  1. Hahahahahahahahahahaha Now that the thread is officially derailed........what do you guys think of the new BoomFab Bolt Carriers? Handled one in Illinois this weekend and it was light and looked blingy!
  2. Was simply making a point about criticisms not always being welcomed. I witnessed lots of issues with the LaRue targets (some never came back up when they did fall), and did not weight everyone's ammo to see what they were shooting. Most of the complaints I heard about them were from people's conversations OUTside of our squad when we were waiting to shoot other stages or before the prize table,..... and I was happy to hear they weren't going to be used next year and they listened to the complaints AT the match. On here, and other forums, there is an expectation to keep criticism to yourself.
  3. match was fun once again......sucks that winter will prevent another match from happening til spring!
  4. Do you have a youtube video of this......or am I going to have to find a cat to spray with water to see what happens?
  5. Since this thread has derailed a few times in the past 6 pages, I don't feel the least bit guilty about taking it taking it off track again. 1- I've shot major matches with little guns for the past two years or a little better and have yet to fire a rifle round other than 55g FMJ at a major- and this includes BRM3G and shooting out to 490 at Texas Multigun. I wasn't at FB and don't know the particulars, but I think it's unreasonable for the answer to be "shoulda used heavier bullets." Hitting too low on the target on the other hand is an acceptable answer, just like hitting the arm on a MGM flasher won't make it swing. 2- Andy Horner has been running this match using this scoring for 6 years, and Fort Benning used it too if I remember correctly. It's his way of saying accuracy is important. Don't like the penalties? Don't shoot sloppy. Edit to add- my butt doesn't hurt, just countering your points. And that's not the same kind of that Kurt has been giving Jesse when he replies. It's a real hahaha about the 1....I'm not saying that calibrating the targets to 55fmj is wrong (and flat out agree that those targets are awesome....for sniper training, but not 3-gun).....but I learned from watching people shoot them last year (and complain) when I shot that match in Heavy, so when I went there for this year I knew to not bring 55gr. Guys who shot there last year were still making comments about it. THEY had a complaint or criticism about the match, that may or may not have been expressed clearly, so nothing changed. I was not confident that the targets wouldn't be there due to criticism, so I planned ahead. (SOMEONE ELSE'S CRITICISM between shooters at a match) 2....MY CRITICISM that was less expressed to other shooters at the match. I'm not saying he should change it, or that it would be a reason I wouldn't come back, it's just what I didn't like about the match. I'm still shooting for fun, and the match was fun....I just had more fun when I wanted to go fast and let the scores fall where they will. I knew that criticism...whether mine or someone else's, would garner responses quickly. Point is that the perception for a lot of us is keep your criticisms of matches to yourselves, say something positive and tell everyone how awesome they are.
  6. Now thats a good quesiton! Not only do they take the best prizes but they also mess up the curve and depending on which Pro shows up determines your overall percentage... That was the inherent problem I saw with getting 3GunNation Semi-Pro points from major matches this year. Of course, I'm not sure how the logistics of extracting only the semi-pro shooters scores from those matches would have worked to end up with semi-pro points winners from each major match.
  7. Not based on the complaints I heard when there. I kept my yap shut there. I had a lot of one shot one hit with the long range stage and did not shoot a target twice that I thought I had hit the first time.
  8. Part of the issues with the positive reviews come from the forum guidelines. They get squirrelly when you say anything negative about a specific match or person. You end up with only positive happy things said. Gives a bit of a false impression. But it does normally make things more comfortable when you don't have a couple knuckleheads bickering like school girls about some two year old call an RM or MD made at this match or that. You know, hypothetically. That may be one issue....another is that if someone new like me (or maybe not new) says something negative about a match or prize table, we get barked at like crazy. So, we simply stay quiet about the match, or we only interject the details about the things we DID like. Being a newer shooter, a set perspective about how things "should be" hasn't been established by years of being around a certain core group of shooters that influence each other. Also, being new and not coming from USPSA or any other shooting sport, the idea of shooting ammo that is more suited for a particular match or shooting ammo that WILL work for any match (not SHOULD work) isn't foreign. Case in point.....I'll give you two examples and lets see if anyone gets butthurt here as a social experiment. 1: Fallen Brethren.... I personally did NOT have a problem shooting the LaRue targets at Fallen Brethren. I knew the match I was going to and shot 69gr SMK projectiles at EVERY target in that match. The LaRue targets fell for me on every shot. Those who were shooting 55gr FMJ bulk ammo at 300 yards, hitting low on the target, were upset about the RO's being able to consistently call hits when the targets weren't falling. I agree that regular steel targets are better suited for 3-gun, but bringing the right ammo for the match would have seemed the smart thing to do. 2: Blue Ridge.... I'd like to know if there would be any actual BIG change in how people placed if that match was scored like all the other matches that use time plus scoring. Is that used as a mental thing to make the match difficult, or Andy Horners way of punishing people who don't shoot USPSA? REAL questions, and here is a little secret....I didn't care if I hit A's and had more fun not worrying about it.
  9. Not to derail you two entertaining us.....but I didn't help that situation much. "oooo....shiny object"
  10. They won't let me fly the plane, I like my rectum unmolested, and I don't trust someone else to take care of a case with $8-10,000 worth of guns and ammo that I worked hard for. I haven't flown since 1993 and didn't care for the experience back then.Plus, I bought a little Escape that gets around 30mpg and can listen to books on tape on the road if solo. It cost around $150 round trip for fuel and the number of days off work (what hurts the most) would remain the same regardless if I flew or got up early and drove. You can shave a day or two by flying and you'll be more refreshed if you do. But if you simply won't fly like a lot of us then I guess it's on you to decide if you can handle missing more work. It will be interesting to see who shoots which matches. If shooting a Fri-Sunday match, I would drive half a day Thursday and drive home afterwards on Sunday. If flying, I would have to fly Thursday and fly back Sunday. No differences unless the match is far enough away that I couldn't drive home after OR the prize table was so late that I couldn't leave early enough on Sunday.

  12. Most certainly not. The AR15.com/ Rockcastle Pro-Am is the 4th weekend as always. That close together will be difficult for many to attend both matches due to work constraints, travel time and expenses,..... Love shooting at Rockcastle and loved shooting the Pro-Am this year. Considering the already established match that sells out in seconds, I would have thought scheduling those two matches further apart at the same venue would have been a better idea. The wife and I are staying all week. A couple nights in Nashville. A day trip to Jeremy Parker's personal moonshine still. Maybe a cave tour or two and it time for more 3 gun on sat/sun. A luxury we do not all have unfortunately. My businesses close when I'm out of town.

Love shooting at Rockcastle and loved shooting the Pro-Am this year. Considering the already established match that sells out in seconds, I would have thought scheduling those two matches further apart at the same venue would have been a better idea. I'm still trying to figure that out myself. Out of a handful of matches that I wouldn't want to risk contending with....that would be the top match I would not compete with in the middle of the country. Not saying both won't be successful, BUT if I were going to make a push for the Pro Series I would have to decide if that push/match would be worth missing the Pro-Am. There's no way I could afford that much time off work, or would want to spend 9 hours driving to and from two weeks in a row. You could choose to go to a match further away by traveling to another region I guess, but I would be more inclined to pick one or the other. There is nothing but damage for the Pro-Am too, IMO. There won't be an issue in it selling out, BUT those top end "semi-pro" shooters that make up a good chunk of the top 15-30% of scores at the Pro-Am may not make the trip twice. That could lead to an even bigger gap between the Pro shooters who destroy those stages, and the next set of scores

  15. If a shooter isn't willing to make the sacrifices in both time and money to shoot more than one Regional, thinking they want to qualify for the Pro Series, how are they going to make the commitment to shoot at least 3 matches the next year in Pro? I guess it would be easier to work out if you live close to Tulsa for the Pro matches. You are 100% correct that if someone CANT commit the time that would be required to shoot multiple regional matches spread out across the country,, the Pro Series isn't a necessarily the best place for him. My point is, you want participation, of course with ALL of the pro matches now in Tulsa (one place).....Those people who are 50-75% committed, especially those of us within an afternoons drive time, would take that extra step towards 100% if heading towards the pro series qualifier! Someone like me, in Kansas City, could leave after work Friday to shoot Pro Series matches and be back to tuck my kids into bed Sunday evening. With under 120 people who shot Semi-Pro this year, and me taking 36th by paying $50 to 3 GunNation and shooting matches I was going to shoot anyways.....do you think there are 200+ gung-HO people ready to not shoot the Pro-Am, Fallen Brethren, or other favorite match for a minute chance to score well enough for the qualifier? I do realize that more than those out for Semi-Pro points would be shooting there....the point is the allowance of 200ish at each match, for matches spread out that far. I'd like to see them ALL sell out if possible.
  16. Hahahahahahahahahahaha I think some people were planning on Horner and Jordan skipping the International match and picking up big points there. Didn't look like it worked out that way!
  17. One match only....because it's four events.Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD If only requiring one match's score to qualify for a shot at the Pro Series, I think attendance should be pretty good. If there would have been a requirement to shoot 3 of the 4 matches, with as far as they are apread out, it may have been more difficult to get a larger group of willing participants compared to the previous system with substantially more matches to gather points from. Thank you for the answer to that question!
  18. A valid question for a lot of people would be if they need to shoot one or three matches in order to qualify for semi pro points.
  19. I'll save you a bunch of money. There are no matches that are fun to shoot in Heavy! Gotta disagree there. Fallen Brethren is a fun match to shoot Heavy Optics in. I shot it with my OBR last year and the longer range stuff was just fun....the rest you shoot with the same 9mm and SA shotgun afterall. As for Heavy Irons....I like my glock and my left arm is allergic to pumping motions. Plus, they get all upset when you use a red dot or scope.
  20. I can tell this is gonna get interesting to watch and see all the responses. With that said, for many people, this is going to come down to them weighing whether or not they want to shoot certain matches that they loved, OR shooting the 3GN regional matches. The dates overlap or are close to a couple big matches, which in all honesty, is just about unavoidable. Even if they were moved one weekend up or down, how many people here really have the funds to visit BOTH and take time off work for BOTH? It's got to come down to what is worth more to you. Do you want to go all in and push for a chance to enter the Pro Series? Are you in it just for fun and the Pro series is not what you are aspiring to? Weigh those out and you will see that the category you fall into isn't where others fall into. For me....I'm going to shoot the major matches I shot this year, plus or minus certain matches here and there, and in divisions other than TacOps if the match looks like it would be fun to shoot in Heavy or in Limited.
  21. It should make for some better episodes when getting to see some fresh faces pushing for a chance to turn pro! I mean, Jesse has nice hair and that tan, but sometimes the viewers want to see a normal guy shooting! Haha
  22. Just remember.....people who have money don't waste money for frivolous things that are unneeded! ;-) If they are identical with the exception of choke tubes and shim for the stock, there's no reason for me to waste $300 to have a grey color on the handguard that I would likely stipple thru anyways.
  23. There were 119 people in the semi pro series this year and something like 55 in the pro series. I took 36th after some rough stages in each match, but I ended up in good company IMO. Since I wouldn't be able to make the matches, that's one open spot of less than 175 competitors out of an "approximate" 200 people at each regional match. You have to figure that there will be a certain number of people who back out for next year for various reasons and a certain number of people who will jump into the race. I think they will be fine around 200 shooters and I don't think anyone will lose out on semipro points if they are signing up for matches on time.
  24. Was hoping to shoot the divisional series next year. Sorry to see it go. I hope their regional match setup works out for them. I've got a list of matches I'm planning to attend for next year. I may try to attend one of these matches, likely at Rockcastle, but may not have the chance/money. The matches are spread out enough I wouldn't be able to attend more than one and also attend the matches I was already looking forward to. On a positive side, with one body governing the semipro matches, the matches should be more equal in comparison. Hopefully that allows more "shooter equity" as I think someone called it, because getting semipro points in comparison to whatever top pro happened to be able to show up or not show up to a major match could really skew results for the points series.
