The Taylor Freelance 41+1 kits were rock solid for me but that was after doing prep on the mag body and follower. You want to clean up any flashing inside the mag tube and around the skirt of the follower. TF wants you to taper the back of the follower slightly as well. In my experience if you can thumb out a full mag as fast as you can 2-3 times, that's a good indication the mag is ready for a range test for full confidence.

I have also had very good results with the Taylor Freelance Goliath mags. You need to follow their short video about how to prep them, and also keep your cartridge OAL under the size they tell you not to exceed.

But if you don’t use the app you can still use just the chrono by itself. In this instance the chronograph was locked up and not responding. Now this could have been the fault of the app/Bluetooth scrambling it but I’m still leaning towards the low power. It had worked fine after the update many times but I need to test it out now with fresh batteries.

lol, it never even occurred to me that you could use this chrono without the app.

It can be a difficult transition from "in it to win it" to "here for the fun of it" and many shooters leave instead.

Yup, for the past few years the matches are more of a social shooting event for me, which keeps them fun.  I get to hang around and shoot with a bunch of buddies.  Doesn't get much better than that.  I NEVER do any dry fire practice, and my performance shows it, but I don't care because it's all just for fun these days.

But, if USPSA isn't doing it for you.  Grap yourself a shotgun and try Trap.  I started that last year and I had no idea how much fun sucking at trap could be.  Or, build/buy yourself a precison rimfire or centerfire rifle and start shooting that?

It's all about the shooting, not the competing.

And, yeah Shred, I know this isn't directed at you, it's for the OP, but I just grabbed your post to reply.  I guess I suck at forums too, but this place is still fun...

This is to be expected.  The GPT (and the Timney) hold the Firing Pin at a fully-cocked position, therefore exerting more spring pressure resisting slide closure.

    I bought a complete sprting kit (22-20-18-15-13-11lbs)

I started at the 18lb(about the glock factory)

    18lbs: no difference

15lb: slide a tad bit easier to manipulate, no noticeable difference while shooting

13lb: slide Definity easier to manipulate, Definity easy on the recoil/impulse side

11lb: VERY easy to manipulate slide, noticed even less impulse ...BUT....I could feel the slide not locking into place.     Occasionally when chamber checking, I would have to gently knock the slide to fully lock up. 11lb just did not feel right at all.

The kit didnt come with a 12lb spring.

For me...13lb was the way to go

Yup, first I bumped up my spring to 15 lbs I think, then had to bump up my ammo, which was a bit on the light side anyway.  It ran good this summer, I liked not having to worry about positive ignition and never had any light strikes.

  5. I use a Site-Lite STL-100 for long guns. It works great. I never even considered one for handguns. Just shoot at a big target, up close and adjust as necessary.

I suppose if I wanted one for handguns  the cartridge type would work plenty good enough to get you on paper. I guess I could also use my Site-Lite, but just never thought of it.

  6. Lol, I've double replied, or asked the very same question on 2 consecutive days because I forgot I already asked it.

But, as a follow-up, I shot mine all last winter with a 407k and loved it.  Switched to centerfire for the outdoor season, but will be switching back to the P322 for indoor steel over the winter and am looking forward to getting it out to play with.

    Here's what I sent them:

The new Digital Link app sucks and is basically useless.
Forget about the lack of graphics on the shot list, now it
    1. Constantly drops the Bluetooth connection. I mean like every other shot.
    2. There's a two second delay from when the shot crosses the chrono to when it appears in the app
    3. When you create a bunch of shot lists ahead of time, then use them, the "sort by newest" function doesn't realize they've been updated, and still sorts them on their creation date, not their updated date.
You guys have managed to turn a really useful app, into one that's basically useless. Great job

    Here's what they sent me:

I understand your frustration, and assure you we are working hard to resolve these issues. However, I find your approach to be unacceptable. Making negative remarks directed at CE is no way to solve a problem and it will not get you anywhere with us. If you intend to make further communication with us, I insist you conduct yourself in a professional manner or your message will be dismissed.

For your information, the outgoing app was quickly becoming incompatible with many new devices and the rewrite was mandatory. The issues you are seeing are just a fact of reality, and everyone will have to be patient as we sort through them. These same sort of problems existed when we wrote the original app and we worked hard to correct every one. Updates will be released often until all is resolved.

Well, based on the tone of your message, and their response to you, I guess it’s safe to assume that the 4 messages I sent them were all “dismissed”.

i sent mine while at the range, and I was quite upset because I had limited time, and needed to get through a chrono session. Then when I got home and found one they changed the export process, I sort of lost it.

I probably should send them an apology, but I’m still a bit torqued about it. No matter how they changed the app, there was absolutely no reason to change the format of the exported data. It’s a simple CSV file, why change that???  Now none of my excel import macros work and I don’t have time to try and fix them.

Anybody use a Pro Chrono DLX with Bluetooth? What the heck did they do to the app?

    It sucks.

I agree. I used it in July and it was fine, then I took it out yesterday after the update and they screwed up everything. Yes, it still records the velocity of your shots, but they totally hosed the export function.
who in the heck exports a Zip file via email these days???  Many mail servers don’t even allow them to pass because they are easy to hide viruses in. And why did they separate every shot string into its own CSV file?  That’s ridiculous. And, they don’t export any of the “custom” fields. Heck, that’s where I put important load data like the OAL of the cartridge.  They totally blew it with this update. Oh yeah, the graph that gave you a quick look at shot velocities no longer works in landscape mode, and you can’t see all your shots on the same window. You have to scroll off to the sides. I was very disappointed, don’t they actually check any of this crap before pushing out an update that changes everything?  I am clearly annoyed as I keep all my data in a spreadsheet and now it no longer works.

I sent them 3 or 4 messages yesterday through the app. I hope more people do as well.

Suggest you will want the ARCA rail soon and possibly adding extra weight with your B14R - suggest look at the Area 419 weighted ARCA rail. I use AccuTac bipod but also still use old faithful Harris bipod. If you can attend a match - you can see and try multiple types of bipods.

The B14R is a great choice.

Thanks, I’ve been researching since I posted this. I think you’re right. I keep going back and forth. I already ordered a cheap rail to replace the sling studs which will let me use a bipod I already have to start practicing, until I can get to a match and check out some gear. I’ll hold off buying a bipod for this rifle until then.

  10. Giving this a little bump, because now I want to try it out. Just ordered a lefty Bergara R-14R rifle to get me started.

What are you all using for a picatinny mounted bipod?  I’m skipping the ARCA rail for now. I was looking at the Atlas bipods and noticed some do NOT allow for canting left to right. Why wouldn’t you want the cant feature?  They are a little cheaper, but it seems to me you would want the mobility in a bipod.  Please set me straight.

    Thanks.

Now 64 and still working out.  The weight has stayed off.  Super thankful for good health.

Glad to hear it. I’m 4 years behind you in age, but many more in fitness habits.
I'm just starting to get a handle on this whole fitness/nutrition thing.  I hope I’m able to stick with it. I figure when I eventually retire and have more time to shoot, I want to still be able to do it.

I am a staunch SC supporter.  I’ve donated considerable time and money to the sport.  But I’ll still ask the question…..what do 90% of shooters get by being a member?  What is the selling point to new potential members that will never shoot above a level 1 match?

For me, it was to maintain my RO status.
I’ve been a member of USPSA since 2005, and an RO since 2009.  I’ve never shot anything above a level 1 match. And in the last 5+ years I’ve shot only 2 actual USPSA matches. The rest have all been “Action Pistol”, falling steel, and many other unofficial matches, but I’ve maintained my membership because I liked keeping my RO status active.  I had renewed just prior to the rate increase announcement, without knowing about the increase. I’ve been sort of wondering for the last few years why I renew, now I won’t have to wonder as I won’t be renewing.

Although not always in stock or on sale check out Euro Optics…

If the only thing you are looking at is if the glass size makes a difference, in my opinion it does not.  I have both SROs and XLs and a couple of Maxs and noticed zero difference on the clock.  I switched to the Romeo 3 XL for the double dot issue the SROs have.  No double dot on the Romeo 3s that you see with the SRO when pointed into the direction of the sun.

Thanks, I’ve had very good luck with Euro-Optic and also Kenzies Optics.  I’m just not ready to pay street price yet.

As for the wider window, I’m wondering if it will be better for me, since everything I see is “through the window”. I have a very narrow field of vision so I tend to not see what’s not in the window, or very far outside of it.

I’ll have to che k one out at the next match, I’m sure there will be at least a couple in use.

I would like to like the Romeo 3Max but I've had at least 3 (maybe 4 I've lost count) returned for warranty issues.

Another local guy has gone through 6.

One saving grace for the Sig red dots is what appears to be a no questions asked warranty return policy.

Call them up, tell them the dot has an issue, they don't bat an eye, issue a RMA and a shipping label, get a replacement back in about 10 days.

I was going to try an SRO over the winter and see how it fares. What are your thoughts on your SRO experience?

I have 3 SROs, all less than 3 years old. I have two mounted on Glock 17s (primary & backup), and 1 spare that I haven’t decided what to do with yet (covid panic buy) that I use for action pistol/USPSA matches. One of them stopped working at about the 1 year mark. When I opened the cover to replace the battery, a couple of the finger contacts fell out. They must have broken off the circuit board. Trijicon was great, and replaced the optic, but it took just over a month to get it back. Luckily I wasn’t waiting for it.   I like the 5moa dot and have no complaints with the performance. I just wonder if I’d like the bigger window of the XL a little more???

Although, I didn’t realize how expensive they were. They’re almost $200 more than an SRO!!  Does anyone know where the best deals are to find one in stock?  Preferably somewhere that offers free shipping, and no tax?  Maybe my best bet is to wait for Black Friday since I don’t really “need” it just yet.

  15. Bumping this to see if opinions have changed.  I'm now considering one of these to play with on a Carry Optics Glock.  I was thinking about the new Holosun 507Comp as well, but can't make up my mind.  Currently shooting SRO's, but I think I'm going to be needing another optic so now's the time to evaluate...

I just swapped my SRO for a green 507 comp. I fired about 300 rounds through it doing a little testing for competition use. For targets 15 yards and in I preferred the 20moa ring only. Past 15 yards I liked the 2/8 combo. This is what I assume I will use majority of the time. What was interesting was putting a clean target behind a shot up one and doing some shot calling drills firing doubles at match speed i called 100% of my shots correctly between 7 and 20 yards. I’m shooting a match with it tomorrow and will post again. So far I like it, i would be just as happy with a solid 8 moa green dot as well though. The window size is cool but I don’t see how it will be an advantage over the already big SRO

I don’t think it’s an advantage, just “different”. Like I said, I won’t replace any of my SRO’s with it, but the next time I need another red dot, I will definitely consider it.
