I have new Starkey hearing aids and have been using my Sordin electronic ear protection over the top of them with the hearing aids set for the same normal level of sound that I have them set on without the hearing protectors.  Working very well with no feedback issues or problems so far, even in very hot weather.

Thanks, how long have you been using them?

  2. Thanks, I know I shouldn't put it off, so I am going to start researching them now.  There are so many different hearing aid options these days, and prices are astronomical.  The price isn't going to hold me back, but the fear of buying the "wrong" ones is.  I always buy the wrong brand/model/etc. the first time around and sometimes even the second.  These are too expensive to find out I picked the wrong ones..

I definitely have to hear whats going on when at the range as I'm usually the RO, whether it be at a small match, or teaching new shooters.

  3. I searched, and it doesn't seem like this has been discussed in a number of years, but now it affects me, so it's obviously very important...    :)

It's time for me to look into and purchase hearing aids.  My hearing has deteriorated to the point that daily life is frustrating trying to hear other people talking, etc.  I've been ignoring it for a while, but those days are over.

I'm curious what other shooters that wear hearing aids do when at the range?  Do you wear your ear protection over the hearing aids?  Do you remove the hearing aids?  Do you turn down the hearing aids?

When I shoot, I wear electronic muffs, either Sordin Supreme's or ProEars Pro Mag.  I usually have to turn them up loud to hear everything that's going on around me, and especially when I'm RO'ing a shooter.  I'm also wondering if some hearing aids work better than others when shooting.

    Thanks,

    -Cuz.

I've run all three I have posted above....  The delta once the timer goes off?

    NOTHING 😂

All three work just fine.  If I thought there was an advantage or even a preference, I'd swap all three to be the same.  Right now if I see another ME03 for sale I'll buy it for a back up! 😀 It was $200 delivered and works just the same as the others!... so far. 😉 (only 1K rounds in...)

This just about sums it up.  I've also had a few different optics, Burris FF3, Holosun 407K, 507C, 510C, Shield RMSc and SRO.  Not really sure why I transitioned to the SRO on my main Carry Optics pistols, the Holosun 510 on PCC and rimfire rifle, the Shield RMSc on carry guns, and the other Holosuns on various range toys.  Ya just sort of collect them after a while...

I like the round window of the SRO, and they seem to last the longest overall on a slide, but the upfront cost is huge.

I also prefer the round window on the SRO, and it doesn’t take very long to forget what you paid for it, as long as it keeps working like it’s supposed to.

No, no, no, we don’t care about helping him at all. We just want a chance/opportunity to explain why the dot we are using is better than the one you are using…

Apples to oranges perhaps but with an Ammobot you can see similar behavior if the various control and power cables are too close to each other.

Electromagnetic interference/crosstalk. It's known Ammobot behavior. Usually the cables get jostled too close together while working around the machine. Separating them by at least an inch or so fixes the problem.

    Thanks @ddc

That was one of the things I verified early on in troubleshooting.  I've got them as far apart as they can go.  I guess the good news is that I only waited 23 months after buying it to set it up, rather than 25 months which would put it out of warranty...

  8. Thanks @shred

That doesn’t seem to be the problem. I removed the toolhead, so it’s just the piston moving up and down. With the auto drive turned off, I can operate it manually all the way up and down.

when I power up the tablet and motor, there is an amber light on the back of the motor that glows solid orange. When I push calibrate, the motor tries to rotate the crank but fails, and then the light flashes 7 times. I assume it’s an error code of some sort.

  9. Hello,

So, after installing a Mark7 autodrive on my RL1100 last week, I was able to process about 10k cases.  I had a shellplate index glitch that I got resolved, and then processed about 3k cases with no issues at all.

    Then:

-Broke down and cleaned the press, and swapped the "processing" toolhead for the "loading" toolhead.

-Also installed the primer slide assembly since that's now needed.

-After it was all setup, I powered up the autodrive, and tried to calibrate it, but all I get is a "clunk" noise.

I can fully cycle the press in Neutral mode using a 5/8" wrench like it says in the manual.  It cycles with little effort fully up and fully down.  But, whenever I try to calibrate it, all I get is a clunking noise like it's trying to cycle the press but can't.  I've tried the Torque setting as high as 5, but I'm reluctant to go any higher because I don't want to break anything.  Most all my brass was processed at Torque setting 3 and sometimes 4, but no higher.

If I can't get it figured out over the weekend I will call Mark 7 on Monday, but I'm hoping the Enos braintrusts can help me out.

    Thanks,

    -Cuz

A good way to think about it:

The stop plate does NOT stop your time, it only stops your ability to make up mikes/misses on the other plates.

Thanks, now I’ll always be able to remember that. Sometimes it’s just the way you look at it.

Look on Page 60 of the RL1100 Manual, and it shows pics of the Index Lever bolt along with the Index Roller bolt.

I would definitely replace BOTH with PREMIUM replacements, as @ddc referenced above, while I was in there!

    👍

thanks, but @ddc, how do you find anything on the McMaster website?  I tried looking up every number listed in the pic you provided and they all came up with nothing.  And I had no idea just how many different kinds of hex head shoulder bolts there were. It made my head spin.
Any chance you can provide a link I can just click on and buy?

I've spent quite a bit of time on an automated 1100.

The index roller shoulder bolt tends to get bent during automation if for any reason the shell plate gets jammed during rotation.

It's one of the weak points of an automated RL1100.

It doesn't take much to screw things up.

It may not be obvious that the bolt is bent enough to cause a problem; hard to see with the naked eye.

I'm automated with an old Ammobot so perhaps not directly applicable but in my case operating the press manually may be successful while operating automated is problematic.

That is due to the ability to push the index lever farther in manual mode that when automated.

Again, that behavior may be Ammobot specific.

Replacement index system shoulder bolts from McMaster-Carr:

    @ddc

Thanks for the info.  You provided info on two sizes, do you know which one is the correct size for the RL1100 ?

Or do I need both of them?

Is one the Index Roller Bolt and the other the Index Lever Shoulder Bolt?

Just want to make sure I order the right ones.

    Thanks,

  13. Thanks all,
It looks like the problem is solved.  I don't know what caused it to start happening, possibly the shoulder bolt got slightly bent, as suggested by a couple of folks.  And, also, as suggested either here or in another thread, I decided to try adjusting the Eccentric Drive Stop about a quarter turn so that the shellplate fully indexed, and that seemed to fix things.  It may be compensating for a bent bolt, I'm not sure, but I'll need to pick up a spare bolt or two to test.  I ran some test cycles and it worked fine, so I processed about 700 cases at 1,000 - 2,500 rph speeds with no problems.

Whew, boy do I feel better now.  Hope this helps someone else out there with the same problem.

    Hi @Cuz

@George16 may be more help than me since he's still using an RL1100; but first thing I would do is operate the press in " manual" mode as outlined on Page 27 of the Owner's Manual.  Rotating through the full stroke of the press should show if anything such as the index pall is not completing that last 1/4" of movement.

I also remember the possibility of a spring and/or shoulder bolt at the back of the press controlling the index lever.

Pressing "STOP" twice on the autodrive control tablet will also put the motor in neutral (while Autodrive is On) to allow manually actuating the press at the large sprocket.

HTHs and good luck finding your issue!

    👍

Thanks, I just stumbled across you post in Chapo's thread and am going to look into it shortly.

  16. @Chapo,

What ended up being the problem?

I just installed my autodrive on my RL1100 this weekend, and after working fine for 5,000 cases, I cleaned the press and now it won't index the plate the last quarter inch.  It looks like in your video, but it doesn't end up snapping into place, it stops short, and the press torques out on the downward stroke when the locator pin hits the shellplate.  It will work for a few strokes, then it comes up short.

  17. Thanks @HOGRIDER and @George16

I just installed my autodrive this weekend, and after processing just over 5,000 cases without a problem, I gave the press a good cleaning, and after reassembly, now I'm having problems getting the shellplate to rotate the last 1/4" to click into place.  I tried various amounts of lube, and even no grease.  I've tried loosing the shell plate holder from 1/8 turn, all the way back to a full turn, in 1/8 turn increments with the same result.

I don't get it, everything worked just fine for 5,000 cases before I cleaned the press.  I'm sure it's probably something I'm doing, but I'm pretty sure everything is put back together correctly.

Getting frustrated.  I called Mark 7, and they suggested loosening the shell plate.  It really doesn't seem like an autodrive issue, but I'm about out of ideas.

Like I said...I can case gauge and place 100 rounds in an ammo case in 90 seconds...

I'm not sure how much faster that is than the manual method, but, it's a gizmo I didn't have, so I had to order one.  Thanks for the link.
