  1. This. They are brass. I toss them in with non-reloadable brass.
  2. I noticed the same thing with the follower holding back the slide. I filed it down so it doesnt bind and doesnt lock back, but I am not a fan of how it rides along the top of the follower. Guess I need to switch it out. The mag cycles great though and I got 20 reloadable in the stock 140mm mag without any mods.
  3. Reading through the previous threads, sounds like no issues with using nickel cases other than a bit harder so fewer reloads. Just wanted to ask specifically, anyone load 9mm major with the nickel Speer +P 9mm cases (like the ones used for Gold Dot/LEO)? I would plan to leave the cases at matches unless it's easy to gather. TIA!
  4. Just want to confirm - the Dawson mag followers for STI (I'm looking specifically at 9mm for my open gun) are designed to NOT lock back? I can modify other followers, but if this is designed as such, that would be great too.
  5. For those using stock followers, are you modifying them to not lock back?
  6. Has anyone used the combo of: Stock mag/spacer/baseplate and just added the Grams springs/followers? I will trim the followers to not lock back. How many fit in a 170 this way?
  7. For those of you who have non-tuned, and didn't describe it, did you just replace the followers/springs? Any body modifications?
  8. Looks like it would draw too much attention.
  9. No issues yet, that I know of - my 9mm open is on it's way still! But in preparation, I only have mags for my .40 Ltd which were Brazos tuned and need to buy 9mm mags. Want to know if I should just get factory 140/170s and swap internals or spend the money on tuned mags from the start.
  10. Just a general question. I know there are plenty of posts about using tuned mags - Has anyone gotten their STI 9mm open to run on non-tuned mags consistently (ie just replacing spring, basepad, and/or follower)? There seems to be a shortage of tuned 9mm 170's and 140's out there for less than $175 and I'm not interested in buying the Dawson kit to experiment.
  11. After doing a bunch of dry-fire practice with the 1:00-3:00 outer overlap on the limited rig, I am really liking it. Easy on-off, not bulky. Will now need to try it at the range.
  12. Agree with above. What is your budget. After buying my first 2 complete uppders, i have assembled the next 8 myself and wont look back. Piston, long range 24", ar pistols, etc. Not that hard with a small investment in tools that you end up reusing.
  13. So i was playing around with an offset front overlap for a Limited setup. I wear a 36 belt and tried the overlap from front just right of midline to approximately 2 o clock. I put my DAA racer holster at the 3 o clock and have the DAA mag holders at 12, 11, 10, 9 o clock. Definitely easier to get on and off compared to overlap in back. Anyone try this?
  14. Thanks fuentes. SinceI havent put the money into an open gun yet, i plan to go for a 9 for open eventually. For SS though, the 40 is looking more attractive as I dont shoot much 45 and wont have to stock large primers, etc.
  15. Curious to see what other people do: 1. Where do you have your belt overlap (front, back, other) 2. What division do you use this setup for? For production i have it overlap in the front so my holsters can wrap all the way around the back from my hip without much thickness. Now that I'm going to try limited, i wonder if I should overlap in the back, to allow the mag pouches to sit up front easily.
  16. I got the "AR" version of the Midway bag and love it. My pistol mags go in a separate pouch so I can put AR mags for 3gun, etc, in it.
  17. Their website was lagged behind their actual renewals. Give them a call, chances are it was renewed already.
  18. I am just doing this for fun and as a hobby, not to make the rounds on the tourneys or whatnot. Since I use a Hornady LNL press, changing out dies is not tough and I use a micrometer adjustment for my powder drop. I already reload for other rifle calibers, so ultimately, working up loads in other calibers is just part of the fun of it anyway. Not to mention, if I get a 9mm open gun, I can use it for 3 gun as well.
  19. Thanks for the comments. I have dies for 9mm and .45 as I had originally planned to go 9mm major and 45 for SS. Sounds like I should just stick to my original plan.
  20. Not sure if that is a good thing while you are still actively shooting as that is taking concentration away from you. If it helps motivate you during the stage, I guess maybe it can be helpful, but I would think you should just move forward and reassess after the stage is complete and then re-evaluate yourself. Thinking about how good your quad load was may force you into screwing up another quad load in the same stage (hypothetically). Reminds me of the Stuart Smalley skits from SNL "because I'm good enough, smart enough, and gosh darn it people like me..."
  21. Having a Limited .40 pistol, I am now seriously considering going with .40 for open and SS so I can load the same major PF ammo across the board. I've read the threads and researched out the wazoo and while it seems there's a handful of people doing so, it's not too popular. Is my cursory market analysis correct? I understand you loose about 4 rounds on open, and the mags can be a bit picky on SS, but why aren't people doing this more? Do those 4 rounds in open make that big of a difference (please recognize I'm not an open shooter)?

    Iaido?

Anyone here train in iaido? I just got a custom iaito made when I visited Japan and will be taking up lessons in the next month or so. Figure I would supplement my "blaster" with "a more elegant weapon for a more civilized age" and that it would help with my focus by cross-training.
  23. No luck finding this barrel - who was the manufacturer? I see Bar sto makes a drop in for the 6" on their website.
