  1. Congrats Doug, it really is a neat feeling when things come together for you.
  2. I'm with Oliver, those times sound like mine. Must be a good teacher and the woman must be motivated. Congrats to the both of you.
  3. Pierruiggi, thanks for setting the record straight. I appreciate your follow up. Rick
  4. Super Sweet! She is gorgeous.
  5. From a long time rifle reloader, when loading for accuracy we candle the bullet. Make up a dummy round (no powder or primmer and seat it extremely long with no crimp at all) then put this dummy round over the top of a candle which will blacken the bullet. Some use a magic marker here these days. In bolt action rifles the bullet is then feed into the chamber and the bolt closed. This will seat the bullet in the dummy round to touch the lands. You must then back off or rather seat the bullet deeper than this. I read reduced pressures for seating long with some concern. Yes reduced pressure will occur with the same amount of powder with a longer overal lenth IF the bullet doesn't touch the lands. If the bullet is up against the lands pressures will rise dramatically. So yes, reduced pressure in a longer than a shorter case with same powder GIVEN that the bullet's overal length does not touch the lands. In very hot rifles cartridges like my 7mm mag, by getting too close to the lands, you have to take your press' random variation into account, you can make a relatively decent load and start to flatten primmers, see primmers back out or even blow gases back past the primmer - all signs of over maximum loads for your rifle. Now to the orignial question regarding automatic pistols - I don't have a clue.
  6. Pierruiggi, the following is a cut and paste from this board on another thread and it specifically mentions the P-01 as no longer approved: "From the IPSC Global Village web-site: IPSC Global Village Below is a brief summary of some important decisions made jointly and unanimously by the members of the Rules Committee and the Production Division Committee present at the recent meetings held in conjunction with the IWA Show in Germany, and these decisions have been endorsed by the IPSC Executive Council: 1. The following guns are no longer approved: CZ P-01 and SP-01 Series Tanfoglio Stock Custom Sphinx 3000 Series The reason is that the above guns all have long dust covers. 2. The following guns are now approved: HS Produkt HS 2000 Series Springfield Armory XD Series An official Rule Interpretation will shortly be issued in respect of Rule 8.1.5.2. along the lines of "Striker-fired pistols are generally classified as Double Action", however please note that the H&K P7 series and the Browning HP series remain classified as Single-Action, and therefore continue not to be approved for Production Division. 3. Maximum number of rounds loaded: Proposal rejected, so no change to current rules. Hence whatever is the capacity of the standard magazine of a gun on the approved gun list can be loaded and fired. 4. Rules on Sights: Although I cannot yet advise the exact wording of the forthcoming change to the Sights Rules in Production Division, the decision is that any aftermarket "post & notch sights" will be permitted, regardless of whether or not they are available from the OFM. Note that Ghost Ring sights are specifically excluded. 5. Disclaimer: Please note that the above information is given as a "bulletin", and the exact wording of official Rule Interpretations released by IPSC take precedence." The above was cut and paste from this thread: http://www.brianenos.com/forums/index.php?...c=22138&hl=p-01
  7. Glad that you enjoyed yourself. Have more fun at your next shoot - it might sound funny but the next shoot will be more fun. I was thinking about another firearm, a Taurus that my brother has and with it you push down so far to release the safety and push further to decock. If you pushed your safety enough to brake it you would have decock the taurus. Alway thought that my brothers gun in the midst of battle when you really needed the safety to come off and no more that you might find yourself with a decocked gun. Thread drift - sorry. Have fun with your shooting.
  8. Thanks for the insight. By watching the local news it looks like everyone has an Uzi, I see again that the news portrays things one way when reality is quite different.
  9. Glad to hear that he is REALLY back! Congrats
  10. We're both right just talking about different guns. The P-01 can't be used either and it is a smallish, light weight gun as you noted. Like I said, "full length dust cover" My exact thought on that is "Bulloney!"
  11. Eric, I did a quick search. Only found the P-01 on the American CZ site, but found this on another site of theirs. "CZ 75 SP-01 The CZ 75 SP-01 (CZ 75 SP-01 Tactical) pistol is a big-size handgun designed for duty in law enforcement or military service, but also for target shooting or self defence having a large capacity double-column magazine holding 18 cartridges of cal. 9x19 and featuring classic DA firing mechanism (SA/DA). The pistol design is based on proved CZ 75 platform. Grip panels made of rubber are provided with checkerings. Long beavertail located at the upper portion of backstrap protects shooter's hand against the slide in its rearward movement and enables more deeper and secure grip. Newly shaped and robust frame made from steel and this handgun structural design provide long service life, accuracy and reliability even at demanding conditions and environments, which can be expected at the specialized units tasks fulfilment. The front portion of the pistol frame features integral light or laser rail of MIL-STD-1913 for the attachment not only of these devices. Sights are open and have squared configuration. Dots fitted into the rear sight and front sight are made of tritium luminescent inserts for aiming at poor visibility conditions. Thanks to its exceptional accuracy and easy target acquisition even in quick and repeated fire meant that the CZ 75 SP-01 pistol found its supporters also in the field of sport and target shooting events. CZ 75 SP-01 The safety of the hundgun is provided by automatic firing pin block and ambidextrous manual safety. 1 - Integral accessory rail 2 - Serrated frontstrap 3 - Enhanced magazine capacity - 18 cartridges Technical info Caliber 9 x 19 Magazine capacity 18 Overall length 207 mm Barrel length 120 mm Height 147 mm Width 37 mm Weight 1180 g Trigger mechanism SA/DA Finish black polymer Safety elements manual safety / decocking lever safety stop on the hammer firing pin safety" 1180 grams is 2.6 pounds when I ran it through a converter. Nice, but the changing of the rules in mid stream is not very cool, CZ deserves better than this. They designed a gun around the rules then the BOD change the rules??? Politics is not about principals but rather about interests. By the way these might be great, but I would still be shooting my G34 no matter what the ruling is. I do like new products in the market place - makes all of the other vendors stay on their toes. Rick
  12. Full length dust cover and I thought that those guns were all steel. They were built to be stable and very competitive. Sure those numbers were not in kilos?
  13. On the used gun circuit the High standard rimfires are greats firearms. I'm 45 and in my second year of college with one of my first college loans I bought a High Standard. The triggers are fantastic. Much better than the Browning or the Ruger. The only other 22 at the time that would touch them was the Smith 41, but you are not buying one of those for $400. Barring the Smith or a nice High Stand the third tier for me would be the Browning or the Ruger - respectable autos that will allow great work on trigger control. That first 22 and lots and lots of bricks on the range helped develop trigger control that is very much lacking in new shooters that start off with centerfire handguns. Elmer Keith was my hero then and I still respect his writings. I shot bulleyes with that gun as well as metallic silhouettes and even hunted squirrels with it. Then graduated to a .357 for deer and finally a 44 for deer. When I go to IDPA shoots I do OK - I can actually hit what I aim at once in a while. Last match dropped 5 points total in the match. Yes, I can learn to speed up some, but my slow time and accuracy still put me in the top of the shooters at the match. Like the idea of the 22 conversion for your competition gun though. Sounds like best of all worlds.
  14. If you go to this site: www.lonewolfdist.com and then do a search for MAK-GLR17, I think that is what you are looking to buy. I said Lone Wolf in one of the earlier responses but did not give a link; hope this is a better reference for you. Serious look at ebay too. Rick
  15. Sac Law Man, they used that quote in the movie "Troy" I believe. Liked it when I herd it the first time too.
  16. Can you silence them in your country. When I was into airguns it's funny how different countries think of cans or supressors. In Britian you can't own a handgun or any gun very easily. A FAC is a license they must own to even shoot air guns that make over 13 foot pounds of energy if I remember right and you can also get one for a firearm but it is damn tough. Now on the other hand they believe in not disturbing the peace while you shoot and encourage supressors. Just wondering where you guys are from what are the reg there? Rick
  17. BIG TIP for those difficult firearms: Gun Scrubber and relube.
  18. Carinab, that's why I love Glocks - simplicity. I did take a fishing real apart and couldn't get it back together so I went and bought another one of the same model so that I could figure it out by looking at the second one. Same reason when I do brake jobs on cars that I only take one wheel apart at a time - I use the other one to figure out how this is suppose to go back together. By the way, I do have two G34s but haven't had to use one as a master - YET.
  19. Infinity, Ebay has them all of the time and I believe Lone Wolf also carries them. You need a tax stamp and all of the paper work that goes along with it to own that. Once you add a buttstock to the handgun it becomes a rifle and the minimun rifle barrel length is 16" without the special permit. The stock cost $100 and the permitt $200. I've shot a full auto modified G17 with the stock and the stock brings the weapon extremely close to you. I didn't like it. Now the happy switch was definately cool and that will cost you a good bit more than the stock. Still wasn't for me.
  20. Listen, whether you guys think a G34 belongs in Production or not, do you remember the IDPA uproar over making $15 Fobus and Uncle Mike holster's illegal? If you take a gun that has been on this list for years and make it illegal now and want to rewrite all of the rules you will have a backlash like you only think that you have now. I'm infavor of the 2000 made/year and bringing back the box. Quit changing the damn rules because someone finds out how to exploit them. They were our rules and now we call foul because someone followed them and made a better mouse trap. Bullony is my exact thought. Whatever us C class shooters shoot the GM and M shooters are still going to kick our rears.
  21. Rifter, I have blinked before. One of the reasons for me doing it is a natural reaction to the explosion that takes place in you weapon. Now what really helped me with that issue was double plugging. In other words I use the foam plugs in my ears and a pair of electronic muffs over those. Here is a good price on the ones that I am currently using: http://www.cheaperthandirt.com/ctd/product...TTF58444UR3CXUD On sight picture there is a distinct difference between sight picture and sight alignment. Where sight picture is when you take you weapon and point it into the sky without any reference to a target and position the front sight into the rear notch with equal amounts of light on both sides of the front post and front post and rear notch are the same height. Now when you take that sight picture and align it with a target that is called sight alignment. (source: Matt Burkett videos). I shoot slower than most but shoot more accurately and finish high amongst my group of friends. The last IDPA match that I shot I dropped 5 points total. Others dropped 75+, but their time was much better, but I ended up doing better than most because of focus on sight alignment. Take it that this was a small 30 people shoot but I ended up 2nd in the match for people that shot the course one time only. A couple of people shot it again and did better than I. For me, I really do try to hit what I am at and am working on developing speed by stage dopping and moving between firing locations fast. Don't get me wrong, I'm not doing slow fire by any means but as someone said earlier see what you need to see and not any more. Something tells me that you know how to shoot but are just getting caught up in the moment. Take your time and hit what you are aiming at then move on and I think you will be pleasantly surprised at your next match.
  22. Double edge blades are illegal in my area. Double edge blades do have some advantages. Again a double edge blade is effective but the "intent of carry" will be looked at differently than a 3" folder with a solid lock. For those of you that live in "automatic" legal areas the microtech's and Rob Dalton blades are quite effective and have locks that stand up to real world encounters.
  23. Titeloop, for those of us that still live in one of the four states that don't allow CCW the blade option is all that we have legally. When we finally become CCW legal, I will still cary a blade in addition to a firearm. There are many applicable instances where a blade makes more sense. Lynn, been on that site many times before. His articles are always insightful.
  24. I stand corrected. Thanks for the info.
  25. Jake, Tarani is great and his kerambits are world class. I've never had a class from him but his work is well known. I guess that I shouldn't be so surprised that all of these shooters also enjoy blades. I also bet that there are more than a few who study different forms of martial arts. These are all different aspects of bushido or the way of the warrior.
