Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. Moto, I hope you are doing well and the healing is going as planned. 3 years ago I had a comminuted fracture of my distal 5th metacarpal (try to say that fast 5 times). It required a plate and 5 screws. Because of the plate I cannot fully close or extend my pinky. When I make a fist my 1st knuckle sticks out and I only have about 30 degrees of movement in the metacarpal joint. I am a C class shooter mostly because I don't practice and shoot matches once a month but 2 things really helped me. So take this for what you paid for it. 1) Physical therapy-At first I had almost no movement in that joint and I actually had to force movement into the joint. My Orthopedist was impressed that I got more movement out of it. It just took a lot of time and I had to keep at it. 2) Grip strength exercise-Due to my work I actually have more grip strength in my non-dominant hand. I just had to really start using it! Dominant hand excercise also made a big difference. I also found that the "grippiest" grips make a big difference in one hand shooting.
  2. I have been looking for a pair of Salomon Speedcross 3 locally for quite a while to try and haven't been able to find any. I need to try shoes on before buying because of some foot issues. This weekend I was in Kentucky and stopped into a Gander Mountain. They had The Reebok Outdoor Wild on clearance. The tread looks very similar to Salomon but no cool speed laces. Has anyone tried them and have an opinion? So far I like the fit and the tread grips well. They are very narrow, which I need. I haven't had a chance to shoot a match with them. Just thought I would let people know. Good thing is they were less than $60. George
  3. Keep the pictures coming. Can you take some detail pucs of the frame? I have a couple of slides and I am thinking of building a .40 ss. PS. Hope recovery from surgery goes well.
  4. Nick, do you have your own grinder? If not that made the biggest difference for me. I bought a Baratza refurb and couldn't believe the difference. Even lower priced beans taste much better when ground fresh.
  5. I tried the tongue in the roof of my mouth trick and it works! I have been an off again on again blinker. My range session on Saturday I gave it a try. It didn't work every time but enough that I will continue to use it. I was tracking the sights and could see brass out of my peripheral vision most shots. I think you're on to something.
  6. I use only walnut media, but only because I get it cheap and my brass is always dirty. I haven't tried car polish yet. I still have Dillon polish left.
  7. I saw a thread where people where using mineral spirits in their tumbling media. I used some for the last batch and the brass came out looking great. I just wonder how much and how often people are using mineral spirits. How often do you change media? I've never been overly concerned with shiny brass but this made it easy. Thanks, George
  8. I have a blemish upper I bought a few years ago at a really good price. The only problem it has is 2 "T" marks have a very slight squiggle. I had to look it over several times before I caught it. I built it into a 9mm upper and it has run really well. Like EkuJustice said the other components of an upper and how it was put together make the biggest difference in an AR.
  9. I don't care about the safety. I want to know where to get a friend like that!
  10. Jid2, I really like the lightening cuts you did on your slide. I think they are more eye pleasing than straight cuts and I'm sure more difficult to do. What did you do to get the color contrast on the slide?
  11. I really like the color. I am planning a build and this gives me some ideas. Is the grip skate taped or did you do aluminum oxide on it? I can't tell from the pics.
  12. Thanks Mike. I think I will try a pound of Clays since I mainly shoot 40. I hate changing things if they work .
  13. I've tried several searches and can't find a good answer. I have been using Solo 1000 for quite a while to load 9mm and 40 minor. I also use it to load some .45 general range loads. I can't seem to find any! Locally I can get Unique, Clays, and Red and Blue dot. Which of these would be a good substitute for Solo? I have some Solo left and can wait a little while if it will come back in a reasonable time. Just looking for alternatives. Thanks
  14. I plan to make at least 1 shoot in Chillicothe this year. I shot cowboy action there a few years ago. Hope to see you there.
