Thanks guys.
  6. No Brian is not actually shooting, he is delivering commentary at the Limited Nationals. Don't beat me because I don't get all of the names right but Rob Leatham, Dave Sevigny, Eric Grauffel and others are doing the actual shooting. I keep wanting to know more about the target layouts and why each shooter shot them as he did and what the strategies were going in.
  7. HK, you will see that the real question isn't whether you should have bought the 34 or the 35, but rather which one comes first. You should have both! I did it a little different in that I bought two 34s. One for me and one for my wife. I'll own a 35 soon enough, but right now I am learning how to shoot this plastic gun and having a blast. You will too. Forget all of the add ons - get yourself a decent trigger (which you can do by yourself), sights and more in $$$ in ammo than the cost of the gun and begin the journey. Enjoy.
  8. I'm shooting Dawson adjustables and am very pleased with them. I do see that at Nationals last year (USPSA) and probably for many years Bomars are the number one sight used for iron sights. You won't go wrong with them by any means. The other nice sight to consider is the Heinie product; when you visit Custom Glock Racing you will see these as well.
  9. If you didn't get a chance to see this, I would encourage you to record it on Sunday or have someone else record it for you. I have read and envied many of these shooters, but to see them shooting is another thing. I just wish that they made this series longer in air time. Half-an-hour doesn't do the three day match justice. Brian, where did all of that hair go that is on the cover of your book? Nice job with commentary on the show. I really enjoyed it. One of the things that really stood out for me was how straight and stiff armed Dave Sevigny shoots that Glock. Robbie, as Brian calls him, was very smooth and ... you watch the program; I don't want to steal the ending if you haven't seen it or know the results yet. Major cool factor.
  10. Watching Brian on OLN at the Limited nationals as I type. If you miss it tonight I think that it is replayed on Sundays. Set the recorder.
  11. Flex, thanks for the encouragement. I own Matt's #5, the IDPA one; but have to order 1-4 soon. I already own Brian's book. I know that everyone love's Brian's book, but bluntly I found it very difficult reading. I read fine by the way. I'm a college grad, but I found it difficult to focus and read it. I gave up after the first two chapters. I'm sure it would do me good to read it, I just can't seem to get through it. I'll read it one day, I hope. So many people say it is great that I should try again, but it just doesn't seem to agree with me for whatever reason. OK, brace for huge flames. I'm not cutting on the book by the way, it has a ton of meat in it, but I just can't seem to chew it. Anyone else have this same problem? Any tips on how to approach this book differently the next time that I try?
  12. IDPA LEGAL for Glocks as long as it is the factory extended slide release. Personally I like mine. I have smallish hands and find it somewhat difficult to hit it with the strong hand. Maybe I should be practicing using the weak hand with my Glock or is the weak hand thing just a 1911 preference?
  13. I found the current issue of the Blue Press on-line, but was unable to locate any past articles. I reload on a Dillion and use to get the Blue Press, but I have bought anything from them lately and I have been dropped from their mailing list. Thanks for mentioning that you are unaware of it being posted anywhere on the net Duane. Saves me a lot of searching.
  14. Come on Duane, where's the link? All kidding aside I would like to read that one too. I'll do a search under Dillion and see if I can find anything.
  15. After 2 months in the game normal = 1.7 to 1.5. When I push just a little and the grip hits rights I can go to 1.3. Fastest ever on a 7 yard target with a -1 or C zone = 1.16. I have hit that exact time three times now and that is the wall for me. One day I will get it under 1 second, but right now I can't.
  16. Flex, I'm definately a part timer at this gun game and many of you guys shoot a whole lot more than I do. I'm just trying to settle into shooting live fire twice a week 100-150 rounds each and once or twice a week dry fire with one tourney a weekend. Definately part time. If you can, will you post a picture of your Glock? A side shot. Mine seems to wear the worst on the left hand side of the gun. I would post a picture but don't know how on this site. I would like to see what someone's gun looks like after 10s of thousands of rounds. If that's hard to do - don't sweat it. Rick
  17. Thanks for the feedback guys. Like I said I am use to owning firearms and keeping them look nice. One of those dear old Daddy stories follows. My father hunted with a pre-64 70 action until he couldn't hunt anymore. That gun had gone through the toughest briars etc in some deer drives over the years and it looked like it just came off of a dealers shelf. The cuts in your legs and arms will heal but the stock won't - take care of your gun and it will take care of you - lessons from Daddy. I'm 45 and those lessons have always done well by me. This Glock business is just new to me. I'm having a grand time though. Robomanusa, thanks for the "refinishing the slide" info. I'll leave her like she is for now and maybe even approach the two tone finish one of these days.

    Holsters

Congrats RevChuck, it will be interesting to see more and more reports come in on which holsters make it with which guns a which matches. Sounds like you and your CZ are off to the start of a successful season.
  19. Well the Glock was never meant to be a safe queen, but I have long guns that I bought 25 years ago that look better than this guy does after 2 months. Then again some of those long gun probably have never seen that much actual use either. Is there a certain type of holster that won't wear as quickly or a brand that will slow this down. This gun is going to be "in the White" in another couple of months like this. Maybe I should send her off for a hard chrome job or something once it gets to that point. I know XD are suppose to have very soft finishes, but I always thought that Glocks were tanks.

    Holsters

Still in search of the perfect G34 holster. Have lots of time until mid April. I called a Blackhawk Tactical dealer that I met at a gun show a couple of weeks ago. We were both out of our normal town but within minutes of each other at our get away places - small world. He had his goodies with him so we met at my place for some pistol fun. I set up 3 IDPA targets and we had a blast literally. He brought along a G17 carbon fiber CQC holster. There is no light in the belt channel but the holster sits away from the belt mechanism. It's probably not IDPA legal, but wanted to ask you guys if you thought it was? The G17 holster would not work with my G34 and Dawson Precision sights. As soon as the front sight cleared the bottom of the holster you could hear the front sight snap out of the kydex. It hooked the open bottom and was difficult to remove the gun. My wife's new G34 with stock sights still, cleared the channel fine. I ended up buying a holster just not the CQC. I bought my wife the large fanny pack for her G34. I really like the design. In addition to the normal snap connectors you had to push another button to open that latch. Even if the latch was opened there are a couple of snaps to snap it to your belt. It would be hard for someone to take that pouch from you. This is the nicest fanny pack style of holster that I have ever seen. Now do you think Billy Wison will let her shoot IDPA with this thing? OK, OK, I already know the answer.
  21. Ted, I'll have the mags sticking up out of the pants some. Mike, more trigger time is more trigger time - have fun with your new project.
  22. Question for the more experienced guys. I bought my 1st G34 in Mid Dec of 04. I have live fired 2000 rounds, but have dry fired twice that much at least. The wear on my two month old gun is becoming substaintial. Is that a just live with it kind of thing or should I be doing something like spraying the inside of the Kydex with armor all to slick it up?
  23. You guys have me thinking, what about 5.11 tactical pants with your favorite holster with a pair a sweat pant shorts over the top. What do you think, my first FTDR?
  24. Tangram, I wasn't talking about the locking paddle- that one isn't going to make the cut - damn shame too. I was actually talking about the belt holster. He didn't even want to say that this one will make it until it passes a few larger shoots. Strange things happen with new rules. His idea and mine, best to sit tight instead of buying something that isn't going to make it either.
