I am known for wanting heavy ass guns so I reached out to Patriot Defense to build me some custom brass grips and for the public and they took on the task! Here is a sneak peak of the current progress.

The gun in the photos is the Phoenix Swiss Redback HEAVY DA/SA

These grips have gone live! Looks like they're using your photos as well

Did you ever get a holster and get it modified for the thumbrest?   Would it be possible to post some pictures?

    Thank you

I am using a Volquartsen holster

    https://volquartsen.com/products/1334-holster-for-mamba-tf

The one I linked is for the regular Ruger Mk pistols, not the 22/45s.

I then used the dremel cutting tool to cut away some material to fit the thumbrest. It's not the tidiest job, but nobody will ever see that part of the holster anyway.

  3. Last shooting position in a stage, there's a metal plate with a no-shoot nearby. Thought I had a good run, until the RO points out a hole on the edge of the no-shoot. I accept it and hit approve. Only later when reviewing a recording did I realise that I only fired one shot at the plate, and that there was no way I could hit both the NS and plate with the same bullet. So it had to have been a hole from a previous run that wasn't patched. As it was on the edge of the target (about 2mm into the scoring border), it may have been missed by the patchers.

So, lesson learnt, quickly inspect the targets during the final walkthrough, especially the no-shoots.

I will pass these part number for others.

When ordering make sure you order the Cam with the correct thread count for your holster hardware.  I think the 20 mm screw length would work for most holsters.  If you feel like you need a longer screw or are unsure you can order Cam Levers that have longer screws, just search the Web site.

You can go one of two routes.  You can order a Cam Lever that has a thread count that matches the hardware on your holster or you can order one with a thread count that matches a Nylon Lock nut you buy from a store like Lowes or Home Depot.  I prefer using the Nylon Lock nut.  Both work fine as I have used both.

#20-24 Thread count matches the Nylon Lock nut I have used on some holster

#8-32 Thread count matches the hardware on my Longs Shadow Holster

    Part Number  -  20WU97

Thank you, this is very useful, especilaly since I just lost one of the retention adjustment screws in my holster.

It’s very disappointing they won’t send parts to the US.  If something breaks you have a very expensive paper weight. It’s a real negative in my opinion, and I wish I knew it before I purchased the pistol (which I really like).

I don't understand why they don't. Have you asked their importer, The Attic Importers in Minot? They should easily be able to bring in all sorts of uncontrolled spare parts.

I asked Patriot Defense to fit this however they can. Did you have any trigger work done to yours ? I don’t know if it’s because I did trigger work to it that the safety activates so often now.

I have worked on the trigger, but I don't think it's related to that. I also have a stock Redback light and the safety is also easy to bump up on that.

which safety did you fit? I had just sent Patriot the flat safety to install, completely flat.

It is a factory slim left safety. Same profile as the safety on the right side of the gun in its default configuration.

I don't think a totally flat safety exists as a factory option, and I can's shave the safety down like you have and still keep it legal for IPSC Production.

Nils just won nationals with a Canik Rival! Break out the champagne ladies and gentlemen!

@ima45dv8 If Canik doesn’t get it’s own section on the factory pistol section after this, I don’t know what it will take!

    🎉🎉🎉🎊🎊🎊🥳🥳🥳👏👏👏

He just smashed the Pan American IPSC Championships too. Even though it was in Production Optics Light, I think his score would have won Production Optics as well (beating Mr Racaza).

It seems like he pushed for speed and maintained decent the accuracy to compensate for the point loss in Minor

    Interesting analysis.

In those minor divisions where the times were faster, they're only competing against other minor shooters. I guess the theory is that he still shot conservatively in order to minimise his points loss against the major shooters.

Also interesting to see classic dominated by minor shooters, I always thought minor wasn't competitive in that division

Got DQ’ed at Mystery Mountain 3 gun…the one year I actually did not pay for it (I was better then). Shooting box fed Saiga 12 which actually was extremely reliable. I put safety on within such force the top cover came flying off….and unknown to me when safety extends close to vertical it actually drops hammer. Quite spectacular when top cover blew off 30 feet into air. Oh well…I continued with squad taping and help reset. Disappointing yes but there is always next time. I don’t get too upset over stuff like that.

Ouch. Surely that wouldn't be a DQ if it was clearly seen that your fingers were outside of the trigger guard? Or did the shot impact within 3m of you or in an unsafe direction?

Yes - just my personal preferences.  I find the JP triggers a bit too heavy and prefer 45 degree throw safeties.  The PRS lite stock adds a bit of weight to the back and is very solid.  It’s still more than half a pound lighter than my MPX and the weight is to the rear so it swings very fast.

However, the comp is pinned and welded from the factory so it’s not an SBR and it’s included on the “basic” all purpose carbine build: https://www.jprifles.com/buy.php?item=RR-JP5G940/TCAPC

I would have liked the competition comp but there really isn’t much of a difference between them (according to JP).  It’s still a 9mm through a long barrel so not a lot of blast to actually use for each shot.

    Thanks for the review.

Does the JP-5 accept any standard AR-15 safety? I also prefer the 45 degree throw safeties
