  1. Riiight....the only reason I got the vortex is I got it for $800 used. Can't justify Swarovski price. I'm not good enough.
  2. How about in front of the gb? I see some are left bigger there.
  3. Awesome thanks for the replies. Is there a recommended profile that doesn't heat up too fast but is still light? A good compromise of sorts?
  4. I can pull the barrel in minutes. Like I said in my first post, I have access to friends with machine shops/ lathes. Work would be cheap to free.
  5. Current Handguard is pretty light. Midwest ss gen two. Skinny little thing. No extra rails or crap hung anywhere. I am upgrading to an slr lightweight gas block. The aero mount is coming as well. Rear stock is a fairly light magpul fixed. Might try an ace from another rifle but am thinking the gun will just feel more front heavy. I am not neccasarily looking for an ultralight build. Mostly inquiring if having my barrel turned from an hbar profile to??? Would be a worthwhile endeavor. Thank you for your responses so far.
  6. Newer 3 gunner with a couple seasons in and slowly upgrading. Last season the gun was ran with an 18" rifle gas criterion hbar barrel, midwest ss gen2 15" Handguard, jp low mass, adjustable gas, miculek comp, burris tac30 1-4x24 on a pepr mount. Just upgraded to a vortex razor hd 1-6x24 which is a pig. Now I feel the gun is too heavy. I love this barrel, it's a tack driver but it's an hbar profile. I am thinking about having it turned down to lighten up the gun a bit. I have friends with machine shops and can get it done cheap to free. I know some will say just buy a lighter barrel and I will if I have to but prefer to turn mine down if it is believed I can get acceptable results. How will this effect accuracy and does anybody have a recommendation on a profile?
  7. Thats ok. I think it was a great move. It was either allow eight shooters or kill the division. As it was it was almost dead anyway. Around here it defiantly seems the 8 shot rule has pumped life into revolver class. I think it was a nice move.
  8. Never heard of them before but looking at some of their other revolvers the fit and finish makes S&W look like fisher price. Gorgeous guns. Pricy too.
  9. 128 PF across one chono is cutting it closer than I prefer. I feel much more comfortable at 132-135 PF, given the range of conditions and equipment you can find at major matches. Keep in mind that your risk is not going minor--it's going sub-minor, which means you are shooting for no score. I agree wholeheartedly. I usually aim for 130+. This is what this load came out to so I'm running it until I can work up something better for the uspsa season. Right now it's just plates around here. I still stick with my original point that it's just going to take some load development for folks to get this thing dialed in for competition. Same as any other revolver or auto. I for one enjoy that part of the equation. I sold my 627pc to buy this gun and I'd do it all over again without question. That gun took just as much load development but I had to use special brass. With the 929 I run whatever 9mm brass stays in the moonclips and smile because I have an endless supply of it.
  10. I am using the same range brass I use for my autos. Numerous headstamps. Lee u die. My loads are right at 128pf in my 929 with 165g bullets. I have about 1000 rounds through the gun now and no issues with sticky chambers with this load. I did have slightly sticky chambers with a shorter oal and the same load. I think this is just going to be one of those guns that you have to find a load for and run it. The nice thing is if the load makes PF in the 929 it should in any of your autos as well. I did hit the chambers with steel wool wrapped around a cleaning brush.
  11. I have purchased two new S&W revolvers in the last 2 years. Neither were "right" in my opinion. The 627pc was a complete mess, barrel on sideways, crown all screwed up, burrs inside, hammer needed shimming to keep from hitting the frame. I didn't trust that S&W was going to fix the gun in a timely manner so a buddy and I fixed it all up. My 929 was in better shape but still looked like they cut the crown then cut the rifling. Neither were even close to being hand tuned like the PC claims. I would really like to see what they call hand tuning down there. Personally I think current S&W revolvers are pretty much a joke compared to the older ones but....they are really the only show in town (for competition), so that is what I shoot. Very few competitive shooters are going to use them without extensive tuning anyway. When they are all tuned up they are sweet.
  12. I have about 500-700 rounds through my 929 mostly at the plate match's. Loads have been right around 125pf with 147 grain bullets. Gun has ran flawlessly. Only issues I am having is some of my crimps/ oal on my hand loads are not right and am having bullets come loose. Also an occasional light primer hit with some of my brass that has thinner rims. Nothing I can blame on the gun. I actually love this damn thing. So does most everybody that shoots it. For some reason I acquire plates much faster than my 4" guns.
  13. Google is not much help unless I order from another country. Anybody know where I can get the txt0107? Thanks Dave
  14. That's it, I am done with idpa! Of course I never shoot it because it sounds like a pain in the rear. This just confirms my opinion, at least in my head.
  15. Cut the hammer off and put on the big butt. Still haven't shot it.
  16. Got my 929 yesterday. Seems the be much better built than my 627 was. The crown looks like crap though. Sure looks like s&w cuts their crowns before they cut the rifling. Going to shoot it a little later today.
  17. Thanks for the info guys. I ordered a front sight from Warren, been wanting to try one of his anyway. As for quality, I am not expecting much. After my new 627pc experience I fully expect to have to go through the whole gun to make it right. S&W really ought to just stop it with the PC crap. They aren't tuning anything and everybody knows it. Oh well I enjoy tuning my guns and I'm sure it will be nice when it is all worked over.
  18. I pulled the trigger on a 929 and it should be here next week. I want to get a fiberoptic front sight coming for it. Looks to be a pinned front, is that correct? How about the height? I already ordered some revo supply moonclips for it. Anybody try them yet? Are they playing nice with most brass? Any other thoughts or insight on this new toy? Anybody bob their hammers and chamfer the chambers yet? Picks?
  19. I have one and also get the chance to shoot with him once in awhile. Great guy and great product. He has shared a lot of revolver knowledge with me and was very instrumental in the progress I have made with a wheel gun.
  20. Put the stock spring back in. Winchester Primers 37/48 fired, Federal Primers 48/48 fired. Guess I better stock up on Federal primers....... how light were you able to drop you4 da pull ? Which firing pin you have in ? I don't know why but I tried an apex comp pin in my 627 PC gun and started having light strikes. Went back to the factory one and they went away. I know another 627 shooter that had the same exact results. Both pins were bought at the same time about a month ago. In both guns that was the only thing changed.
  21. I got my last couple strain screws off ebay. Apex has firing pins.
  22. I fondled one in the store. Looked actually pretty decent for the price. Looked at Wally weirdos across the store and it seemed pretty clear.
