  1. Speaking of fit.... My M2 has felt like home for awhile, and has the taller comb piece on the stock. I figured it would be a good idea to snag the same thing for the SuperVinci. Haven't had a chance to get out and shoot it yet, but shouldering it and snapping it to a target on the wall I can already tell it feels better for me. Before I would see the back of the vent rib and have to angle up, now when I snap the gun up I'm already peering down the rib at the TriComp sight. There's something to that "fit" thing I think.
  2. 18" TacOps rifle for 2013 was in the 11-12lb range with vortex 1-6 in Larue lt-104 mount. 16" TacIrons/TacOps rifle for 2014 I under 6lbs with Aimpoint T1 and I haven't tried to figure out what the weight change will be from T1 to Vortex 1-6. I went with a heavier 18" gun this year because it's what everyone recommended. I've lost around 20fps dropping 2" and 5lbs off the rifle, but my arms aren't real long and the 16" seems to fit me well. I shot the 16" at a single Gateway 3-gun match in TacIrons and was still able to beat out open and TacOps shooters just fine.
  3. I'd be interested in finding out if your adjustable gas block wasn't adjusting like you thought. I had the same issue with a .308 rifle that had a PRI adjustable gas block, upon having it checked out at GA Precision, it was discovered that there was a blockage. Once the gas block was cleaned up, the rifle was perfectly tuned in 20 minutes. I've had the ULW buffer system for a couple weeks or more and have around 450-500 rounds thru the gun with it. I removed the JP Silent Captured system when I out it in. Current gun is fairly light...under 6lbs with T1 and no mag, and running a Rubber City lightweight carrier. Adjustment was 3/4 turn less gas with Syrac block to lock back reliably on the mag compared to the JP system, but I had to open it back 1/4 turn when the temp dropped below 20 degrees and would cycle but not lock back. Recoil feels lighter and I don't notice much of any difference at 15 yards for a V-Drill, but begin to notice it a lot more for shots at 25-30 yards on 1/2 IPSC paper, and much more on steel and paper at 50-100yards. So far I'm impressed with the buffer system and plan to run it all next year.
  4. hahahahaa I've never been a watcher, but I do like good beer. If there are spots still available in a week or two, I may jump on one. I can only attend so many matches next year, so trying to decide which ones.
  5. ssssssssshhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, they were trying to sneak you in! You know, local guys get preference and such. I think I'll sit this one out and see if spots are still available later. Not mad or anything, but the new shiny allure wore off, and......SQUIRREL!
  6. Thought about something on my way home today about weak vs strong hand quad loading....or dual loading lot that matter. Something you may want to consider is how you would maneuver or move from position to position while loading. When weak hand quad loading, I've found holding the gun at roughly 90 degrees to my body is where I load the best. If the gun is pointing out from my body like that, I am somewhat limited in tighter spaces on some stages. With strong hand loading, I tend to have the gun at a 20-60 degree downward angle from my body, allowing me to fold the gun in towards my body if I am walking or running around an angle while loading, or maneuvering near a close wall or barricade. Where I've noticed this most, was when using a hallway in my office for loading practice, pretending to shoot 3-4 targets in each doorway, then loading as I move from doorway to doorway. Weakhand I tend to hit the barrel or tube against the doorframe, strong hand I am able to move thru easier.
  7. Any time.....I've ordered several things from there lately.
  8. My TI/Limited 16" midlength is a lightweight profile barrel with adjustable gas, comp, and Taccom ULW buffer. My TO/Tactical 18" rifle gas is Rainier's "SPR" ultramatch barrel with the same adjustable gas block, a comp, and it has the JP silent captured system. Both has lightweight carriers. 16" gun is just under 6lbs with T1, 16.4" Lancer octagon shaped handguard, and no mag, feels flickable, fast to move with, and loses about 20fps from my 18" barrel. Granted it is a barrel with 400-500 rds thru it compared to my 18" that has 5-7000 this year, so maybe the 18" has lost a step, or maybe the 16" is just a little tight. Recoil impulse with the ULW system feels light and my splits run in the .12-15 range on close paper when I do my part (15 yards). 18" gun is around 10-12lbs with Vortex 1-6 and no mag, feels heavy but solid, slower onto the next target but doesn't budge when fired on that target twice. Only 20fps faster than my 16" barrel. Recoil impulse with the rifle length gas system is light, as expected, and when I finish rebuilding the upper (tore it down to use it's handguard for the 16") I'm wondering if it will recoil as light or lighter than the 16" when using the same ULW buffer system. Splits run in the same range at 15 yards. "Long range" targets, its a wash with the 400 yards I've shot both at so far. I notice no benefit from added weight when shooting prone or shooting rested off of something since both guns shoot flat and sit still and are resting on another surface. I have used fencing, fence posts, T-posts, and my ramp prop to try both. I DO hook the mag over the front of the ramp when shooting off of it and can shoot just about the same regardless of what gun I grab since the gun locks into place. side note....my 16" LaRue OBR in 5.56 is about 80fps slower than my 18" gun and has around 7000 rds thru it from the 2012 3-gun season.
  9. Interesting.....I blamed my SD3G trigger for doubling in my match rifle with JP lo mass carrier and JP bolt completion kit when shooting prone and switched to an AR Gold trigger. It hasn't happened since, but I hadn't shot that gun prone in some time either. I never considered the firing pin. I may have to pick up a couple Ti firing pins and see if I can recreate that issue with that trigger group again, or if it solves it. While I like the AR Gold trigger, I felt like I shot paper faster with the Geiselle (I sometimes do not let the trigger out with the AR Gold for the second shot, just like when trying to shoot someone's 2011) and lost little to nothing on the long range targets.
  10. Shoot your shotgun more often....the weight and balance of my M2 changes and I can usually FEEL if I have less than 2-3 shells in the gun. No window required. Stage planning works well too, plan where to reload and maybe give yourself a miss or two in that stage plan if you tube is long enough to stand you possibly loading more than you may need by a shell or two.

  12. I've shot my M2, my SuperVinci, my JM930, and a few Versamax shotguns. There is a noticeable difference in fit and recoil IMO in shooting all of them, I'm the most sure shot with my M2 and have a hard time making myself miss with it lately, although the recoil is a little stiffer and I tend to have larger splits with having to get back on target. Loading, I am the most comfortable with my M2. I sold the JM930 due to reliability issues, but it was a good first 3-Gun shotgun for me. I had to do what Brian Payne is talking about....aiming every shot instead of instinct shooting and knowing I would hit. The loading port was nice and wide and shallow, so loading was fairly easy. The trigger felt horrible and recoil was maybe slightly less than my M2 to my shoulder. I've shot 3-4 Versamax's and while I thought I would like the forend better, I don't. The recoil was the SOFTEST I've ever shot with a 12ga. My splits were noticeably faster than with my M2, and overall times at XRail side matches were about .25-.35 seconds faster when shooting in 3.85-4.5 second runs. Same problem with having to aim, so I tended to miss much more, typically leaving 1 popper standing each time. My SuperVinci....a slightly different animal from the Vinci with a little more weight, 3.5" chamber and loading port, is now set up with an XRail mag tube module. Recoil is noticeably softer than my M2, but does not feel as soft as the Versamax. Recoil is "different" in how it feels, which I assume is due to it being the only truly in line Inertia driven shotgun line. I made sure the put the same HiViz Tricomp sight on the barrel, and it has the same 26" length barrel as my M2, but is a good chunk heavier due to the weight of the module style mag tube. The fit isn't quite perfect for me yet, so I am going to play with the parts Benelli includes and see if I can't exactly match my M2's angle and height on the stock. The foreand fits my hand nicely. The loading port is a little deeper than I like, but nice and wide with a ton of material thickness to allow room to open it up. I thought the lifter would be better about biting my thumb than the stock lifter on my M2 was, and I was wrong, so it's with C-Rums right now. I also bought the exact same brand and constriction chokes for this shotgun as I used for my M2 I took both my M2 and SuperVinci to my range and set up an array of 9 targets, 5 being 4" wide x 8" tall AR500 knockdown plates, and 2 being fullsized MGM poppers with clay flippers on them. When shooting them in comparison the SuperVinci knocked me off the target less and my overall times were .5-1 second lower, which I attributed to being able to snag another knockdown plate while waiting for the popper to fall. The only problem I noticed was the tendency to push down past a target and either hitting low right or missing the target. I think this is likely due to being used to the M2's stiffer recoil and how I am used to recovering from it. I'm not bumping my M2 to a backup just yet, but the Vinci line isn't just a fad unless they prove to become unreliable with high round counts.
  13. I've got to agree with Jesse. I do not appreciate any system that gives preference to any particular person, with the rare exception of a sponsor spot being a drawing factor to bring sponsors to the match. IMO, that was a pre-purchased spot that was made part of a deal where the company is giving far more than the $250-300 for the spot. I was all for online registration and after the Turkey Day Disaster of 2013, I'm not so sure. I've got to agree that the stamped date on the envelope of your entree showing it was mailed on day one should allow you into Pot 1, if there are more people in Pot 1 than the match allows you random draw from there. If there are more spots than what is in Pot 1, move to the next stamped date in Pot 2, then Pot 3. If the match makes it into the 2nd or 3rd pot and someone sent an entree in 2 weeks late, they have very little to complain about. If you were somehow capable of tying up a range for 2-3 weekends in a row, and maintain the same RO's for the stages, I think you could easily have a major match with 3-4 times the competitors when running half day formats. Weather can be an issue from stage to stage, so weather being a difference from weekend to weekend is only a minor concern in my opinion. The prize table would have to be lined out with prizes set based upon placement ahead of time, because most would not travel 2-3 weekends in a row to come back for a prize table alone. ETA: I'm a CONSUMER shooter. I may have a couple sponsors for next year, but none that pay match entree fees or get me into matches, and I paid my own way on everything up to this point.
  14. I saw these in Aaron's shop and asked about them. Not sure if it was specifically ordered and made for Shooters Source, but I liked the idea for 18" LW barrels to try to make sure the barrel had less chance to contact anything on a barricade.
  15. SWEET!!! Now I need to upgrade my membership to compete. This makes it a hell of a lot more fun for those of us looking to break in to the pros. Very cool, well done. Now I can remove all my virus software from Daniel and Keith's computers 3GN is listening to the shooting community. We are all in this together trying to further our sport. If ANY of you have questions, concerns, comments, constructive criticism please feel free to contact either myself or Charles Sole. Contact information is listed belowTennille@3Gunnation.com 208-447-6553 Charles@3Gunnation.com 919-201-7990 Gotta tell ya.....that change is the biggest change in "fairness" I've seen so far! I personally want to shoot with and against the pros and would not want them removed from the match. I learn more by seeing better shooters who are running the same stage I am. I think the change of excluding the pro scores when considering semipro scores for the points series is a good move. As for assuring that the semi-pros get a spot....again, all I have to do is pay $25 to get preference, so it's wrong!
  16. The assumption is for ANYONE who is pointing out who should get preferential treatment. Regardless of intentions, it will be perceived that way! IMO.....no one person deserves preferential treatment in any way, ever, if you want fairness and an equal opportunity at getting new shooters into the sport and into the matches. Sponsor spots are a perk of a company sponsoring matches with money and prizes, those are purchased spots and not what I would consider preferential treatment.
  17. Your EXACT quote: "Since the Semi-Pros have ponied up the extra $25 and can only get points in these matches it only makes sense they get first crack." I ponied up the extra $25 in 2013 and am one of the 119 people who made up the semi pro points series in 2013. I did NOT pay the extra $25 this year as I don't have the interest, but HAD to pay $25 I originally did not intend to spend just to have a chance at registering for a match. If it meant I was guaranteed a match spot, spending another $25 is a no brainer because I can always refuse to attend the qualifier down the road if I scored high enough! Point is, what you suggest is giving preference to anyone who wants to spend an extra $25.......or give preference to anyone who spent that $25 for the 2013. Edited for politeness.
  18. Or lets say the big guns show at half and not at the other half. Scores can swing quite a ways that way. That has been looked at before...the swing can be significant. Aside from keeping the "Pro" shooters out, there is no way to keep that from happening. There are top level shooters who want nothing to do with the 3GunNation pro series and could easily show up to half of those matches to cause the exact same issue. I'm afraid it is an issue that isn't easily resolved. Only way I could see around this would be to score the semipro points based upon the non-pro series shooters. Essentially, if the top points earned for semipro scores 88% of Daniel Horner's time.....his score would be 100pts and the other points earners scores would be based upon his time. IMO, that's the only way to score the semi pro points series fairly across the board. I remember backing out of the 3GN International match thinking someone would pick up major points since it was a smaller match, less people, and not likely to have pros. Horner came to the match and proved me wrong! Midwest3Gun had a couple guys pick up major points, and I think that Ozarks would have likely been the same IMO.
  19. Two day AND half day format???? I'm a lil more stoked about this match now. I'd like to go ahead and request AM time slots to ensure alcohol consumption isn't reduced.
  20. Sorry.....but ANYONE who says "these people should get preference" or "the people who want to shoot all of them should get spots first" sound like their version of "fair" is to include themselves and let everyone else fight over the scraps. You want it truly fair, do it how they intended to do it in the first place....just competently! No one person or group of people gets preferential treatment, no one willing to commit to giving more money gets a spot first, and no group of people who paid into the semipro series last year gets first dibs! 1: I am one of the 119 semi pros from last year. I had to pay $50 to be one, I didn't have to shoot a qualifier match to be considered a semipro. I do NOT think I should be given preferential treatment when signing up for a match. 2: I have the financial means to shoot every 3GunNation and non 3GunNation match that I want to shoot. Just because I can afford to financially does not mean I can afford to in time and missed time with my kids. Just because I can afford it and skip out on the match does NOT mean I should be given preferential treatment. 3: The holiday debacle was arrogance. Not so much that it was arrogant people, but an arrogant idea of showing families how dedicated shooters are to 3-Gun and, in part 3GunNation, by pulling them away from their families on a holiday. It was a dumb idea and SOMEONE in the chain of command had to of said so at some time in that thought process! Our families see us practice shotgun reloads, pistol reloads, dry fire, look at range footage, post to YouTube channels, and bring up every detail that our families could care less about....:taking time away from a holiday to show family members how committed shooters are...please! 4: Taking spots away from shooters who did manage to get in thru a failed system obviously sucks for us shooters! I do get it tho. By some stroke of luck we slipped thru the barbed wire gauntlet of "fail" to find success where others got "white screens of death" 5: Forcing people to pay $25 to be a member in order to have a CHANCE at getting a spot seems ill advised. If any individual match charged $25 to log into a website for a shot at their match, the shooters would be throwing a bigger fit than they are here. I'm not going to ask for my $25 back for two reasons, 1. I've spent more than that for a magazine subscription before, 2. It's not worth the headache! I do not fault anyone who would want their money back and to cut ties after a bad experience....it's customer service IMO. I haven't made my mind up if I will try to enter again when the new dates are announced. I planned to shoot TO because the prize table is usually better than TI or HMO, but not caring much about if I made the top 25 semipro. My biggest motivation for shooting the Midwest Regional over the ProAm was that I only had to take a single day off work for a comparable match, but if it's going to be this big of a headache, an extra day off work isnt that big of a deal!
  21. Not fair at all. Unless there is more than one e-mail floating around that indicates yesterday did not count, maybe it has not been decided. I've received nothing that indicates those that managed to get signed would get their slots revoked. Bill Post your email address and I'll forward it to you
  22. Well, it will be less fair for you, but more fair for someone else! Makes sense, right?
  23. Let me guess.....you live close to a match?!? You talk about it being fair to unregistered those who got thru and tell everyone to get over it, then propose to give preferential treatment to those who DONT have to travel far to get to a regional match. Let me guess....you believe in capitalism, enjoy the healthcare coverage you have, and love the second amendment.....but you can't understand why your friends are mad that you voted for Obama!
  24. After all the time talking things over with my wife about the benefits of shooting a two day match at Rockcastle vs a three day match at Rockcastle the following weekend, spending a ton of time away from the family to get registered on a holiday,........now my registration is cancelled with a "sorry" and "try again when we figure out how to do this". Now the arguing starts as to whether to mess with this again or to tell 3GN to pound sand and give my $25 membership fee back like my wife is saying. What a mess! Regardless if who is at fault behind the website issues, this is a big black eye for 3GN in my mind.
