  1. At our local club matches you can shoot about anything you want if you do not care about divisions, you'll be lumped into one and everyone receives a score based upon division AND overall so you can see how you did against the other divisions. If you don't care about divisions you probably aren't trying to compete for higher spots at bigger matches, so why changes rules based upon the lowest common denominator? Adding a division or classification at your local club levels to adjust to the shooters who are showing up is a great idea. I especially like the idea of an officers division where they have to shoot whatever guns their department allows them to use. I'd leave the rules alone for Limited/TacIron, just like I would leave the current rules alone for Heavy Tactical. While I agree with the purist's intents and reasons...all it would serve to do is effectively kill participation at big matches. I own iron sighted rifles, aimpoints, a vortex 1-6,...and rifles in .223 and .308. I can pick and choose to shoot whatever division I want except for Heavy Irons since I do not have a single stack .45 or pump shotgun. This year I am planning to shoot as much TI/Limited and Heavy Tactical as possible, and may even shoot the ProAm with my T1 depending on how well I am shooting it compared to how well I think I would do with the Vortex 1-6. Change the rules where I have to use different mags, a different shotgun,...or in the case of Heavy, buy a ..40-45 and you have effectively removed my interest in those divisions. Those out-lying divisions outside of Open and TacOps already see a low number of participants as-is....and like KurtM said, allowing 1x optics in Limited/TacIron has rejuvenated the division for the most part.
  2. I said the exact same thing over and over and have been running a Glock for the two years I've been in 3-gun, see my profile pic for the Zev custom Glock I'm running now. To get better at the pistol portion of my game, my weakest link right now, I've been shooting a lot of USPSA in the 3-gun offseason. Since December, I've taken 1st place in limited (scoring as minor) and 3rd overall behind two open shooters that are M and GM at both bigger club matches. At local practice matches I'm usually 1st to 3rd behind one M level open shooter and occasionally a guy in limited with a 2011. When I watch the limited shooter that beats me, the one BIG thing that stands out is how his .40 Edge with MAJOR PF loads and very similar grip to mine barely twitches compared to the amount my custom Glock with MINOR PF handloads. I finally got a chance to get my mitts on a CZ-75 (9mm) and a 2011 (.40) to compare the feel, the recoil characteristics, the trigger.... I do not think that having a 2011 will make someone beat a better shooter who has a Glock/xD/M&P.....but I do now believe that if you have two guys who are at the same skill level, practice level, and stage planning level....and you give one a 2011 and a little practice, he will come out ahead the majority of the time then. I've placed my order with Aaron Hayes for a custom 2011, got the holster and mag holders in from Jeremy at TheShootersSource (a huge help BTW), and will have extra TTI tuned mags inbound before long. I felt confident enough that there was a sizable enough advantage in making the change that I will easily have $4000+ wrapped up in everything before I ever pull the trigger on my own 2011. Until it arrives, I'm going to still be rocking the Zev Glock as best I can......but once it does, I'm afraid my expensive Zev custom Glock may collect dust in the safe!
  3. I havent had an issue burning my hand with either strong hand or weak hand quadloading. I may be a little more flexible and strong with my hands than some, as a Chiropractor I'm using them all day and can usually hold my own with farmers and mechanics when it comes to grip. With about everything else I've done that was like a sport....flexibility, stretching, and correct positioning seem to alleviate those issues.
  4. Octagon shaped keymod handguard in top right of that pic
  5. I missed last year but in years past all the long stuff was 10" MGM flashers. Very doable with a 1X optic. I'm thinking I might shoot Amatuer this year since it's only two days instead of three. Leaves Sunday wide open for a recovery day. Recovery? How much you plan on drinking?
  6. CMMG's range is where the Midwest 3-Gun and US Amateur 3-Gun Championship are held, as well as monthly matches.
  7. I bit and ordered a 2011. The trigger was PART of the equation, but the recoil "feel" was just as big a part for me. After shooting a 2011, it felt like the gun with factory ammo didn't hardly flinch compared to my Zev 17L with my minor PF handloads. I plan to keep both, but see the 2011 as a way I can be a little more accurate and a little faster.
  8. but......where do I send my check?? I will send a blank check and pay whatever amount they write down.
  9. I'm in Kansas City, MO and drive 8-9 hours for the Pro-Am, Fallen Brethren, Blue Ridge, and now further for STI Texas MG....not to mention 2-4 hours for club matches each month! If you could build it, set the date where match conflicts are minimal, and have it within the upper midwest......count me in!
  10. I use tekloks. Not super fast low ELS, but I've never had to sprint to the next stage and Chinese fire drill my belt around to load it up and immediately shoot either.
  11. Another thing with the Rio's......buckshot and slug loads are noticeably longer. Haven't noticed it with birdshot tho. That may be what was discussed above. I have almost an entire case of low recoil buck I keep on reserve but it didn't feel right in my Taccom Qualoads.
  12. I buy case qty Winchester AA's and was buying case qty Federal Premium from Rogers Sporting Goods near Kansas City. When Winchester did their case promo I bought like crazy and had max rebates coming thru me, my wife, my office, a parent,.....each rebate was $100 for 5 cases.
  13. Seems to me that you would be best off trying to learn to load as many ways as possible. I've practiced quad loading weak hand, quad loading strong hand, and traditional weak hand loading. I have a chest rig for quad loading primarily strong hand and haven't had any issues with shells coming loose when prone, but loading prone would be a pain strong hand and I would probably try to load weak hand quads, deuces, or traditional weakhand if loading prone. I keep a single 4 shell Weakhand caddie on my belt at all times for specialty shells of where I need 1-2 extra shells in a stage plan. When I need an array or 3-8 slugs and/or buck, I tend to keep shell types separate by body level with birdshot on my chest rig and slugs/buck on Taccom Qualoads and quick caddies on my belt. Just my school of thought, in general.....don't close the door on something new, and don't refuse to have a tool in your toolbox, someday you may need it.
  14. Used mine in several matches without any issues at all. If say fluke, but if you have two of the 40rd PMAGs I would pull the springs and followers and see if there is any difference, just in case. Leaving the springs compressed for a long period of time?
  15. LChico.....you're awesome. 15th, 17th,.....set the date and I'll be hovering over a PC and iPhone with my left hand.... MacBook and iPad with my right hand.....and a Galaxy tablet with one of my toes, again!
  16. I'm within driving distance of Sierra's outlet store, so I run all 69gr SMK pills. Even if I had wanted 55gr FMJ at the time, it was consistently out of stock there. 69gr blems have worked perfect out to 500 and hit my practice steel at 600 without issue.
  17. I'm running a 26" M2 with 10rd RCI XRail tube. I have an extension to take it to 12-13rds but never use it. I quad load strong hand and don't see the technique as technical at all, in front it's gross motor movements that are fast (3 seconds for 8rds). I set my stage plan to allow myself 1-2 misses at most, and to reload and shoot as much as possible while moving. I've played a little with the Keith Garcia Load-12 drill and will try to get a video or two tomorrow. Dismounting the shotgun from my shoulder 3 times, I've had consistent runs in the low 9 sec range and a few fast/sketchy runs in the 8's. If dismounting was that much of an issue, I would definitely worry about it, but strong hand I do not see it that way.
  18. I was having the same issue yesterday when trying to register. I used a different email address to register with and everything went through fine. Not sure why, but the primary email address I use that I was going to register with awhile back was not allowing me to do so. I left the username and password, and everything else, the same and only changed the email address and things went through fine. Registered in Heavy Tactical......................................now to figure out what ammo I'm going to shoot out of my OBR! 168gr ammo it's currently sighted with, load up some 150's, 155's, or this big bucket of Sierra 175gr SMK blems I've been sitting on. Time to watch some match video!!
  19. I shot a few of the Gateway 3-Gun matches last year, including the finale.....Aaron for AP was there for all of them but never once brought those "RO's" out to the range!
  20. Form 5320.20 isnt required for cans like it is for SBR's, machine guns, SBS,...but I have heard of people requesting one just in case you run across un-informed police officers. I always carry photocopies of my approved Form 4's as well, and have shown them to police officers at big shoots to explain the process and educate those who have questions, I consider it cheap insurance. I've shot a match or two with an M4-2000 on my rifle and the RO had issues getting shots to register on the timer. When a buddy shot a few shooters after me, local match, we had to use the camera footage of him shooting to determine his stage time because the timer stopped registering when he started firing his rifle. I have several rifle, a couple pistol, and a few rimfire cans....I love them, but in order for it to work, I think you would have to use a less effective can to ensure the shot timer could pick up shots. With a less effective can you still need ear protection, so my favorite advantage of shooting with a can is lost. I love the idea of a 2 gun match with suppressed rifle and pistol....but the only way I'd consider it viable and consistent would be to remove the shot timer from the equation somehow, especially with my pistol cans and subsonic ammo. Maybe more targets than you could possibly shoot in a time period, then score how many were "down" and access penalties for hits outside an A zone within that allowed set of time? At the same match, I think a suppressed rimfire 2-gun side match or stage would be awesome. My 4.5" .22 AR with AAC Element and S&W M&P22 with SilencerCo SS Sparrow would make a great/fun combo and they run like a top.
  21. I loved this match last year. Wondering if I can somehow swing the Pro-Am the week before, and this match the week after.
