  1. Lol! My eyes are burning and I'm not sure why.......are cats and dogs getting along?
  2. This is coming from a guy who, while old, still uses REAL iron sights to shoot those distances. I've seen the grey hair in person, and still didn't believe it possible.
  3. hey........those spray cans of paint at WalMart went from $0.96 to $0.98 per can at my WalMart! The economy and such
  4. I agree with the idea and concept of shooting equity....as explained to me by Rob Romero at Fallen Brethren. The problem is multifaceted tho. In heavy shotgun stages in the woods, if I'm one of the last groups to go, everyone has cleared shooting lanes thru grass and trees to the point where I could care less if the targets are painted. The angle if the sun is completely uncontrollable unless we all demand that all rifle target shooting lanes must be in the middle of a field and with shooting direction North or South. Pistol bays will cast shadows in various angles throughout the day and aside from making all stages symmetrical and no one shooting from 11:30am to 1:30pm when the sun is straight up in the sky. I like the idea of painting steel between squads. I don't think that's too much to ask. I also like the idea of doing those things that you CAN do in order to maximize shooter equity across all divisions.
  5. Groupies to carry your gear and bring you your beer? :-) Pro #30.....see you guys at the Rock! Thanks again Mrs. Chico!
  6. Anyone willing to travel from the UK should get an automatic slot - best of luck! gotta agree there.......especially since he's not one of those dirty liberal brits! If you get in and need guns to shoot during the match, find me and I'll be glad to have you use mine or will have extra guns with me if you don't have something lined up!
  7. sorry about that......got all excited with my PC and Mac since the timers appeared slightly off. One may have jumped the buzzer a little, but betting I'm one of those duplicates. Which one was faster, Mac or PC? What's the trigger pull weight on that MAC compared to the PC? Might need to get one for next year! hahaha....heavy trigger on the MacBook (laptop key ya know), zero pound pull on the PC since its a touchscreen and I managed to break my mouse last Friday....remembering this at 9:28:30.00 sent me into a mad rush to make sure my finger was near the screen and ready since the PC is direct wired into the high speed and the Mac is WiFi. Timer on the Mac was faster tho...would change numbers roughly 1/2 second faster.
  8. I'm wondering if the last three numbers in the verification code before the decimals are the spots in line, or maybe the last number and two decimals....just thinking out loud of course......when I double clicked I have the exact same sequence code, but 0062.35 and 0226.16 at the end.
  9. you can attach it with a supplied clip and screws or do like I do and use them on Tek-Loks. I also built a chest rig out of kydex for the shotgun shells and attached the Qualoads directly to it with chicago screws. I use the chest rig any time I may need to go prone, high round count stages, .....I have 2-4 sets of 8-up Qualoads set up for both strong and weak hand loading and a couple quickcaddies for my belt in addition to a MME 4 shell caddie. All options on the table in the range bag depending upon the stage.
  10. sorry about that......got all excited with my PC and Mac since the timers appeared slightly off. One may have jumped the buzzer a little, but betting I'm one of those duplicates.
  11. Factory ammo that has run the best in my rifle has been Federal Gold Medal Match.....but what I have left is in several large ammo cans with dessicant packs and no intention of opening. I've started reloading and went with 150-155 projectiles like Trapr recommended above. Right now the load I'm playing with is 155gr Sierra Palma running right at 2800fps (+/- 10-15fps). Plan to accuracy test it further this week or weekend. I am within driving distance of Sierra's outlet store and get a nice discount going there, otherwise I would be using 150gr FMJ's or something cheaper. I picked up another 600 projectiles today and visually inspected them, and weighing them out at 155.4-155.7grains each. Yes, I'm anal about it.....I don't want an odd duck sneaking in and causing an issue I guess.
  12. no mag cap rules for HTO.......giggity Confirmed division change to HTO this morning with Mr. Tischauser. Now, anyone better than me (theres a lot of ya!), please remember you are only allowed 20rd mags in HTO.
  13. Well at this match and many others we shoot for an hour sit for an hour. It's a huge waste of time to be honest. Most matches do this with the exception of FNH and the new Gen III Gun matches which use a half day shooting format. Shoot am one day PM the next. I shot half day format at the Noveske 3-gun in Colorado last April and loved it. You had half the day off to leave the range and do whatever, and half the day on the range doing work. I'd love to see how it works at a bigger match with bigger attendance rates, but unfortunately cannot make FNH this year. This match is still awesome and hoping to get in again.
  14. I wouldn't mind a match like that from time to time (not all the time or overly common), but would want 10-12 stages instead of 8. Would be fun to say "XYZ match is a burner, bring redbull, cleates, clothes you can sprint in, plus bio freeze and Tylenol"
  15. But where do I but this "practice" you speak of? I want to be good NOW! I have amazon prime....can I get free two day shipping?
  16. I think you're all saying the same thing, just not with the same tone/verbiage. All methods could win you a match if you shoot fast and don't miss. For a relatively new shooter like me, deuces/quads is faster and easier to learn, BUT I still practice weak hand loading and keep caddies in my range bag. Right now I have caddies for every method, and my Qualoads are set for BOTH weak and strong hand. You wouldn't ONLY practice offhand shooting and never consider reverse kneeling with your rifle when a barricade is available, right? I've been playing with positions, mock stages, and so on.....each method has major drawback in certain scenarios. Weak hand deuces/quads becomes and easy way to catch your barrel on a wall or obstacle if you have a tightly packed stage with walls/halls/doors.
  17. somin bout a single shot almost flipping the MGM flasher over! and the loud BANG
  18. Counter point. Why should we make stages easier for some types of guns or equipment. That is what divisions are for. I don't want to make short shotgun courses with 12 rounds or less because not everyone has an AKDAL or a Saiga. I don't think dumbing down the courses of fire does anything other than make the match less fun.Pa I agree. You still want to complex courses of fire you would always provide, but you may want to look at your par times to see if the average shooter in that division could finish.
  19. I hear what you're saying, but to a lot of these "new guys", order of finish at club matches is really important (they aren't going to the "big matches" yet, remember), and getting to compare their score to shooters with very similar equipment is exactly what many of them are looking for. Positive reinforcement is critical at the beginner level more than any other. Think about it this way: which of these two shooters is more likely to come back and shoot next month... the one who came in 5th in a 9 person division where everyone shot the same kind of stuff, or the one who came in 34th in a 40 person match where 3/4s of the shooters had vastly better equipment? Neither.....the one who had the most fun and the best attitude when shooting with good people is the guy who is coming back! My first match, and my buddies first match, I was the guy who came in 35ish out of 45ish people, and my buddy was 40ish out of 45ish people. I also took DEAD LAST in my division at my first big match 2 months later at the Midwest3Gun. We both came back, pushed hard to get better, and now are the "staples" at local matches who help RO and attend the big matches. We brought friends with us who took 10th-15th out of 25 people in TacOps division and have yet to come back, but they had a different attitude about things at the time. There is one guy, and he is one of my favorite shooters there, that takes last or near last at every monthly match while timing out on 1/2-3/4 of the stages.....BUT he is having fun shooting and enjoys hanging out with good people. The guy who shows up expecting to be in the top 5 and doesn't come back because he is butthurt about taking a bottom 50% because he isn't given a special division.....well, I want him in YOUR squad, not mine. I like having guys in my squads who are both interested in doing well, but also there for fun and to be around good people regardless of how they finish.
  20. At club/local level matches....are any of you really worried about divisions? I'm not being sarcastic, but instead serious. Every month at the location of the midwest3gun we have a 3-gun match and while you can mark down your division you are shooting in, the results are posted by total time for the match and with mixed divisions. At another monthly/club level 3-gun matches and USPSA matches in Kansas everything is broken down by division and also listed as overall. At the Gateway 3-Gun matches in Illinois you get practiscore results broken down by division and overall as well. There are no prizes based on finish at these local matches, tho the Gateway matches do have a drawing for a gun at each match, so does it really matter if showing up with a pump shotgun, police issued 15rd .40 Glock, and department issued AR15 with iron sights gets you lumped in Limited/TacIrons? I mean, I like the idea of match directors taking the initiative of adding a division for issued guns/"run what you brung"/.... just as long as we aren't neutering the limited division. Especially after I just paid for a 9mm 2011 and TTI tuned mags to head my way to shoot limited with!
