  1. Ken sent me the round counts...."Shotgun 104, pistol 118, rifle 86." Ken has a few of the small MGM autopoppers that can be a bitch to hit at times, and available space out to 400 yards for rifle....I recommend bringing 120-130 rifle if you feel you are gonna tag your shots with minimal misses, more if not. I'll be taking 150 shotgun, 200 pistol, and 150-180 rifle.
  2. I prefer an online registration with the option of mailing your check, entry form, and confirmation number in. I don't like sending my card info over the web, but a check written specifically to one entity that I can put a stop on if it never shows is a little more comforting. I have passed on entering for matches that supposedly sell spots out fast and there is no way to know if I got in or not, so there is no way for me to early bird book a hotel room at a lower cost, or plan the time off work. Nothing against those matches, I just don't like the idea of wasting a check and my time, only to find out that I am number 75 on the waiting list and will have my check mailed back to me if 75 people don't back out of the match. If 75 people DO back out of the match, I have to hustle and find a hotel room long after everyone else got theirs, meaning I'm paying a premium. I'd like to know, in short order, if I am spending $200-300 on an entry fee and making plans. Keep in mind that I am fairly new to 3-Gun, and I do understand why someone who has gone to a match since it started would prefer to have preference over new shooters or an earlier registration date, possibly seeing it as loyalty. As a new shooter, I see this as the "good ole boy" system of taking care of each other and "F" the new guy who hasn't been before, because if there are 300 returning shooters and 300 spots, no one new gets in. I'm exaggerating to make a point, obviously, but I had a hard time bringing myself to enter a match this year that told me my money wasn't good until all returning shooters had a week or two to take all the spots they wanted first. As a new shooter, it's like being told I can eat out back behind the kitchen of the restaurant with a pallet for a table, IF the seasoned shooters leave any scraps after their buffet.
  3. If it's secure enough, it will work fine. I made a chest rig for the Taccom Qualoads and have been using it all year without much issue. If it's high enough on your chest, you don't have many issues going prone when needed. If it is not secure, don't run it. Take it to the range and get some time in shooting with it on, reloading from it, and so on.
  4. Used a long piece of dowel rod to limit my M2 for hunting. Worked fine. I made it the correct length and rounded the flat ends off. I've also made a shorter plug out of dowel rod for Blue Ridge to limit me to 8 rounds in the tube so that I don't screw up and find myself in Open.
  5. Post up a review when you get it. Interested to see how the eye relief and so on are. I can't justify another Vortex 1-6 for my .22 upper.
  6. Drive between stages....and something 4x4 or AWD might be nice if it rains. The "hill climb" to get up to a few stages seemed steep in my wimpy little Ford Escape. Counting down the days until Babe's Chicken, Sweetie Pie's Ribeyes.....and oh ya, the match of course.
  7. Essentially what I expected. Thank you to Ken Flood and Adam's Arms for helping to line things out.
  8. Did you contact them about it or how did this come in to the picture? They contacted me. I'm sure steel targets, timers, materials for barricade walls,....were bought and there is a gap in the funds. They could have been spending the time trying to figure out how to handle that gap in refunds, in not sure. I'm glad to have something on the way right now.
  9. It appears that Adams Arms is trying to help fill a gap. I've accepted some product in place of a refund. At this point, I'm considering it something when confidence for a refund was minimal. I don't know what happened, why the match was cancelled, why refunds have taken so long, why uncashed checks and money orders haven't been returned, and the rumor mill has been spinning hard, but at least my concerns about this will be over when I receive the product in the mail. Thank you Adams Arms for stepping up to help out with this situation, and I'm glad to be done.
  10. Thanks Tim. I had a couple more from today that seemed just a hair faster. Tischauser recommended opening my loading port and little and it seemed to smoothen things out a little for me, and let me try to go a little faster. I still weak hand reload and practice a little with 4 shell caddies and a couple AP 4x4's, because I may need a ton of shells for a big shotgun stage with specialty shells (buck/slugs) and don't want to confuse which shells I'm loading. The matchsaver has also come in handy several times this season. I don't like caddies on my shotgun anywhere else...extra weight and slow reloading.
  11. I put mine on. I made the mistake of drilling and tapping all the way through the release instead of stopping short, but it hasn't given me any issues so far.
  12. I used blue loctite on my M2 with the Arredondo and haven't had an issue.....and I'm not exactly gentle with my shotgun! The arrendondo is also nice when practicing reloads and ejecting shells through the port into of chambering them....you have a big lever to trip the shells out. I like the Taran Tactical stuff and it would probably work the same. Their safety is a nice change on my M2.
  13. I'm shooting more matches than I should this year, in the hopes of picking a certain number of matches for next season while going to matches I really enjoy. I'm in Kansas City and DRIVE to everything, so distance becomes a deciding factor, along with being self employed and how much time I must take off work to attend a match. Ideally for me, the matches would be evenly spaced out to minimize that financial burden at any given time since I don't have paid vacation days or anything like that. Living in Kansas City, I will obviously be at any match Ken Flood puts on, so the Midwest 3 Gun and US Amateur 3-gun matches are in. I loved the Fallen Brethren 3-Gun match in Texas last year, and unless something drastic changes with this year's match, I consider it a must. The Pro-Am this year was awesome and I will be hovering over 2 computers, an ipad, a macbook, and my iphone all at the same time again trying desperately to get in. Novekse's USPSA multigun in April was great, but with law changes, possible changes to the time of year and location....it's a match I would like to go to again, doesn't cost a lot to shoot, and could easily be added to the 2014 agenda without a divorce or bankruptcy occurring. So: -Midwest 3 Gun -US Amateur 3-Gun -Fallen Brethren 3-Gun -Pro-Am This fall, I still have Fallen Brethren, Blue Ridge, and the 3GN International matches left to shoot. I plan to pick either Blue Ridge or 3GN International as a fifth match to finish next year out. I'm intending to shoot more local matches, more USPSA matches, and the Gateway points series again next year.
  14. Ya.........but do we get to shoot the stubby machine gun and awesome piece of 300 win mag sniper rifle??? That rifle was nice! I was saddened when they informed me that they were not for civilian sales. :-(
  15. 26" matches up almost perfectly with my 10rd XRail tube, don't see any major reason to go any shorter since the tiny bit of extra weight is negligible when considering loading 12ga into the tube below it and it's still lighter than my rifle. Unless you are going with a shorter tube, I see no reason to say length is an issue since the mag tube would be sticking out anyways.
  16. Can't imagine it being much heavier than my home build with stainless barrel, billet receivers, vortex 1-6,..... Try a heavier stock on the rear to balance it out, or start some shoulder/arm exercises at the gym. My longest stage was around 40-60 seconds this weekend, and not much more at the Pro-Am.....I can't imagine it becoming the fatiguing factor unless you are burning 2-3 mags per stage, in which case I well recommend learning breath control and trigger control to make your shots count more. Seriously not trying to be mean or a smart ass....well, maybe a little bit of a smart ass....but, if I can shoot a major match with my .308 LaRue rifle I don't expect many .223 rifles to be of concern.
  17. I use 69gr SMK handloads at right over 2700fps. The lines do not line up "perfectly" with the expected 300, 400,....yard increments, but are damned close according to todays weather conditions via iStrelok. Mine line up at 200 yd zero, 300yds for the first line, 393yds for the second line, and 487yds for the third line. Close enough for 4moa targets IMO.
  18. Fun match as usual.....wish I could make it to the October and November matches.
  19. You deserved it!!!!! Quit wearing those tight shirts! I didn't even get a phone call the next morning and had to force a hug! hahaha
  20. I'll have to try that. I've found that my fastest way on and off the ramp was having my left leg tucked under where I can use it to push myself up at the same time as my left arm. I'm right handed with right knee issues, so that may be why.
  21. Email I received mid-week last week said a check would be mailed within a week. We are still within the time frame of when it would be mailed, and the post office was closed for Labor Day yesterday. Not jumping to any conclusions for now.
  22. Loganbill.....see ya at the Gateway match.
  23. Personally, I can't see much more than 6x being of advantage for 3-gun distances. I shot the MW3G with a 3.5-21x50 Bushnell HDMR on my .308, with Deuck Defense offset irons for the close stuff. I shot everything at about 3.5-6x. I did this to shoot HTO and didn't want to pull the scope and possibly have to rezero my gun....a LOT has changed since then! Beyond 6x, I couldn't see the next target over in the scope's 50mm "window" and had to go searching for it. 6x and below, the target was plenty big and I could see my next target to transition to. I have wondered if a fixed 4x-6x scope with offset red dot wouldn't be almost ideal for open class. You don't ever have to adjust it or touch it, there's less weight/mass/moving parts, and it's always the same view. I would think the 2-7x range of variable scopes would be plenty powerful enough, and have an idea how to make a BDC reticle faster to use for your handloads. Mr. Loganbill....next match you see me at, come by and I'll show you my 1-6 Vortex to see if the max magnification would be enough for you, and the idea I'm using and trying to peddle for someone to make.
